I feel sorry for Prince Harry

After looking at all the news reports etc I have come to the conclusion that Harry is really stuck in the middle of his wife and the RF. Meghan married Harry very quickly, which can cause difficulties in ‘normal’ families, but with the emotionally constipated RF it was a disaster waiting to happen. If someone like Diana, who had experience of royalty couldn’t cope with the way of life or the hold the courtiers have over proceedings, how could a feisty American. Catherine has only managed it because she and William took a very long time to get her settled into the RF.
Moving to a new country, getting married, having a baby and trying to fit into the RF is a heavy burden, and then being bullied completely by the press is enough to make anyone crack. The daily mail is still dredging up anyone they can to slate Meghan and Harry.
Harry is trying to protect his wife, and according to recent reports, has tried to initiate changes but has been rebuffed at every stage. I would think that seeing the photos on the Queen’s desk didn’t show him or Meghan or their son was hurtful and an indication that they no longer counted. The further photos of the 4 reigning/next in line would surely have pushed home that point.
Harry has slumped down the line of succession, the same thing that happened to Andrew, Anne and Edward. But they had each other to share this change of status and that surely made matters easier.
I think Harry feels very alone and impotent and is trying very hard to change things for his wife, but has had to make a huge fuss to get anyone to listen. If you add in his own personal problems then I am very surprised that he is still trying to go forward instead of just giving up. Perhaps now the RF will abandon their stiff upper lip and treat Harry better than they did Diana.
Sorry for long waffle.

Face value

I don't think you can blame the example given by GrannyGravy's newspaper articles above on racism, taken at fade value.
It's a prime example of the type of media coverage of Diana and Sarah - beautiful, elegant, sorrowful, champion of Aids patients, the homeless versus the slightly plump, so-called greedy, adulterous Sarah and her nasty nickname.
Sarah with the red hair (could that be gingerist?).

suziewoozie Tue 14-Jan-20 10:22:39

Don’t be so ridiculous maddy. Those engaging in whataboutery are doing so because they don’t want to acknowledge that racism is an institutional part of this story - it’s not a part of every story of course and no one dumb well said it was. Try reading really reading posts by people you don’t agree with and then thinking.

maddyone Tue 14-Jan-20 10:21:52

Suziewoozie, you appear to be a very angry individual.

Anniebach Tue 14-Jan-20 10:21:00

Callistemon possibly American. Brits don’t do pushy .

Diana was adored because she did ‘shy Di’. Poor Fergie didn’t
stand a chance.

suziewoozie Tue 14-Jan-20 10:19:01

Call very few things are binary ( apart from biological sex) but racism and misogyny explain most things (exacerbated by the individuals own behaviour)

maddyone Tue 14-Jan-20 10:16:42

Annie, the examples you quote are being ignored by others because they don’t fit their agenda. Nonetheless, even though they were ignored, they happened. Waity Katie, too lazy to get a job, deliberately went to St Andrew’s to snare William, doors to manual mother, coal minor great grandfather (what’s actually wrong with that I ask myself) and a dodgy uncle who made himself rich in a ‘dodgy’ way. And that’s all just about Catherine.
And the rest of the royal ladies you mention had just as difficult time.
Racism fits the agenda of some people who don’t want to look beyond the end of their noses I’m afraid.

Callistemon Tue 14-Jan-20 10:15:37

And there was me thinking that the prejudice sometimes demonstrated in the media was because she was American.

I thought it was because of the disastrous entanglement of Harry's great-great uncle with another American woman nd the consequences of that liaison.

Anniebach, yes, the press have always had to have the good princess -v- the bad princess, starting with HM and Margaret.

Anniebach Tue 14-Jan-20 10:09:50

Can it be because we were discussing two women ?

suziewoozie Tue 14-Jan-20 10:07:54

annie you’ve clearly missed the elephant in the room that all your examples are women and that misogyny is part of tge diseased organs that masquerade as ‘newspapers’.

Anniebach Tue 14-Jan-20 10:07:49

I so remember Anne being interviewed by Wogan, he referred
to her negative press coverage .

Anne - they wanted a princess but they got me.

Anniebach Tue 14-Jan-20 10:04:39

And the attitude of the press towards the women named in my post ?

Fergie v Diana. Sophie v Diana. Anne v Diana. Camilla v Diana. Princess Michael v Princess Alexandra .

suziewoozie Tue 14-Jan-20 10:04:12

With KM, there was always the MSM attitude that she wasn’t ‘good enough’. A lot of social snobbery about her origins. Also misogyny - male partners of female royals never get the same negative treatment (and men in general are never as criticised as women). .

GagaJo Tue 14-Jan-20 10:04:10

Yes, I agree GG13. Indeed, A Level English Language and International Baccalaureate English classes are being taught (NOT by me, before I am accused of manipulation) internationally looking at the UK media bias in relation to the treatment of Meghan Markle.

So, to clarify, internationally, this is seen as SO obvious and so racist, that schools world wide are taking this as British press racism.

I know this because of international teaching forums that I am on/a member of.

westendgirl Tue 14-Jan-20 10:00:06

So what was it called when Kate had lots of derogatory comments before the wedding ,Suzie woozie ?
I would have thought that when you start a new job you wouldn't go in and try to alter the company and then moan because no-one listened and indeed put you in your place, so that you could learn as you went along.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Jan-20 09:57:47

Even if you take the colour of Meghan and Katherine's skin out of the articles I posted, they are still an excellent example of MSM attitude towards Meghan.

Anniebach Tue 14-Jan-20 09:53:06

I never noticed Princess Margaret, Princess Michael of Kent,
Princess Anne, Duchess of York, Countess of Wessex were
‘Women of colour ‘.

GagaJo Tue 14-Jan-20 09:52:58

Suzie, EXACTLY that.

As both a teacher and a mother of a mixed race child, I can tell you, you are SPOT on.

Desdemona Tue 14-Jan-20 09:52:41

The children of Princess Anne don't have titles or money from the Queen and seem quite happy. Why is it a problem for Harry and Meghan to take this route?

I know Harry is the son of the future king but he is very far down the line of succession now.

suziewoozie Tue 14-Jan-20 09:45:25

No * annie* you don’t successfully deny racism by practicing ‘whataboutery’. You just demonstrate that your negative feelings about MM are so strong, that you won’t entertain for one moment that there is racism at play in the whole scenario.( and of course misogyny as well)

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Jan-20 09:27:41

Anniebach yes they are out there, but I posted three examples of what can only be described as "exactly the same scenarios" but reported in a totally different "tone"

suziewoozie Tue 14-Jan-20 09:24:40

And there you go - a perfect example of a blind refusal to address the underlying issue.

suziewoozie Tue 14-Jan-20 09:23:51

GG thank you for that - I’d thought about posting it as well but .....well, we’ll see. They are perfect examples of the subtle, nuanced forms that racism can take. No crude use of racist terminology, but over time a setting of an agenda that person a=good and right and person b=bad and wrong. I would also say it’s an example of dog whistle racism. If a GNer had a mixed race dgc who regularly was punished and criticised at school for the same behaviour that a white child was praised for, that GNer might quite reasonably, wonder if the teacher was actually being racist either consciously or unconsciously. That’s what I meant in an earlier post about complexities and nuances of racism and which, quite frankly, I don’t think a lot of posters ‘get’. They believe ( or say they believe) that racism is manifested by calling someone a n*** or saying I don’t like you because you’re black.

Racism is so often subtle and invidious and that’s why it’s so dangerous. MSM like the DE and DM know exactly what they are doing and they know very well that many of their readers are either stupid and overtly racist or stupid and don’t realise they are being played. The result is sadly the same.

Anniebach Tue 14-Jan-20 09:23:45

No paper cuttings about - waity Katie. Too lazy too work.

Here mother arranged for her to go to St. Andrews so she
could meet Prince William.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Jan-20 09:18:02

I hope these are clearer.
