Home for Christmas, a whinge.

I keep being asked if I am returning to Scotland for Christmas. Considering I have had no living relatives there since 1979, I doubt it very much. Strangely when I was married, my home was here.

What we get is "Are you having the family home for Christmas?" when all the DC are aged over 35, have homes and families of their own and live 100-200 miles away! We've been to them more often than they've been to us since they left home.

It happens here too. One of my neighbours parents were Sri Lankan. She was born here. Her parents are dead. She is often asked “ where are you from originally?”. When she says “ Here” or “South London”, people are often a bit puzzled.

I am a long-term migrant in an EU country lived here for 24 years and family are also here. I am already being asked if I am 'going home' for Christmas.
When I point out that I am at home I get some very confused looks and then lots of frankly silly questions.
Asked in Church yesterday if I had booked flights, duh I live 5 minutes walk from the Church, as this person knows well. I pointed out that it would be a very short flight........
I had made it very clear that I would be staying at home but she kept on for about 5 minutes.
DD gets it too and she is married to a local man.
Just the start every year.
Thanks for listening, a 92 year old friend was also recently asked!!!!
