Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)

I know a less polite version Kalu. wink

Kalu Wed 04-Mar-20 13:56:31

That was not meant for you Urmstongran

I did try to keep the thread on track but to no avail. Thought I had killed the thread with no response then it appears to have been derailed!

Her heid’s oot the windae ya daftie.

Marydoll Wed 04-Mar-20 13:37:18

Haud yer wheest! Probably more appropriate!

Jane10 Wed 04-Mar-20 13:32:46

'Awa an bile yer heid'! Also good.

Elegran Wed 04-Mar-20 13:20:41

Och, awa' an' ca' yer gird!

Kalu Wed 04-Mar-20 13:07:14

Why should Elegran or any other Scottish gran drop a perfectly good proper Scots word as opposed to a proper English word Rufus?

Here on GN we often clarify local colloquialisms/language and so far, no one has made any complaint, just find it interesting.

Jane10 Wed 04-Mar-20 12:52:40

Hoi Rufus2 clype is a brilliant word. Just imagine hissing 'ya wee clype!' to a telltale. My eyes narrow just thinking it!

Elegran Wed 04-Mar-20 12:46:59

Are you planning to drop the ooroo in favour of standard English in return?

Rufus2 Wed 04-Mar-20 12:38:33

I was being general
Elegran Crikey! So everyone's guilty of clyping! No wonder teachers are always complaining of overload!
No!..I don't have to try and earn criticism; I can cop it from "the same old faces" whenever I post, as you well know! grin
And please can we drop "clype" and speak proper English like what I learned at school? It's an ugly looking word, reminding me of a certain disease! sad

Elegran Wed 04-Mar-20 11:49:40

I've just noticed that you think I was referring to you in my post about clyping to teacher, Rufus. Strangely enough I wasn't, in spite of your best efforts to earn criticism and rise up the naughty ladder. I was being general.

There are plenty of people ready to poke other posters while whinging the moment they feel that others are being challenging to them, without picking out anyone in particular.

Rufus2 Wed 04-Mar-20 11:19:05

Me and Rufus2 will shuffle up and make room for you on the naughty step
Jane It's a seat so shove over as we may be having to make room for Fatgran! grin Tip Grandad off the end as I'd prefer to be the thorn between two lovely roses! blush

What a great post Lorelei!!

curvygran950 Tue 03-Mar-20 17:24:31

Lovely post Lorelei , I was just checking this thread to see if anything had changed and it has!
This is one of the most thoughtful, kind and welcoming posts I have seen for a while.
Thank you!

Jane10 Tue 03-Mar-20 16:55:58

Lo it's a miracle the thread has come back to life!

Lorelei Tue 03-Mar-20 15:27:53

As it seems all of the posts above mine have had positive comments from other posters I would just like to thank @Urmstongran for starting this thread. It has been a lovely thread and one of the few I have ploughed my way through every page of - amazing how we can all find at least one nice thing to say about another person - for the most part I'd say a successful thread (with a few giggles and grenades thrown in). I don't enjoy good health and therefore don't post very often, so doubt my name will be familiar. When I do post it is usually relating to something I have personal experience of or can relate to (health, life, death etc) or when I feel able to offer a few words of support or comfort. Many of you have given me food for thought or laughs with the topics you talk about and I am often touched by the compassion we can show towards Gransnet members who are struggling, grieving, in pain or generally finding life hard. There are some of you I feel a strong sense of empathy with. I celebrate that we can hold different views, have constructive disagreements at times yet come together as a community when one of 'our own' need us. I would be disappointed in myself if I upset anybody with things I write and hope I would shut the hell up if I couldn't think of anything nice to say. I think the internet, and social media in particular, has been good for most but has also given a few people bad experiences or left them feeling less than welcome, fragile or sensitive - maybe we could all take that extra moment to think how we word things before public posts. Thanks again for an entertaining, kind, thoughtful and interesting thread Urmstongran.

Kalu Tue 03-Mar-20 15:06:13

Aww! Thanks Jane?

Fear less, hope more.
Whine less, breathe more.
Talk less, say more.
Hate less, love more
And all good things are yours.

RIP thread

Kalu Tue 03-Mar-20 14:04:14

Oh god. Please don’t tell me I have killed this thread ??‍♀️

Kalu Tue 03-Mar-20 12:10:30

Kind of you to give me a mention Marydoll, thank you. I couldn’t wish for a better near neighbour. Such a lovely, friendly lady who enjoys blethering every bit as much as I do.?

The Gnetter whose posts I have enjoyed for years now is Baggs. Always gives a lot of thought to which ever subject is being discussed even takes time to clarify to those who don’t quite get it! Another caring lady and I have learned a good few interesting facts from her.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Mar-20 11:53:45

I know gillybob but I have never seen a poster called billybob I am confusedconfused

Charleygirl5 Tue 03-Mar-20 11:39:55

Rufus It was a technical reason I had to change my name and I was not allowed to use 15 again. I am afraid technology is beyond me. Look after yourself and I hope you are enjoying the sunshine. I am here also but not with the 2C tagging along!

Rufus2 Tue 03-Mar-20 11:36:00

Considering your advanced age you have a very good memory
Charleygirl 5 Thank you! I've found being on Gransnet has done wonders for honing it! As JFK said, he forgets faces, but never names! Something like that!
Now if I'd something like your quote I'd have been dumped on by somebody else for patronising! sad
I had intended to PM you about something you said, but Marydoll informed us on more than one occasion that she had told members of her Clan to block my PMs, so as Basil said to Sybil "that particular avenue (of enjoyment) has been cut off" So I've not even tried and I'm not even going to ask why you had to remove your digit!
