I miss the profiles

Sometimes when I read a comment from someone it would be incredibly useful to know their age group ( not an exact age but something like 50's or 70's or even 20's ) and even whereabouts in the world they are.

It would help me understand where they are coming from and from what era and understand their point of view better.

I know most of us opted out of profiles when the press started naming posters as they lifted quotes from the site ( and I'm not even sure if you CAN have a profile now) but does anyone else see where I'm coming from and either agree or disagree?

If you disagree , would you share why so I can try and understand the pros and cons?

I'm also a 'shorty' - 4"9' (just under 1.5 metres). At least my husband loves me the way that I am and I see life from a different perspective, sometimes at waist level! Ehm.blush

I have a great sense of humour, if not a bit 'mad/crazy/daft/black' but that's me!

I'm a laid back person, not an 'angry shorty'. However I do get the 'hump' if I can't find clothes or shoes to fit me. My feet are a diddy size UK 2, EU 34 and shopping in the kiddies department has its benefits but not all the time. Nice pair of heels? Nope. Nice evening dress? Nope...?

I'm a cat lover - even if I end up with hayfever because of their fur... Love the outdoors and go around in flip flops whenever I can (even in winter - yes MAD!!?).

I think it's all to do with GDPR Urmonstongran.
Some posters had a fair bit of personal info, but everything had to be updated in line with GDPR guidelines.
I suspect it was easier just to do away with profiles.

I was involved in some GDPR stuff and it was quite complicated, I hated having to deal with it.

Urmstongran Mon 16-Dec-19 09:12:37

I joined only a couple or 3 years ago. Before the profiles.

I didn't realise the profiles had been disabled. I deleted mine when the panic started

What was ‘the panic’??

Greyduster Mon 16-Dec-19 08:55:27

Mary absolutely no apology needed. You probably saw a photo of me wearing my Tilley hat on a fishing trip. I left berets behind when I left the Army! I have hated them ever since. When they were new, they sat on your head like a pancake, so it was the “thing” (although strictly speaking not allowed) to soak them, shape them to your head and allow them to dry in that shape. If they weren’t quite dry when you wore them the leather band could leave a dye mark around your forehead! Then you were in for it!!?

Marydoll Sun 15-Dec-19 07:22:56

Greyduster, apologies for misrepresenting you.
I do have an image of you wearing some sort of headgear.
Perhaps I have dreamt it it all!!!!!!

lovebeigecardigans1955 If you fancy it, some of us are planning to meet up in January, in Nottingham city centre.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 13-Dec-19 12:35:43

You could be my twin salsa as I'm also 5'1" and live in the Nottingham area and can get angry if I lose something or face a setback to what I'd prefer to be a peaceful life.

annodimini I love rugby too. Used to follow Fartown. I wanted to play but girls just didn’t when I was young. I played hockey instead. We were fierce !

Greyduster Fri 13-Dec-19 10:35:47

I, too, miss the profiles. Not that mine was riveting but I did enjoy reading everyone else’s and seeing their photos - it’s always nice to put a face to a name. I am short (five feet and half an inch - very important to me, that half inch), frequently angry and have webbed feet from standing in water too long (I may have webbed knees as well!). Like QuaintIrene I like a pint of Timmy’s but my preferred tipple is Guinness (which you used to be able to get on prescription back in the day!). Those who frequent the GM thread will know that I live in South Yorkshire, and I have one grandchild. And I don’t own a beret?, but have a variety of other strange headgear!

annodomini Fri 13-Dec-19 10:30:30

Our names used to show in blue if our profile was open to the rest. Once someone used a bit of info in mine to send me an offensive PM.
I am forever 27 which is odd as I have a GD of that age. A cat person (miaow) who also gets on with dogs - they always smile at me in the street. Still have all my teeth - at least I've paid for them. I have such green fingers that my garden could soon become a Japanese moss garden. Love rugby but just watching; my playing days are over.
Any kindred spirits out there?

EllanVannin Fri 13-Dec-19 10:13:44

What an hilarious thread----is it for real ??

Yorksherlass Fri 13-Dec-19 09:59:36

BradfordLass I am sat here after almost laughing myself off the chair trying to picture what the hell an “ armadildo” is and if such thing exists , should I get one ? ?

QuaintIrene Fri 13-Dec-19 08:31:10

That.

QuaintIrene Fri 13-Dec-19 08:30:02

Yes, thank would be good to see what people have posted. If only to help not causing any accidental offence about something.

JackyB Fri 13-Dec-19 08:11:48

Oh - me? I'm the one who grew up in Suffolk but have lived in Germany now for over 40 years. I'm about on the lower end of average height and consider life too short to get cross about anything.

JackyB Fri 13-Dec-19 08:09:20

I didn't realise the profiles had been disabled. I deleted mine when the panic started, and have never looked at anyone else's.

What would be useful, though, would be to be able to read a poster's other posts, which conversations they have contributed to and what they said.

QuaintIrene Fri 13-Dec-19 08:05:38

I am 5 foot 3 and rotund. I like colouring my fringe different colours. Pink this time. I live in Doc Martens and have too many handbags. I like wine, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and crisps. Milk and citrus fruit make me spotty.
I love animals and reading. Widowed 2 years in January coming. Still wobbly about that. Prone to loneliness. 2 stepsons and 5 grandchildren I don’t see often . No ones fault.
I am 57 and have dyscalculia. Diagnosed with PTSD but manage ok in the main. Live in grim, grimy deprived West Yorkshire town. House damp and leaky. That’s it I think.

Willow500 Fri 13-Dec-19 07:03:41

I am told on a regular basis how tall I am but can never remember so I continue to think I'm a tall, willowy blond with very few wrinkles and definitely only one chin! I only ever eat healthy food which includes chocolate, gin and the odd mince pie and have never spit my dummy out at anyone apart from inanimate objects like uncooperative mobile phones or computers. I live in the wilds of South Yorkshire with the original Victor Meldrew and the she devil incarnate (aka the cat who shall remain nameless) and her docile 'brother' the fairy killer grin

EllaKeat52DurhamDonkeyLover Fri 13-Dec-19 05:39:32

Riverwalk I live in Durham ?
Oh, my goodness! I am not 52, I am 58! I must change my name....... must have been wishful thinking?

NfkDumpling Thu 12-Dec-19 23:06:31

I do miss the profiles terribly. Especially on the Good Morning thread when someone says what their weather is like but not where they are.

I quite like Ella’s idea. I’m halfway there already. *NfkDumpling72.DH1,DC3.DGC4.

Curlywhirly Thu 12-Dec-19 21:52:17

Well here goes - I am from the North West, early 60s, another shorty, just under 5' and weight 7s 5lbs. I have 2 grandchildren who luckily, live 10 mins away. Though I am short, not sure I am angry, being more of a pacifist, forgive and forget, life's too short kind of person. Although, I have been known to go off like a bottle of fizzy pop if hunting, child or animal cruelty are being discussed ???

Riverwalk Thu 12-Dec-19 21:50:44

I take it you live in Durham - or it's a breed of donkey?

Riverwalk Thu 12-Dec-19 21:48:59

EllaKeat52DurhamDonkeyLover grin

Greyduster Thu 12-Dec-19 21:47:43

The only one I remember is Greyduster. It was her beret, I admired. grin
Marydoll I haven’t worn a beret since 1966! Where did you see that, pray?

Gonegirl Thu 12-Dec-19 21:47:15

You are NOT a donkey. tchgrin
