Winter duvet.

My local cash and carry duvets are quite cheap so when winter one is not needed i get rid of it then buy summer one same every year saves having to store them plus can have dust mites which ain't nice

Unfortunately, the cost of washing and drying a large duvet at the launderette almost outweighs the cost of a new one.

I get a service wash for mine and choose a hot day, don’t bother with drying, then bring it home to hang on the line.

I don't do duvets. I have sheet, blanket and as patchwork quilts...number depends on time of year. Love them...so cosy. I live on s narrow boat...no central heating...just a multifuel burner in saloon.

We use the same 4 tog all year. It’s just my feet that get cold so I use Bedsocks. Perhaps as it’s nice today I might wash the quilt, it’s not something I usually ( if ever!) do. Thanks GN for the heads up.

I have a duvet that pops together. One for winter/summer tog they make a 13:5 which is cosy. But if it's a particularly cold night I put a fleece on top. As I'm still having the flushes(not night sweats fortunately) I find it's comfortable. I wash at the launderette once a year. I've only had it a couple of years but it works for me.

I am currently still on my summer 4.5 tog. This will be our first winter in our new Scottish home so will try the 9 tog in a few weeks and see how we go. Don’t anticipate needing more than that. Also have a 2.5 tog and a 1.5 tog for warmer summer nights. As they are all superking size and the biggest problem is storage, especially with guest beds too!

Caro57 earlier this year we rented an apartment in Spain for the winter off a Dutch couple. I was horrified to see the king size bed made up with 2 double duvets overlapping each other. I got tangled up but by the end of the holiday and a few chilly nights I began to see the reasons for having 2. I could wrap myself in one to prevent cold spots when he turns over in bed and he could throw his off as he is always hot. Snug as a bug in a rug!! I am thinking of going this way maybe!

We have a wool duvet. It doesn't have a tog rating as is supposed to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer .
It largely lives Up to it's claim except on the hottest nights.

Have moved to the autumn setting of duvet - have a 3in1 - and wash them at each season change. Am seriously thinking of getting single duvets as DH constantly cold and would prefer the winter tog all year (+blankets in winter!) while I would not - it might be the solution but will cause a ‘discussion’!

One duvet all year round - washed when it needs it, but buy a new one every couple of years.

I take my old ones to the animal shelter for use as bedding. (Animals not staff!).

I too found it cheaper to replace than clean. That is such a shame as putting them in landfil is so wasteful. I could not find a launderette anywhereand I think it may cost a lot to clean

I bought new lightweight 10.5 quilts a few weeks ago and threw the others in the tip - they were several years old - we have no launderette near us and the cost of new ones was cheaper than having them cleaned.

Still using my summer 4.5 at the moment. Need to take my winter 10.5 one to be washed, probably in the next couple of weeks, then will swap over some time in November. Feel the cold now I'm on my own! DH and I used a summer one all year round.

Our local dry cleaner washes them en site. The shop was full of clean ones this morning but he must use an awful lot of electric.

Still using just the duvet cover, I did put on a bedspread last week as a couple times I woke up in the early hours feeling a bit chilly but the last couple of nights have had to throw it off because it's too warm lol. My OH sleeps under his winter weight one all year, pulled right up around his ears!
No central heating here either, I don't like hot bedroom and my window is nearly always open to some extent.
Luckily my duvet fits in my washing machine, I usually give it two washes giving it a good shake and turn around between them.

No duvet for me either in the summer. A sheet and cotton bedspread are enough. We don't have central heating either but I like my bedroom cold. In the winter I have a 13 tog duvet but always have the window open.

Charliegirl same here, I only have one duvet. On hot nights it stays folded at the bottom of the bed

I didn't join up the two parts of my duvet at all last winter. I still have the 4 tog one on, but next time I wash the bedding, I'll take the opportunity to switch to 9.5 tog. As long as my feet are warm, I sleep well and for that I have a collection of bed socks.

My summer duvet 4 tog will probably stay on until the end of October then a 10tog goes on and half the winter I am outside of that . I think its my meds that make me so hot all the time.

I'm the same as you BlueBelle. Same heavy covers all year round only mine is a merino sheep wool blanket/throw which is dry-cleaned every year and on top of that is a feather quilt then a large padded throw over the lot. I'm no longer in my Victorian house but still feel the cold and I prefer weight instead of the lightness of just a duvet.

I get a far better quality of sleep using natural products which are warm and comforting.

I have my winter one on all year round, then in winter I add another on top ?
I have been known to sleep in a sleeping bag under two duvets in the very very cold winter nights but I do live in a big Victorian House with no central heating or any heating at all upstairs come to that so I ll stick to my cosy duvets

Most launderette's have large capacity washing machines for duvets. Our local charges about £8. I wash the winter one when the summer one goes on and vice versa. Still warm enough under summer one at the moment.

We have a petrol station with a drive thru laundry!
Huge machines and dryers, pay on a card so easy!

I have had my 15 tog duvet on all year. I threw it off when it was extra hot. My problem is washing mine- it is too large for my washing machine.
