R.I.P. Clive James, aged 80y

Twiceasnice, he died last year! I just added that Margarita Pracatan had died.

Sad to hear this but glad he got more time than was predicted. He was very philosophical about his illness and dying which I admire. RIP Clive thanks for the good time’s

I've been doing some back reading. He reconciled with his wife at the start of his terminal illness.
I like that he 'discovered' Margarita Pracatan in a bar she was performing at and introduced her to the world
I have his Postcards from...book.

Sadly, Marguerita passed away just a few days ago.

And now Margarita has gone to join him, aged 89.

Feet of clay though.

Clever, witty and charming though he was,you’re right janpat his wife threw him out at the start of his illness (he admired her for doing it by the way) when she discovered he’d been having an 8 year affair with an Aussie beauty.

I was a big fan of Clive James, for his wit, his humour, his intellect and just all round brilliance.

Loved him.

Vale Clive James. A wit, an iconoclast, man of education, erudition and many opinions. Always his own person. A man of our generation. Safe journey Clive, wherever you are going keep stirring the pot. We will miss you.

Such a clever man and so good that he outlived his prognosis. RIP.

Love that poem! He was a very funny man and I’m sorry he has died. So many of the great funny presenters/performers are dead now unfortunately. RIP

This poem by him was posted on twitter by a woman who'd read it at her wedding. I can understand why. It's lovely.

Always liked him but what a shame he couldn't keep it in his trousers such that his wife threw him out of the marital home.

Remember Marguerita Pracatan?

A great favourite of mine, first saw him on tv in Australia. A very clever educated man, fluent in several languages, a poet, mucician, writer, entertainer, broadcaster. And he made me laugh with his dry wit and take on life. Loved reading his memoirs. Saw him do a one man show once, where he chatted to the audience, read his poetry and sang. He was amazing. Have just been watching him on tv, chatting with Mary Beard. Such a sad loss. RIP, Clive.
