Right, kitcheners, get busy. You know the routine. The tin of flapjacks to keep you going is in the corner with a kettle. The water's already on.

soop Mon 06-Jan-20 13:43:54

I echo Nannytopsy's message to granniequeenie. When family pull together, their support is invaluable.

Another damp day. Loads of my own ironing to tackle. If I sit aboot the hoos...hmm.

I shall return a little later.

You are in our collective thoughts, Carrilion flowers

Nannytopsy Sun 05-Jan-20 23:26:43

Well done grannieq - you have given your DD a flying start and deserved your glasses of red! I finally conquered to ironing mountain about 20 minutes ago. It has been growing faster than I could clear it this week.
Carillion we shall all be with you in spirit tomorrow. My mum had something similar in her late eighties and made a very good recovery.
Builders return tomorrow, so I have bought more biscuits!
TOYA, keep well.

grannyqueenie Sun 05-Jan-20 22:23:33

Good news that some poorly folk are on the mend but sad to hear that others are still struggling. Hope you both manage to keep the germs at bay soop

Wishing you both all the best for all that’s ahead carillion• , it’s been a long wait for you hoth. *Ann I’m delighted that you’ve been out and about but slightly shocked to hear you’ve been causing such mayhem in a local restaurant! ?? Congratulations, *grannygravy^ what a beautiful little one, enjoy those early cuddles they are so very special.

It’s hard to think that we may never have more news of the Panaches, I do hope we’re wrong to think that may be the case but sadly our fears may be well founded.

Well we’ve seen dd4 safely into her new home. It went as well as it could have done really, The removal men were absolute stars, hardworking, respectful and did everything they’d promised and more besides. The new house did need a lot more cleaning than she’d expected so we all worked like Trojan’s to get it sorted and we were able to leave her last night in a more pleasant environment. I don’t think my standards or hers are particularly exacting, let’s just say the previous owners clearly sang from a different song sheet!! We were both pretty tired when we got home last night but it was 3 days very well spent and much appreciated by our daughter too. She has a good group of supportive friends who will help out in the weeks/months to come as she settle in. After church this morning we had an impromptu lunch invitation from friends, prefect ax we’d rather run out of steam!

So having “de-Christmassed” our house this afternoon and enjoyed biscuits and cheese with a glass or 2 of red this evening it will be back to “auld clothes and porridge” from tomorrow! It’s now almost time for bed so I wish you all a good restful night. x

soop Sun 05-Jan-20 17:13:27

Dear Carillion, you have already been through a difficult time. Waiting for surgery can be terribly stressful. Us lot will be thinking of both you and your husband. We hope that, if you can spare the time, you will update us occasionally. Much love. xxx

annsixty Some folk! Not you and your friend...^the others^. Miserable gits Sensitive Souls wink

I'm away. I have just remembered that the washing machine beeped a very long time ago. I'm a lazy mare from time to time.

Carillon, thinking of you and your husband and sending our good wishes to you both.Wishing your husband a successful outcome to his operation and a good recovery and strength and love to you.x
Soop,I echo what Charley says. Please be careful, the last thing you and MacS need is this dreadful lurgy.
TOYA

annsixty Sun 05-Jan-20 16:09:09

Carillion all best wishes to your DH and some calmness and peace of mind for you.

Charleygirl5 Sun 05-Jan-20 16:06:42

Carillion it is now at a stage where you want it all over and done with and you can see your DH slowly returning to normal. You must look after yourself and get some rest- I know that will difficult under the circumstances but he will need care when you return home.

soop,
please look after yourself when you go to the birthday party. I am certain I picked up my lurgy in OPD being too close to other folk. You must also look after MacS.

I am definitely better, just no energy but what is new?
TOYA

Carillion01 Sun 05-Jan-20 16:05:36

Dear Doodle, ?

annodomini Sun 05-Jan-20 15:50:35

All the very best to your DH, Carillion. I'm sure you will keep us up-dated with his progress. flowers for you.

Carillion01 Sun 05-Jan-20 15:26:03

Good afternoon dear kitcheners and Happy New Year. Thank you dear soop for thinking of DH.

We're ready for our next big adventure together when he's admitted to hospital tomorrow. He's very calm and I'm presenting as calm but have had a secret few tears just once when the concern for him overcomes rational thought! However, there are many more dear kitcheners who cope with far worse ... and I'm TOYA.

I'll be staying at a hotel close by the hospital for the duration and will take my iPad with me so will be able to catch up on all kitchen news. In the meantime I hope and pray Panache is able to make contact soon. Also soop your journey to hospital must be imminent and I hope they can give you the support and answers you need. Sending love to everyone in this lovely kitchen. Xxxx

fraught /fröt/

Feeling or making anxious or distressed

noun (obsolete)
A load or cargo

Galen Sun 05-Jan-20 14:23:12

A draft! What on earth is a fraught?

Galen Sun 05-Jan-20 14:22:12

Annesixty perhaps they were in a fraught?

grannysyb Sun 05-Jan-20 14:00:44

Soop, do have any first defence? Boots sell it and I used it when DH had a nasty cold in early December which turned into a chest infection. He was on antibiotics and got better only to get another one just before Christmas! Luckily we have a very good practice and he got an appointment on Christmas eve! More antibiotics, more first defence. I also slept in the spare room and have escaped the lurgy so far. Perhaps MacS could try it before you go to your party.

annsixty Sun 05-Jan-20 13:54:35

I believe it is accommodation for older people which they own and not a home where The Panache’s live.
I expect no information would be given.I don’t even know where in Wales they live.
It is unsettling not to know but as posted I suspect we never will.
I have hesitated to post this as it is rather embarrassing but while out last night in a very small restaurant, really small, my friend and I, who hadn’t seen each other since before Christmas, must have talked rather a lot.
Suddenly a couple at the next table, probably in their early 30’s asked to be moved.
We could only assume they were fed up with our conversation, it was rather awkward, at least we didn’t have crying children with us.
I have to say we weren’t raucous at all, just talking.

Nannytopsy Sun 05-Jan-20 13:25:42

In the last kitchen someone had made contact with the Panaches by pm, but I can’t remember who. MrP had deteriorated I think. I do fear the worst.
Can anyone remember who had made contact? Perhaps they know the name of the home and a discreet phone call could be made?

soop Sun 05-Jan-20 13:03:03

Good afternoon to you lovely lot. It be grey and damp and a bit blowy in bonnie Kintyre.

Happy birthday, Kitty. May we all help to sample your cake? Starched napkins and best china on the table. I have also located a bottle of sparkling wine. Shall we raise a glass or two this afternoon? grin

Ann We two favour an early start to the evening and a not-too-late return. Funny, isn't it, that once-upon-a-time, we couldn't get enough of staying up as late as we liked. Except my Papa always insisted on waiting up for me. No way could I tiptoe unseen through the front door. He was there like the spectre at the feast. wink

Sorry to hear that the wretched germs are hanging on in there. Thus far, thankfully, we have escaped. Although on Monday evening we are attending our pal's 80th birthday bash. Thirty guests. What's the betting a few rogue germs will be exchanged. MacSporran has a date with the haematologist in Oban mid week. Please may he escape any infection as he would suffer more than I would. I'd happily take on his germs on his behalf.

I am fearing the worst regarding Panache . If only we could enquire without causing unneccessary upset.

NanaandGrampy Sun 05-Jan-20 10:38:20

Morning all!

At last the germs are on their way out ( promise time for Grampy to catch them lol) here , thank goodness. The decorations must be put away today and we have to have a stock check in the freezers because we have reached the stage where neither of us know what we have and dinner has turned into a bizarre mixture of odd things!

Now I am feeling more like myself it’s time to tackle those jobs!

Happy birthday Kitty !! Will there be cake? ???, im sure I could manage a chunk!

I don’t suppose anyone has a phone number for the Panaches? I have one for another member of the kitchen just in case we need to check up on their well being.

Sending tissues and a hug to all with germs or otherwise feeling unwell....GrannyG , do we know the young mans name ? Or is sharing that not allowed? And now I’m getting germ free , will you be bringing him into the kitchen for a cuddle ? ??

Happy days all x

Pantglas2 Sun 05-Jan-20 09:30:46

How cute is he Grannygravy13! And nothing wrong in being biased IMO - we’re entitled!

Happy birthday Kitty and hope everyone else unwell is better soon - I’ve left some of my chicken soup simmering on the hob - help yourselves as it has restorative powers being made from two carcasses!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 05-Jan-20 09:23:06

Happy Birthday Kitty flowersflowers

annsixty Sun 05-Jan-20 09:13:17

Happy Birthday kitty, was last year a big one or is it this year?
I had a very nice meal last night, we went quite early so my friend came in for a couple of glasses of wine and we set the world to rights, she was still across the road home at 9:45pm, we really are lightweights now.
It is damp and grey here but I can’t comment on temperature as I haven’t put my nose out yet.
Have as good a day as you can everyone and you poorly ones, get better soon.

cornergran Sun 05-Jan-20 08:53:21

The Good Morning thread tells me it’s Kittys birthday. A very happy day to you, hope you’ll be spoiled rotten wine. flowers.

Your new grandson is indeed a beautiful boy grannyg, hope everyone is rested now.

Germs continue to thrive here, sort of withdraw then come back in force. It seems our hosting skills have improved hmm. There are much worse things I know but tired of it now, the ability to think and sufficient energy to do ‘normal’ things is still awol in us both.

I’ve also wondered how we could know about Mr and Mrs panache, but can think of nothing helpful soop. I’ve sort of concluded we may never know.

Here’s hoping all poorly people feel much better soon. It’s actually dry here so we’re aiming for some air.

TOYA.

Doodle Sat 04-Jan-20 22:58:23

Beautiful boy granygravy. Many congratulations to all the family ?
Hope all the poorly people are feeling better soon.

Right! I shall now repeat, in part, the message that disappeared from the screen earlier this afternoon.

annsixty I always think that unexpected treats are special. Enjoy your evening meal together with good company.

Susan56 Charleyg and Synonymous I feel for you. So sorry to hear that you are still unwell. Some time ago, a particularly bad cough morphed into pneumonia and I spent a week in hospital. You must do as your GP's advise. I am pleased that you are being monitored.

dragonfly You are a shining star. flowers

I am now extremely concerned for the Panaches. I feel sure that Panache would have put in an appearance, no matter how brief, over the festive season. I understand that they are a private couple. I just wish that we could contact them without appearing "pushy". Any ideas?
