Good Morning Tuesday 18th August 2026
I’m on Nitrofurantoin and feeling so sick.
Right, kitcheners, get busy. You know the routine. The tin of flapjacks to keep you going is in the corner with a kettle. The water's already on.
For no good reason I've not managed to do much, other than a quick peek in the kitchen lately. Christmas good wishes to all kitchen folk. Get well wishes for all those who’re under the weather. Sorry to hear that that the Panaches are not doing so well. n&g, Sam looks like a very patient pooch! soop as always you look so elegant.
A quieter day here for us, just the 7 of us helping dd1 celebrate her 49th birthday. Yesterday there were 19 of us plus 2 dogs at dd2’s, she hosted us beautifully with more food than we could manage. Very blessed to be all together at the end of what’s been a very tough year for 2 of our teenage granddaughters. It was so good to see them both seeming so much happier, enjoying the day and confidently interacting with the whole family.
Izabella keep taking the photographs and make sure you are in some of them so you can establish the link. That was a particularly beautiful garden that you shared with us and such lovely roses.
Urmstongran hope you start to feel better very soon,
Do not apologise Charley as it is very reasonable to say so when you feel exhausted by small activities!
I feel very cross and fed up that I am now in the second month of feeling like death warmed up - although only slightly warmed up! Grrr!
At least I did not spend the night coughing but aia spent part of the afternoon asleep. I have no energy at all.
If Tara came home I would join her in bed "resting my eyes". Will I ever return to normal? The most I have done was to put out some rubbish and that was exhausting. My ap[ologies, there are people who really do have crosses to bear.
TOYA
Izabella Treasure your visual memories. they are priceless.
Charleyg (((Hugs))) for Tara and you (of course).
Urmstongran That bug is vicious. Best place for you is indoors, in your favourite chair, with nowt to prevent you from resting. It does pass. It takes time. Relax!
corner Delighted that you were stress-freefor Christmas Day. We had a lovely, gentle day. A few treats. No rushing around. And...'Morecombe and Wise' to laugh through for the umpteenth time.
Pantglas2 Her Majesty seems ageless. If I live to be her age, I doubt that I shall have a fraction of her wherewithall.
Boxing Day was, in the past, a day spent together with four of our closest friends. Three have died. One is in the care home. We remember them fondly.
A restful Boxing Day her amidst lavenders, roses, geraniums and cherry trees. Recovering from partying NZ style yesterday and cricket in the garden. BBQ later.
To all of you with colds, lurgies , worries and undergoing treatment we send our best wishes.
I am having a great time but sadly having great difficulty remembering where we have been the visual memories are still pretty good though
Evening All. A good day here with one of ours. We ate out, only the second time for us and much to my surprise I enjoyed every minute. No stress, good food and good company. Two more of ours will be here tomorrow, looking forward to it.
So sorry there are poorly Kitcheners, look after yourselves, hope you are much better very soon.
TOYA and wishing you all a restful night and a happy Boxing Day.
N&G who is the poor dog half strangled between Jackson and Cooper? He is still enjoying the attention!
soop Tara has had a tummy problem since she arrived here aged 2 and is on special food for it. I am used to her being sick a few times during the week- she is kind enough to save it all for indoors even having just spent 14 hours outside!
Happy Christmas or what is left of it to all,
TOYA
Sorry to hear you’re unwell Urmstongran and missed out on the festivities with your family - DH and I have just finished our lunch and watching the Queen as I type.
Get well soon x
I don’t often post on this lovely thread but I do read it most days. I’ve quarantined myself today with what is either a stomach bug, IBS which I’ve never had before but the symptoms fit. Or ... no, my mind will not go there. I shall make an appointment to see the doctor on Friday.
All my family are enjoying their Christmas lunch in a local restaurant. I told my husband not to rush back.
I shall watch the Queen’s speech in an hour. I don’t usually bother but it struck me with Prince Philip going into hospital how old they are now.
I’m going to make a piece of toast and a small cup of tea now in the hope I feel better afterwards.
I wish you all a lovely Christmas Day whatever your plans. x
Lovely to be back, Doodle
aggie Very funny!
I shall wash the dishes and make a pot of tea, After which, I shall loll! May be tempted to hunt for and possibly find a box of After Eight Mints that I squirreled away a few weeks ago. Should still be in date.
I intend returning tomorrow. In the meantime,
[tchmoon]
Having a lovely day with GC , even better ,
my hearing aids have run out of batteries?
soop so glad you’re back in the kitchen for Christmas.
Hope you feel better soon charley and tara and you too syn and greyduster.
Merry Christmas to all ? ?
Have I mentioned that I am one lucky lady to have you lot grace our kitchen? Well, it's true. Having this special connection with you has enhanced my life. You are kind, considerate, and oftimes make me smile. Thank you.
N&G A photo of "our boys" to help to lift our spirits. Bless them both.
Charleyg Sorry to hear that Tara has been off colour. She hasn't eaten something she shouldn't I trust. Pets have a way of sneakily devouring all manner of stuff that is out of bounds, especially over the festive season.
Greyduster and Syn and all of our Granspals who are feeling jaded...relax and remember...this too shall pass.
We went out for a walk earlier today. Met just one couple; the people who took three feral cats into their home prior to them being adopted by the Cat Protection League in Oban.
Last night we laughed our way through the Morecombe and Wise "lost tapes". Such fun. So unlike some of the tacky comedy that we avoid.
MacSporran and I send loving vibes to each and every one of you. Here is a photo that he took during our walk. Mince pie and mature cheese for lunch. Lovely!
Not miserable Charley. You just feel rotten. This bug has been vicious. If you want to go back to bed then do. You can eat later. Hope Tara feels better now
Funnily enough the daughter we are going to said her cat was sick this morning. Maybe there’s a feline bug going around? Happy Christmas!
I may return to bed. Poor Tara was sick during the night and I am sure my neighbours were kept awake with my coughing. These things will pass others are in a much worse state.
TV channels have surpassed themselves, there is nothing for me to watch.
Merry Christmas everybody- please ignore this miserable old git.
Merry Christmas to all who pop into the kitchen today. Up early to church then out later. Wishing you all well x
Good morning the Christmas kitchen, and a happy peaceful Christmas to all kitcheners.???. Sorry to hear you are poorly, Syn - take it easy. I have a very sore mouth today. It has been plaguing me since we got here and I put it down to having drunk some very hot coffee on the way down, but it has got worse instead of better. I hope that I can eat my Christmas dinner!
Just popped in to wish you all a Merry Christmas. I am still in bed with a ☕️. We don’t eat til 7 and DD and SiL are enjoying a rare lie in.
I was sorry to hear of your sadness Lins I was not aware.
Sending love and best wishes to all, especially to those who are ill and suffering.
Synonymous I do hope you feel better soon. I have PMd you
Wishing all 'kitcheners' a very happy and blessed Christmas however you are spending this time. You are all very much in my thoughts and prayers, you are all very special peoples!
(((hugs)))
So pleased to see you back soop it was a very long time without you! Hope you have a good day together later today.
I am still struggling to get free of this awful flu, my ears are slightly better and I am starting to be able to hear again. Infuriatingly I started coughing again yesterday morning and although I went to bed fairly early sleep was elusive and chased away by congestion and a hacking cough so I got up again and I have been inhaling eucalyptus from a bowl of hot water underneath a towel. Slightly relieved and I shall try again for some sleep shortly.
Such a blessing that DD came on Monday and wrapped all that was left, cooked and finished the shopping. A friend came round and got the tree out of the loft so that was very simply decorated and presents stacked beneath the branches. Then on Christmas Eve DS, DDIL and DGC arrived and got stuck in too. They have all grown so big and I am desperate to give more than 'airhugs' but am more keen not to give them any bugs! Feel truly blessed to have them all here.
Wishing you all the best possible Christmas, and for those who are poorly or sad at what can be a difficult time of year TOYA. Off to my lovely DD tomorrow, there will be 11 or 12 of us. Phone calls before we go to family, DHs daughter is on call tonight and her husband tomorrow night, both at London hospitals so hope they have a reasonably quiet time.
I don't post often in the kitchen but read it every day. It is a wonderful place, full of friendship and kindness. Thank you Soop for starting it.
We are off early tomorrow, a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive to spend Christmas Daywith my eldest daughter, SIL and 3 of my beautiful granddaughters. I am very excited !!!
My warmest Christmas wishes to you all. I hope you all have the best day possible xx
Fondest greetings to all the kitcheners tonight. Xx
