How did you feel..

I'm just glad that I didn't knock out another laptop by fiddling with various keys and getting into the technicalities of the system itself like I did with my previous laptop and stopped it working altogether by uninstalling.
The other laptop was only 3 years old and because I couldn't do anything with it, I gave it to my GS then promptly got another about 6 months ago. I won't be doing that again !

I noticed that the server was down but went on the two other forums I sometimes visit during tea breaks - and didn't miss it as it wasn't for long.

Having had 2 knee replacements in the past 3 years I've been stuck at home for longish spells. GN and another forum was a lifeline. I never felt lonely as I felt I'd been speaking to people all day.

Anne , I understand where you are coming from, that's the first thing I do in the morning is log on.
GN was (and still is) a lifeline for me, when I became very ill, was confined to the house and had to give up my job.

Reading others posts, make realise that my ill health is not as severe as what others are experiencing and that my life could be so much worse. At least there are days when I can get out and about.
Also, I can offload about things, when I'm feeling low, without people being judgemental, as I don't like to worry my DH.

I did know it was a problem on GN's side of things right away , but I do enjoy the Good Morning thread and I missed it. It reminded me of when I was working and would come early in the morning to find the server was down and all the phones were down into the bargain. Rather than getting the problem sorted, I spent half the time calming down staff, who were bereft at the loss of access to their PC's. .
I'm sure there were grans yesterday feeling just the same.

However, I did have a very productive morning instead of wasting spending time on GN!

I was more worried because I read about the chaos caused by Ryanair's system being down, the internet wasn't working at the gym I go to for my remedial exercise group, and on anther forum I am on. All at the same time.

If the internet packed up completely, we would be in quite a pickle. I am mildly addicted to the internet myself but I do worry that we're putting all our eggs in one basket.

I didn't panic because reading the server information told me it was a temporary fault.

I admit to missing it for the short time it was down but then I don't come to GN every day anyway.

About 01.30 Monday, there was that error message and I couldn't log in (although I'm rarely logged out) it kept going back to the login page agggghh!
I emailed GN with a screenshot so they'd get it first thing.
Yes...I'd miss it but not lose sleep.
I sprayed some THIS WORKS sleep spray on my pillows. It really does work.
Even though you try not to succumb to it's haunting aroma...PoW!...it's 8am. ?

Not being a techo whizz kid I thought it was me, not them IFSWIM, I've been having trouble with GN and MN since my sister put them on the mobile as well - then stopped getting them on the laptop. I want them on both. I've been putting off going to the computer shop due to other things getting in the way.

I hate it when things like this go down because I'm aware that I'm a bit of an idiot when it come to this modern stuff.

Now I wonder what on earth I was doing on Monday because I wasn't aware that there was a problem with Gransnet. Normally I'd be on it umpteen times a day just to find out if anyone had news or views I might like to know about.

Annsixty, I felt a bit like that. I really thought that GN had been hacked, and we were all under someone's scrutiny. ?
I had to go out in the morning, and left home without knowing whether the problem had been resolved.
When I found that it had, phew, a sigh of relief.
Then, later on, it happened again!
I have got go 'know' some of the posters, and look forward to hearing how they are managing, or not, as the case may be.
Mostly, we get the support of messages and the like, that is reassuring and you know that if necessary, you can reach out and ask for help or advice.
Thank you for starting this, and I sincerely hope that you don't feel too isolated these days.

Not dramatic annsixty I can’t leave the house, have been very isolated for two years.

Every morning on waking I come straight on GN, before getting up, yesterday morning I felt fearful, lost my only contact with the outside world.

This is where my family and friends are. On the Good Morning thread all I can say is ‘good morning’ because I am not going anywhere or doing anything but i can say ‘good morning ‘.

My friends are here and I care about many.

I truly wasn’t asking for sympathy.
I was genuinely interested in whether others felt as I did about GN and what part it plays in our lives.

Morning annsixty there have been times when GN has been a lifeline for me too and will probably be again in the future. My life is busy and probably is, in a strange way fulfilled. Although I’d prefer it to be fulfilled in a much nicer way. I do sometimes wonder how my life will be when I’m not needed so much. Will it leave an enormous vacuum that I’ll be desperate to fill. Life is a funny thing it’s often too much or too little.. I’ve had two weeks were I’ve been able to step back from things and it’s been lovely to be stress free. That’s very different from being in your situation. I know what you mean in advising us not to take things for granted and I’ve learnt the hard way to try to be grateful for the little things. I’m sure lots of gransnetters will be here soon to cheer you up. Long live gransnet

anne I can quite understand your comments, and by what I read on GN you are not the only one feeling like you do..

But sadly I think it simply shows how times have changed. Not too long ago I lived in a smaller community than I do now and no one living on their own would feel like you do because the community ensured that those people were visited, kept an eye on, taken out etc.

Social media, is, in my view a poor second best, but it is all many of us have.

Incredibly sad I think.

I know how you feel annesixty- I was going out for the day and just felt fidgety all day, not knowing if it was something I’d done and how to fix it!

As it happens I’ve had to upgrade myself to Version 2 and last night I spent hours catching up with all my usual threads so yes, I’m one who would miss all this company although I’m also very sociable and always gadding about.
