This could be my last post as I might be arrested at any moment. I just received an automated call that said that there was a fraud investigation into me and if I didn’t press 1 to speak to an officer at HMRC a warrant would be issued for my arrest. I did not press 1.

I had a bunch of these calls yesterday - first time for me -hung up and blocked the numbers.

Yehbutnobut Thu 24-Oct-19 11:11:04

Feeling left out....not even the scammers want to call me ???

I often use theunknowncall.com to query for unreal calls. Every day comes hundreds of complaints comments. Examine if you want.
Thank you.

Just had a call from “HMRC” I am about to be carted off!!!!

harrigran Tue 17-Sep-19 12:39:37

Just had the " your bank account is showing unauthorised withdrawals" call. Buy Amazon gift cards to pay for admin to sort out your problem, I don't think so.
Time someone sorted out these thieving b******s, doesn't look as if BT give a stuff even though they are claiming to be BT as well.

I got an automated call yesterday from a well-spoken lady telling me that my internet had been hacked and to press 1 for more information. When I looked at my handset for the caller number it was coming from my own number!
I put the phone down.
Is there no end to the scammers 'talents'! hmm

The BT scam facility www.bt.com/help/home/scams/

12Michael Tue 17-Sep-19 09:31:23

if I get calls that are from phone numbers I do not recognise , I have an answer phone and most cases they do not leave a message but with BT I use there scam call facility and report the number they have dialled from

We've had to buy a call blocker especially produce for people with dementia as my mum is easily taken in with such scams and has handed over bank details etc!

Basic call blockers are no good as she cannot remember which buttons to press to accept or reject calls so now the only people who can speak to her are from numbers I have input into a trusted list. Everyone else gets a message from me telling them to call my mobile number if they want to speak to her - no one has ever done that!

I also scratched off the three security numbers from her bank card so it cannot be used over the phone and registered the LPA with her bank so I can check her accounts. I move surplus money from the current account into savings where it is harder to hack.

Now we need to take measures against people who know at her door to sell things or just to ask for money - how do such people know she is vulnerable? So having installed broadband, we about to have security cameras and a camera door bell fitted.

I just wish it was not necessary to have to do such things to protect my mum! She will still get begging letters from charities though but we can contact them provided we see the letters. Although she has now "lost her cheque book" ( it's at my house!) so she cannot send then cheques!

Such a pain!

We had the call at 10.30 and the number shown on the phone was the actual number of HMRC, DH told them to p*$$ off, cheeky bar stewards.

Doubtless this is just a filthy scam. The perpetrators know no shame and were born without anything resembling a conscience.

I've had the HMRC one. It was a woman's voice, British and rather grand.

MiniDriver56 Sun 15-Sep-19 19:23:09

I’ve had phone calls and emails, it is a scam HMRC do not contact anyone like this.

Jane10 Sun 15-Sep-19 19:12:44

Well apparently I've been video'd masturbating to online porn and if I don't pay up they'll send the video to all my contacts. Am I bothered? grin

We have been getting fake calls from BT lately, usually an Indian voice saying we are about to lose various parts of service. We've had around 2 a week for the last few weeks, phoned BT to report but calls still coming.

shirleyhick Sun 15-Sep-19 19:03:10

I have had this I also hung up I thought the same as you come ans arrest me.

yellowcanary Sun 15-Sep-19 18:52:44

I had a new one (to me anyway) a couple of days ago - an email came in from the bank saying my statement was ready on line - didn't think anything of it to start with, and I never click on the links from bank ones anyway - then realised two things - wrong date for statement (not that I think I have signed up for paperless statements) and wrong ending account number. So be careful of those as well everyone.

EmilyHarburn Sun 15-Sep-19 18:24:34

Its a scam. Enjoy your day.

grannybuy Sun 15-Sep-19 17:56:17

I had an email last week from someone who said that he had been able to see 'what I was doing' while watching downloaded porn, and that if I didn't follow the link to pay the money requested, he would send copies of said pictorial evidence to all my contacts. My first thought was to report it to the police, but when I googled this, it said that the police wouldn't be interested as the supposed video clip hadn't actually been sent, and I hadn't lost any money. I deleted the email. I have nothing to hide, but I'm aware that those with the know how would be able to impose a face from online photographs onto something unsavoury if they wanted to. Scary.

I always put on a frail old lady voice and say" I'll just go and get
Matron" They always ring off at that point.

Ladies it`s getting near Xmas, so stay alert!anything that sounds dodgy, spam & delete it. We have had four different messages from TV Licensing, saying we are unable to access money from your bank to pay your DD tv licence. Please call or e.mail your bank details! Pfffftt. No chance, each e.mail that came had a different tv lincence number. On a different note we kept getting a voice mail saying you have breached unlawful content on your computer! you have twenty four hours to pay the fine of £299 otherwise your computer will be disconnected.True to their word the computer just froze the next day! I knew it was a scam but I had no idea how to unlock computer. So I rang my No 1 son, only the house phone was nobbled as well,a message on answer said please please call this number to pay your £299 fine to resume use of your computer. Some how they had hacked into my computer & phone line.Luckily they did not have my mobile number,so rang no 1 son for advise,Don`t pay anything dad, turn computer of & unplug it,& do not try to use it for at least 24hrs. & the same for land line.I gave it a full day then tried the phone! it was back on.turned my laptop back on & it was back to normal Touch wood its been ok for a month now.

vena11 Sun 15-Sep-19 17:31:40

If I get calls like that I have started to say hold on, wait until I get my mother for you, my mother did that for years and now I do it . My mother passed away 4 years ago ,very wise lady .

Noreen3 Sun 15-Sep-19 16:33:09

I've had this a few times,I'm not in prison yet.I feel sorry for people who believe these calls and do press 1.I now don't answer anything on my mobile that's not in my contact list,we shouldn't have to do this, I could miss a genuine call
