Scarves, what is it about them..?

In the light of the many serious threads on GN at the moment, I thought I would post something light hearted and vacuus.

I decided to tidy out the hall cupboard today. In it was a huge curver box, overflowing with scarves of every colour, pattern, weight etc. I'm too embarrassed to say how many. blush
I even bought four in Rome last week, the fact that they were only 2 Euros each, may have influenced me. grin
They were a bargain, of surprisingly good quality, but I didn't really need them. Basically they seduced me with their vibrant colours! smile

Does anyone else share this obsession? I know Nan Kate does, as she has previously mentioned it!

I have many various scarves, also! I am a size 18, and I wear the lighter ones to draw attention to my face and collar bones. A few years ago I was working as an AA at the Oklahoma State Legislature where they always close the session with a giant barn picnic. Jeans are required and a hat so that one looks a bit country. I wore jeans with a white blouse, but I didn't have a belt. I got out my hat and found a cotton gauzy scarf to match and wore that as a belt. The event photographer loved it, so I'm in several of the photos.

So pleased it's not just me that has so many scarves. I have two scarf drawers and a large cardboard box. The latter holds the current ones (quite a lot), when I look in the drawers I find scarves I've forgotten all about. Recently I found some scarves stashed away in a storage bag - including a lovely one, quite expensive, bought from East many years ago. A couple of years ago I knitted a fine yarn cream stole and knitted glittery stripes with beads into it but I had no occasion to wear it when it was finished (took ages to knit). When I did want to wear it the moths had beaten me to it, too many holes to repair. sad

I have about 50 scarves and over 100 necklaces..I rarely wear a scarf though. I love to dress a room in scarves--most will cover a sideboard or table, tie around backs of chairs, etc.. I always buy them from charity shops with the intention of wearing but I always end up looking like a bag of shite no matter how I tie them..Look far nicer on a table LOL

I absolutely love a scarf. Chilly neck for some reason. And hides the crepiness. If that’s a word. Known to wear them on a hot day. Current fave is one from white stuff.

Jura, my response to your post at 16:18:31, was tongue in cheek, as I presume yours was. wink

Sara65 Wed 18-Sept-19 18:44:02

I bought two new ones today, can’t wait to wear them!

Hetty58 Wed 18-Sept-19 18:26:10

What is this scarf thing about? I do think they can look good - on other people, but I only have the knitted winter ones. The pets would have a field day if I wore one indoors. I think older ladies wear them to hide their necks!

I love a scarf and at one time had 32 all dif patterns some plain silk cashmere you name it ive eventually dwindled it down to 21, they make an outfit, don’t understand why I can give my clothes to charity but so hard to part with my beloved scarves

Goof for you Marydoll, congratulations smile

I have a bamboo 'ladder' in the corner of the bedroom, to hold all my many scarves ...

Jangran99 Wed 18-Sept-19 17:23:51

Marydoll I am an addict every colour, fabric , shape and weight! Last year, and this, the markets in Lanzarote were raided got the most beautiful ‘cashmere ‘ scarves soft and sumptuous ? Then I spotted them.....those lovely scarf rings!!! Now I have dozens of them too. No end to the pleasure of a beautiful scarf. Going again in March....hmmm!

Nannytopsy Wed 18-Sept-19 17:18:35

I have dozens! I tried to have a cull when we moved but I failed. Now, which box are they in ...? ?

Bijou Wed 18-Sept-19 17:13:35

I thought I was the only one with loads of scarves!
I also have lots of square ones which were fashionable years ago. Some were my mother’s and she insisted on designer ones.

Marydoll Wed 18-Sept-19 17:09:06

? Jura, as my old mother would have said, Don't be so pass remarkable! grin

I will have you know, I'm svelte, chic, sophisticated and I have wardrobes of clothes, all of which fit! wink

Chewbacca Wed 18-Sept-19 16:44:18

shock grin

jura2 Wed 18-Sept-19 16:18:31

My 'theory'- for what it is worth. As I am larger than I ought to- many shops do not have clothes I can buy - but a scarf always fits ;) - does that apply to you too Marydoll, perhaps.
