We’ve had a lovely, if tiring, day out. We picked up my 87y old stepfather late this morning and drove down to Birmingham (2 hours) so he could see his 93y old brother. Who is sprightly, widowed these last 10y and self caring.

HE drove us to his local restaurant for lunch. It was nice to see the brothers catching up in person. They ring one another every weekend - have done for years.

Back to his house for a drink. He insisted we chose something each from his home that we liked. He has arranged for a house clearance ‘when I’m gone’. He said he will put stickers on said items, bless.

I said I hoped he’d hang around long enough to receive his telegram from HM.

We left at 5pm and got home around 7:30pm as there had been long delays on the M6 due to a bad accident. So sad to think somebody’s Wednesday didn’t end how they’d planned.

Grannygravy---I've spent many an hour labouring over a card masterpiece 5until I realised that most of the recipients didn't really care so now I save them for special people.

soop---I wish Baker would listen to your wise advice, but alas he's a cat and does exactly what he wants. I love the picture of Brodie---he looks so well, and it's lovely to know that he's safe and loved.

I very rarely pop into the kitchen....I've just realised that there aren't any posts from Panache is she okay? I do hope so...

Evening All. Back from a couple of exhausting but enjoyable days in the Cotswolds. Shopping occurred .

Brodie is looking very well soop. A Brodie lookalike wanders around here, Sleek and well fed he must have a home although he has claimed ownership of our front garden.

Our friend is well supported by family and friends soop, thank you for caring.

There seem to be some very characterful cats in the Kitchen, entertaining to read about .

Grannyg I feel your pain. The last time I attempted something similar there was a need for a long lie down in a very dark room.

Off to sort some food, goodness knows what. We’re on grandparent detail for the next couple of days. I’ll be back
when (if!!!) sanity, energy and my ability to think return.

Soop Brodie looks so like our last cat.

I have just spent 4 hours creating a personalised Birthday Card for one of our AC on a well known card sight (??) I am now going to have a very large glass of wine!!! It was so flipping complicated!!!!

Nannytopsy I'm also wondering whether your dear boy cat has a form of early dementia. How old is he? Providing you have the patience to reaasure him when he has his "moments" he will still have a good quality of life. You obviously love him.

I am logging off for today. This morning's ironing session was full-on. My pal's dog has recently undergone knee surgery. He was happy to sit on his many cushions and watch me.

Back again in the morning.

chicken Our Baker is grounded. It's for his own good. Us lot would not wish to going through yet more worrying days and nights with him under sedation in the cat hospital ward. Tell him...behave.

Charleyg Yes. You do have some rights. Tara's just happen to be more important.
We've decided to take Brodie's smart cat bowl and a big bag of dried food to the lady who is doing the honours. We'd prefer him to remain within the safety of her farm track, than wander along a busy road to Chez Soop's Take-away.

*soop8 Ta's needs are met by the bucket load- have I no rights? I believe the house Tara has taken over actually belongs to me! Why is she so vocal in the morning but is silent when she comes home at 7 pm until she jumps on my face early am?

Baker would be finding his food and bedding in the garden shed and I doubt if it is as warm there.

NT do you think he has an early form of cat dementia?

soop I love the latest photo of Brodie- he knows how to look after himself and if he does not want to go hunting for fresh food he does not have to any more.

When we heard that Brodie was still alive and visiting a lady in the village, we gave her the cat food that we had in store for him. Today she sent this photo. It has made our day.

corner the shock of losing one's husband at a young age must be enormous. Does she have family support?

Message to Baker Tara and Nannytopsy's feline - you are a cat...you are important...you have rights and your needs must be met.

Thank you soop I had just got in from the gym when DD rang and invited me out for lunch, so I have just had more cuddles whilst 5yr old drew me pictures

Nannytopsy and Charleygirl---perhaps we should set up a society for Moaning Minnies. It sounds as if we've all got troublesome puss-cats. NT--do you think your cat thinks that the wardrobe door is the door to outdoors? And did your new duvet cover still have the "dressing" on it, Charleygirl? Perhaps Tara didn't like the smell of that chemical. Baker is still yowling to go out. He starts at about 4am, has a snooze to rest his vocal cords at midday, then yowls again from mid afternoon until we close the blinds at dusk. No hope of reprieve until the vets check-up at the end of the month!

callgirl such a pity you do not live closer- I would gladly give you both a lift although it would be a squeeze in my Skoda.

I am psyching myself up for a trip to the dental hygienist today- I am not looking forward to that.

Tara mumps and moans from the minute I crawl out of bed until she eventually decides to go out but the other times she is indoors she is as good as gold. What she wants I do not know- usually me to make a cup of coffee in double quick time so she can get more cuddles before braving the cold.

I had a brand new duvet cover on my bed yesterday- she obviously did not like it because she was downstairs within 5 minutes and spent the entire evening snoozing on the back of my chair which she rarely does. Tough, it is my bed.

Well I popped in to see our daughter yesterday evening soop and I couldn’t see or hear any sign of the new baby you mentioned!

I know some families don’t always share stuff but I’d be hurt if she’s kept that big a secret from us!

Sad news Corner even though for him it may have been a blessing of a kind.
We were woken at 3.30am by a very distressed cat. Although he is fine during the day, at night he seems to get lost. He was desperate to get into our wardrobe again. DH has to get up, pick him up and stroke him until he calms down, then show him where the cat tray, food and water are.
Now he is perfectly happy, snuggled down next to me on the bed. (Cat, not DH!) It’s a good job we are retired!

PS, CharleyG, you can be my spokesperson anytime, PLEASE!

So sorry to hear about your young friend`s husband Corner, she must be devastated, poor girl.
Ann, buggeration is too kind a word sometimes.
We finished at the hospital at 3.15, but when I rang for the wheelchair taxi, it wasn`t available until 4.15, so we had an hour to wait. The last few minutes we waited at the entrance so as to see him arrive, but by the time we were settled and on our way, we were frozen, that wind was bitter! And we have it all to do again on the 28th.

Common sense? Wasn’t that something that vanished at the same time as believing the earth was flat and mounted on 4 elephants standing on the back of a turtle?

Delighted to hear that Baker is wanting to go out again- as you said, he was very close to death a few days ago, poor little mite.

corner so sorry to hear that your friend's husband has died at such a young age. At least he did not suffer for long but that does not help his poor wife at this time.

I cannot believe a few years ago I had problems getting house insurance because of possible floods. We are 3 miles away from a small local river and the Thames is around 12 miles away!

Tara was "abandoned" indoors with plenty of food and water and countless beds to choose from. She coped somehow.

Sending sympathy to all those dealing with tragedies, buggerations and just plain "what the heck---s".

Funny old day today. Went to pick up GD from local station, only to find she was at our other nearby station five miles away! Mad dash , hampered by road works, closed level crossing and every traffic light at red.

Visited GP for meds review, no problem with them, but GP had streaming cold so hope I haven't come back with more than I went with.

Baker is getting his mojo back and is going stir crazy wanting to be let out, which we can't do as he is still sneezing and probably infectious to other cats. Soon it will be a case of us having to wear earplugs . What a difference from before when he was close to death!

Hope Tara has stopped sulking at having been "abandoned" the previous night. I'm sure she knows of plenty of cosy spots out of the wind and rain---she's a cat after all.
