Right, kitcheners, get busy. You know the routine. The tin of flapjacks to keep you going is in the corner with a kettle. The water's already on.

Hello all. I know I don’t pop in enough to hear all your news. I just can’t face talking/posting about my DiL It’s all so awful, watching her suffering. There’s hardly anything recognisable from the vibrant attractive, strong women she was. The saddest thing is she’s now almost completely blind so can’t even see the children. We are just grateful she’s still here. I hope your all well and can enjoy the bright crisp day, a nice change from the grey drizzle.

nannytopsy, the backhanded compliment on your peanut cookies made me smile! ? A bit like the colourful drawing I once received from a a small gd stating “you are the best granny in my whole life”.. erm, I am only “granny” the other ones a “grandma”! Hey ho, we take the compliments in the spirit they are offered!! Said gd, now a very mature soon- to-be teenager, and the rest of her family are arriving shortly for a roast dinner so I’d best get busy. Will pop in later toya x

Good morning to you lovely lot. I meant to visit yesterday after the visit to the pictures. Sorry to have neglected you.

The film 1917 was a powerful and moving experience. The lead actor is brilliant. We haven't stopped talking about it. The early afternoon performance was busy...we and one other couple from Ardrishaig in the theatre. wink MacSporran was chuffed that he had booked our seats. When we left, the cafe was busy and it appeared that the evening performance promised to be well patronised. It's a fabulous refurbished art deco cinema. We look forward to our next visit.

callgirl We said hello to David as we drove through Muasdale. Never ever feel that you need worry about not including all the Grans that visit our kitchen. I believe that we all feel that we belong and that's what counts.

Pittcity My son has a robot cleaner. He swears by it's reliable performance.

Carillion Oh happy day! From hereon, all of your friends in the kitchen will be sending healing vibes across the miles and wishing your husband a well deserved recovery. For you...flowers in abundance.

Susan Thank you for sharing the beautiful photos of your precious grandchildren. They are utterly delightful. Enjoy your belated festive treat.

Izabella Your photo needs no words. I sense perfect peace.

ann There are times when an unbuttoning of the tongue is necessary. Some things need to be said - after which - perhaps a (hug) or two.

Dear dragonfly xxx

Nannytopsy You've made me chuckle.

kittylester Sat 18-Jan-20 07:35:25

You make a really good point topsy.

I did a huge post yesterday - who stole it?

I'll come back later and try again.

Izabella Sat 18-Jan-20 00:58:24

No words needed. I continue TOYA

Nannytopsy Fri 17-Jan-20 23:52:42

Stay with us Ann! I think there are enough people here that everyone gets a mention from at least one IYSWIM.
DGD(3) doesn’t like cake ( I swear she is a changeling!) so today I made peanut cookies. DGS (6) came over and said “Nan, I think these are the best peanut cookies I have ever had.”
Small glow of pride before he went on “You know, I think they are the only ones I have ever had.” Pride goes before a fall ?

annodomini Fri 17-Jan-20 13:04:37

I agree, ann that it's difficult to remember and comment on what is happening in everyone's lives. The 'kitcheners' have grown in number over the years so for some of us 'oldies', it's sometimes a bit confusing! However, I have managed to follow your story, Carillion and I am so pleased that things are going to plan and you will have your husband home with you. Good wishes to him for a steady improvement and freedom from pain.
ann, don't even contemplate leaving the kitchen! Sorry to hear that you have had 'words' with your DD but I'm sure you'll both work it out in the long run.

annsixty Fri 17-Jan-20 12:27:27

Good afternoon all, although weather wise it is not here in Stockport.I am so pleased for Carillion and her H that he is getting home, good luck for his convalescence.
I hope Dragonfly is coping also.
I must admit that I get put off posting sometimes because I can’t remember everything that is happening, then I feel guilty for not mentioning everyone, please forgive and be tolerant , I really am thinking of everyone and I don’t want to stop visiting our lovely kitchen.
I am out for a meal tonight with my neighbour, a treat to look forward to, life seems rather empty at present.
I have had “words ” with my D , probably only the second time in 54 years, perhaps I should have zipped my lip but I didn’t, I felt things needed to be said. Oh well, worse things happen.
Have as good a day as you can everyone

GrannyGravy13 Thu 16-Jan-20 22:25:06

Carillion01 good news that your husband is coming home tomorrow.

Goodnight TOYA

dragonfly46 Thu 16-Jan-20 22:22:59

Wonderful news Carillion and such a relief they are bringing home in an ambulance.

Lovely pictures of the little ones Susan. Hope you have a lovely Christmas.

Nannytopsy Thu 16-Jan-20 22:13:04

We liked the film very much. I hope you enjoy it too Soop. What about a rubber ring to sit on?

Charleygirl5 Thu 16-Jan-20 22:02:19

Carillion a must better idea going ahead to warm the house etc. rather than sitting in the rear of the ambulance if allowed.

Susan the two children are seriously cute. I admit I prefer children with smiles and they suit the bill! One niggle and I hand them back.

callgirl I also agree that a robot is just great- admittedly it cannot be run along skirting boards etc but they are a boon.

callgirl1 Thu 16-Jan-20 21:38:28

Wonderful news Carillion!
Susan56, lovely photos, cute kiddies.
CharleyG, I`ve definitely decided on a new one, am looking at Shark and Vax.

Doodle Thu 16-Jan-20 21:07:29

So pleased to hear that Carillion. No place like home and I’m sure DH can’t wait to get there ?
Lovely pictures susan ?
Hello all TOYA?

Carillion01 Thu 16-Jan-20 20:52:18

dragonfly ????
Good evening everyone. Just to let you know I checked out of the hotel today (I'd become part of the furniture) because DH is being brought home by ambulance at 4.00pm tomorrow so I've come on ahead to get the house warm.
Once I've got him home will be able to post properly and have a chance to say thank you to you all for everything you have done dear kitchen friends that has made a worrying time more manageable.
Thank you dear soop for this wonderful place. TOYA xxxxxxxx

Susan56 Thu 16-Jan-20 19:59:40

Charley,I agree with you re the amount of laundry,I said to my husband I think there must be people living in this house who I haven’t met!
We are inspired to go to the cinema, will probably wait until DH is totally recovered. We tend to go to silver screen,£3 each including coffee and biscuits.
Well all being well,we will have the first of our belated Christmas meet ups tomorrow. So excited to see two of our grandchildren and then will see little B next week??

Pittcity Thu 16-Jan-20 19:09:46

Callgirl I replaced my broken vacuum with a robot one. Best thing ever. Set it going and leave it. Clean floors and no effort. Fun too.

Charleygirl5 Thu 16-Jan-20 19:06:30

callgirl I would bite the bullet because once something breaks down for me it is usually never ending. Look around online and see if you can get it any cheaper.

It is raining here and Tara has appeared, virtually dry. She cannot have been far away. After her exhausting day, she has gone upstairs to collapse on the bed of her choice- usually mine.

soop have you anything really soft which could be placed on the seat of the car on your discharge? layers of packing foam spring to mind.

It is not exactly 10 minutes drive down the road so you have to be as comfortable as possible. Maybe even lie on the back seat on your side? Ask MacS to pop a couple of cushions or pillows in the car in case they are needed. It will all soon be over thank goodness.
TOYA

callgirl1 Thu 16-Jan-20 17:49:15

Soop, I hope you enjoy 1917, I`ve heard good reports of it. I haven`t been near a cinema since Titanic in 1997! Your description of your visit to the dentist had me cringing and wincing, you`re a brave lady.

Corner, this grumpy period will pass (eventually) and the cheerful Corner we know and love will return.

My vacuum cleaner has been and gone and broke! It`s a Gtech cordless and I loved it. After several emails between me and the company, they`ve concluded that I need a new base unit, at a cost of £69.99, but it doesn`t include the dirt bin or battery, I have to use the ones on my present cleaner, so I think it`s a bit expensive, and am wondering whether to bite the bullet and buy a new machine altogether.

To everyone who is, or has been, poorly, TOYA xx

Pittcity Thu 16-Jan-20 16:55:18

I really enjoyed 1917...more an experience than a film. I recommend you see it on the big screen if you can.
Enjoy, Soop and nannatopsy.
