I had a phone call this morning from a very feasible sounding lady who told me that as I did not claim on my plumbing and drains policy last year I could have a renewed policy at half the price.
All well and good because I had just received a letter saying my policy was going to be renewed.
The problem started when I asked which company I was speaking to. When they told me it didn't ring a bell. She said she could send out the paper work when I had given her my debit card number. She already had the first four digits. I refused and said I would look at my letter and ring them back. I was given a number to ring and the policy number.
When I dug my paperwork out I found I was insured with a completely different company so I rang the number I was given on my mobile. The lady at the other end said I did not have a policy with her and the account number was not valid.
I was worried I had taken out two policies for the same thing but apparently not.
Fortunately I did not give my card number so no harm done but they were very convincing.
