Used to dislike Xmas, but then I found out that it comes from the Greek word for Christ. X is the Greek symbol for the first two letters of Christ. I definitely hate Crimbo, though.

Like and use Chrimbo. Reminds me of happy times in the Mob. Really dislike Xmas.

My mother strongly objected to Santa Claus, we said Father Christmas, but I’ve had to accept the American version as it’s used by everybody younger than me. I don’t mind Crimbo, it’s shorter and funny.

I hate the word.

Gonegirl Sun 10-Nov-19 10:50:45

(the grrr was about 'Crimbo'.

Gonegirl Sun 10-Nov-19 10:49:57

Nothing wrong with 'Xmas' in a general sort of way. It's long been accepted. But I would never put Happy Xmas on a Christmas card.

Gonegirl Sun 10-Nov-19 10:48:04

Grrr.

We use both Santa and Father Christmas.
It was always Santa when I was a child. (Scotland)

Xmas is also acceptable.
X = Christ + mas =Christmas

Xopher = Christopher

Father Christmas here, too. Anyone calling himself Santa will not get the tot of brandy and mince pie.

Mapleleaf Sat 09-Nov-19 22:59:29

It makes me cringe, too.

FlexibleFriend Sat 09-Nov-19 22:10:59

I think it's a Scouse thing too, not that I am.

lemongrove Sat 09-Nov-19 22:10:35

Father Christmas ( but that may be a Northern thing also.)

MiniMoon Sat 09-Nov-19 22:10:14

Every time I hear it, I shout "Christmas" , at the television.
I have a mind to complain to Currys/PC world, but I don't think it would do any good.

lemongrove Sat 09-Nov-19 22:09:33

Is it a Liverpool thing?John Lennon used to say it, or was that
Chrimble?

FlexibleFriend Sat 09-Nov-19 21:59:26

That explains it it's always been Santa to my kids.

Grannybags Sat 09-Nov-19 21:07:06

No I don't Crimbo or Xmas.

It has to be Father Christmas not Santa for me too.

FlexibleFriend Sat 09-Nov-19 19:03:32

Quite like Crimbo myself but each to their own.

Witzend Sat 09-Nov-19 18:48:38

Nearly as bad as when people actually say 'Xmas'.
I once had a boyfriend who said Xmas - he didn't last long.

grannylyn65 Sat 09-Nov-19 18:42:45

Going on the game ?

grannylyn65 Sat 09-Nov-19 18:42:11

Yes

Oz10 Sat 09-Nov-19 18:40:41

I prefer Christmas

Sara65 Sat 09-Nov-19 17:52:53

I agree

This being the start time for the Christmas ads., does anyone else dislike the use of "Crimbo" instead of "Christmas" in the Curry's ad? It just sets my teeth on edge.
