He never raised a finger and I'm not sure he raised his voice either, to we children. He was gentle, kind and set high standards for us in terms of social responsibility, kindness towards others.
I can reiterate those words about my own father who was in WW1 through to WW2 and beyond in the Royal Navy. He was quiet, caring, considerate and socially responsible for the rest of his life.
Likewise other ex-servicemen I know, one of whom served with Andrew in the Falklands - but did not follow the same path as Andrew after leaving the service, as he holds down a responsible job, is a loving father and grandfather and very caring and socially responsible too.
