I keep saying to my husband, we must visit Malta again.
I used to love using the buses to Valetta & how they were decorated, most people crossed themselves when boarding.

Urmstongran, Guten Abend, ich danke Ihnen für Ihre guten Wünsche.
Einige von ihnen können Deutsch und brauchen kein Google
wink

However, I think MawB is hiding her light under a bushel and is probably more fluent than any of us! grin

I wish we had Google translate when I was studying. It would have made life so much less stressful! ?

GabriellaG54, yes, it does seem archaic, but you have to realise that the majority of Maltese are Catholics and for many, many years the Church and State went hand in hand.
There was a huge stigma regarding divorce, out of wedlock pregnancy, homosexuality etc.

My DH was divorced ( his first wife was English so they were able to divorce in the UK, which was recognised in Malta), and I felt very uneasy about mentioning it and was afraid my children would be discriminated against. Thankfully, times have changed and the Church no longer wields power over the country.

You will still find some older people who are judgmental, but they were indoctrinated with their beliefs so it can be difficult to change the habits of a lifetime. In general, this country has moved with the times and people are much more tolerant of diversity.

Technology eh?!
?

I once dated a Met officer who is Maltese. He was really embarrassed to admit he was divorced, said it was a slight or stain on his character in his birth country.
I found that odd as he's only 42 and this conversation was in 2012.
I think that a country would have more open views in this day and age.
I do know that Malta elected to allow divorce in 2011, however, it seems that ruling doesn't sit well with everyone.

Bellasnana Thu 29-Aug-19 13:49:08

Hi Tricia, if you ever revisit Malta do let me know. It would be lovely to meet you, although if you haven’t been over here for a while I think you would have a shock. A lot of changes and not all for the better.

Sehr gut, Maw, all German nouns have a capital letter. As I remember from A Level German that I remember very little of. Those dratted cases, declensions and conjugations, not to mention word order in sentences.....all very strict and ordered.

Thank you to everyone for the good wishes for the Dentist this afternoon; sitting here nervously waiting...

And I have phoned and left a message for Tools for Self Reliance to see if anything will be of use to them, but had to leave a message on the answerphone. DS took quite a bit of stuff this morning.

Further to yesterday's morning chat where I mentioned magazine subscriptions, an hour ago I received a Royal Mail parcel containing the GH apron which was the freebie sent separately from the mag which is delivered next month.
I would have expected that a typically British magazinecwould have an apron made here. Apparently not.

Good morning Bellasnana, oh! I have some very very happy memories of Malta, from holidays many years ago, we stayed in Burgiabuggia in the south of the island. Sorry about the spelling it was such a lovely little spot where most Maltese came at weekends, lovely family run restaurant.
I always mean to go back.
It's a betwixed & between kind of day today here in Nairn.
Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning everyone, lovely Paul the Gardening Postie has just arrived to do my heavy pruning on a lovely blue sky morning. Off to the Oxford Playhouse later to see Nigel Slater's 'Toast' - someone tells me they hand out cookies to the front rows. In Row C, so hopeful. Wishing everyone some moments of joy today xx

MawB Thu 29-Aug-19 10:10:32

It is (done in other languages, namely German where nouns have a capital letter)

WOODMOUSE49 Thu 29-Aug-19 10:01:51

Good Morning everyone.

Been with GN a few months now. First time looking at the Good Morning threads. I love them. They've perked me up.

Shouldn't have read the latest thread on news/politics. I promised myself I wouldn't make any more comments myself (but I did this morning). Fed up with the nastiness and constant questioning from some.

But I'm calm now. Sunny here in mid Cornwall. Rain last night. The grass needs cutting again. We're getting a good mix of sun and rain so everything is shooting up.

Trying to exchange contracts on step mother in law's house. Solicitors Grrrr! Now waiting for a call back. Solicitor has been on holiday for 2 weeks. She was back on Tuesday but on leave today! Exchange date was hoped to be tomorrow. Not a chance ! Good luck with your sale Nannytopsy

Electrician here to finish off 2nd fix in our new home. Lovely man. Really knows his job.

Hope all goes well to those at the dentist today flowers

GabriellaG54 Thu 29-Aug-19 09:59:10

Yes...it's morgen not morgan. My fault. ?
I've no idea why the greeting, when keyed in, appears with capital letters as I would only capitalise the first letter when beginning a sentence.
Maybe it's different in other languages...confused

Good morning Michael, Annie and all.
I seem to arrive here later each day, (lazy bones).
Coffee and lunch with my friend yesterday was lovely and we talked for four hours, until she went home.
I then went out and got some little wooden figures for the dolls house I bought recently. It is supposed to be for our great grand children, but as I can't decide who shall have it, it may have to stay here, and be mine ?
My GGS, is in love with Peppa pig, and I found two in charity shops, so this morning the bigger one is hanging outside in the sun, after a wash, to thoroughly dry.
This afternoon, my neighbour is coming for a crochet lesson, so I hope I don't bewilder her.
Have a good day one and all.

Mapleleaf Thu 29-Aug-19 09:48:39

Good morning everyone,
It’s a Bonny day, as my MiL would say, with sunshine and blue sky with a few white clouds. It feels a touch cooler than of late, but not been out yet to check, but will be shortly to see a friend.
All the best to those of you going to the dentist or doctor today.

Legs55 Thu 29-Aug-19 09:40:54

Good morning from sunny Devon, should stay fine but may cloud later. Hope it stays nice as I need to spend a day in the garden.

Wishing every-one a pleasant day

vena11 Thu 29-Aug-19 09:33:20

Morning from a much cooler Bristol but it is still pleasant .

Just food shopping for me today and a bit of house work.

Going to Birmingham tomorrow to baby sit for my daughter, always a pleasure. Her DH is working away at the moment so we try to help out where we can. Not easy for her with a baby and working .

Have a lovely day all.

MawB Thu 29-Aug-19 09:20:35

Guten Morgen meine Damen GabriellaG ??

Nannytopsy Thu 29-Aug-19 09:13:41

Good morning everyone! Hello Kitty & NanKate.
A very late start after a broken night - surely we will exchange today? Our buyer came yesterday which caused a panic in case she was going to drop out but she seemed keen still.
Lovely morning here now after lots of rain yesterday evening, with a refreshing coolness.
Happy days everyone and good luck with dentists!

Marydoll Thu 29-Aug-19 09:13:32

Urmstongran Thu 29-Aug-19 09:10:23
