I miss the Sunday mail collection. Does anyone else?

In our village the daily collection (Mon-Fri) is at 4.30pm but on Saturdays it is 9.30 -a long time to wait over the weekend!
I agree that Sunday was a day which lent itself to letter writing -and my father used always to say “A letter is not written until it is posted”

If wehave anything to go on Sunday we drp it off at the sorting office.Its just a mile and a half away and its open until 8 weekdays and weekends until late afternoon.Great for picking up anything we missed by being out when the postie called.

Gosh, by reading this post I’ve suddenly realised I only use the post nowadays for greetings cards.
I can’t remember the last time I put pen to paper to write a letter as everyone I know uses email regardless of age.

It was a card Esspee but once it's written and posted you don't like to think it's sitting in the pillar box for 2 days. Last w/end collection here is Saturday noon.

Other counties are worse I know. My son in NZ for example. I have to send cards at least a month in advance and even then it gets put in a box at the end of the garden. Air mail! ha! pigeon post more like.

The postal collection in this country was amazing in the old days, but pretty average now. In the 1930s my family in Wales would send postcards like we send e-mails "Will be home for tea" and such like. I'm sure they had more than one delivery a day and they were out in the country on a farm!

Last collection in all the pillar boxes within walking distance of our house is 9.15 a.m. We have to remember to post birthday cards 2 days in advance.

Two collections a day where I am. 12noon and 4.30pm being the last. No collections on a Sunday but I do remember when there were.

A few days ago an episode of 'Flog it' was on and a lady was selling a postcard collection a relative had made in their courting days pre. WW1. He posted the card in the morning and she would get it by lunchtime!

If anyone wants something to arrive by the Monday morning, surely they would post it to catch the Friday pick up, at the latest. Unless it's Christmas, I would imagine the majority of more rural post boxes are almost empty of mail for the postman to collect on a daily basis.

Our nearest post box is emptied at 8am, but the one just down the hill not till 5pm. It’s annoying, but at least I get some exercise.

We were made to feel like relics of a byegone age in a Southport newsagent’s last week when we asked if they sold postcards. We found a few in the museum shop.

I felt quite sad they’re disappearing as our little grandsons love getting one addressed just to them.

last collection, 5.15pm Monday.
It seems that the Sunday collection stopped in 2007 so not all that long ago.

There were 2 deliveries a day when we moved here 40 years ago but then the milkman came (glass bottles), the newspaper was delivered and when we lived in Edinburgh, we even had the "cream boy" on a Saturday who also brought morning rolls.

A couple of years ago our pick up at the post boxes time was changed to 9.30am. I quite often see people rushing about 5.00pm or pulling up in cars trying to make the previous cut off time of 5.00pm!! Post boxes that are situated outside post offices are still at 5.00pm approx. I also remember the Sunday pick-up but that was changed and now the last pick-up is 4.00pm.
