Do you use buses?

I live in a Sussex village of around 10,000 people & we only have one bus an hour between towns, daytimes, & none evenings, Sundays or Bank Holidays. I use these buses at least twice a day & would love a more frequent service, as would lots of us regular passengers. It's a long route for the drivers & often late, sometimes doesn't turn up at all. I love my free OAP bus pass & dread having to pay fares.

When little one flew the nest, I downsized. I looked for a new job in a new area. Found a job, then had to find somewhere to live. My house hunting criteria were near shops, near train station, near bus routes - so I live in a town centre. Now I'm retired, I'm grateful to the retirees who taught me.

.... used to live in London ....absolutely NO reason anyone should drive there . Massive range of all kinds of transport , who’d bother!

I am a regular bus user, and trains. Where I live now we have buses every 20 mins, and another bus service from a different stop every 20 mins. The last bus is 11ish pm. Where I used to live we had buses every 40 minutes that stopped running at 8pm every evening.
I have had some interesting conversations waiting for the bus and find it a sociable experience. I'm glad I don't have to park. The bus pass is wonderful - not only locally but I use it to travel across London. I hope they don't take it away.
I also have a senior rail card that pays for itself very quickly.

I have a great bus service ....one every 12 minutes...although occasionally they one won't turn up , but we all know this so we always give ourselves a 2-bus space for Hospital apps. it stops right outside . Use at least 12 buses a week taking and fetching kids to school. Rest of time I walk or bike...for long journeys I use the train ...which I also get free , as husband used to drive the them for a living ...small compensation for all that shift work and overtime resulting in binned dinners!!

Living in south London we are penalised every which way if we try to drive - high parking. Badges, congestion charges, long traffic queues so buses and tubes and trains it is - the buses however are crowded and I do get sick of very loud speaking people having their mobile phone conversations and not giving a thought to the fact that the person three seats away doesn’t want to hear them

We are so very rural where we are in the fens so don't have a bus service at all. Nearest bus stop is 2 miles away so we use the car when we need to go anywhere.

we are lucky we are supposed to have a 10 minute service during the day but often we get 3 buses together, what with road works and railway crossings, but in the evening not so good I can get to the nearby town but not back again no good if you want to go to the Theatre or Cinema, the village just north only gets one bus an hour, none in the evening, Sundays or bank holidays,

Im a people watcher and use the bus regular. I like the character of the bus community and u can learn a lot from conversations of your area. Whats going on they are in the know

As I travel for free on buses I'm a regular user. Although sometimes it does make me lazier,

In Cumbria I use buses, they run every half hour but finish at 6pm, which is a nuisance if you dont have a car,there are no buses on Sundays either.
It is a rural bus service they are often late but you do have to be at the stop in time, in case they are on time.The drivers are friendly, polite and helpful.The other passengers, mainly retired people, are also frienldy and chatty I love using the bus and have become friends with fellow passsengers.We need to use the bus service or there wont be one for much longer.

I live in a small town 17 miles from Oxford. We have an excellent bus service, which I use regularly. My bus pass saves me a fortune. The villages surrounding my home are not so fortunate as bus services were cut several years ago. I understand there is a Community bus, but this has to be booked in advance.

I rarely use buses. They only run every half hour, or so. The standard bus goes all round the villages and takes ages to get to our local town or city, and the express bus stop is quite a long walk away.

The car is definitely much handier!

The only bus I use regularly is the park and ride. Local bus services are down to 1 an hour from about 6.30 am to 6.30 pm, none at the weekend. There is also one that goes to the hospital via a roundabout route but only 4 per weekday, so appointments need to coincide to make it viable. We are confined to barracks at the weekend unless we own cars.

I wish I could use buses, but I can't. Just the thought of being cooped up inside a shaking, rattling and rolling tin can with a load of strangers gives me the horrors. Give me a train any day where you can get up and walk about if necessary.

I have to use the buses daily for work..I have to get my first bus at 4.40 am and luckily I can rely on it but as the day goes on the service gets worse and they start missing buses out or their really late so by the time I'm going home its potluck that I get the bus I need to get to the bus stop I need to get my second bus! I hate it so much but no other alternative!

I have a car but use the buses more. I have arthritis and find the walk to the bus stop is good for me. I have a bus service that is excellent, every ten minutes and free with my pass and do not then have the worry of finding a space to park in. I also find the bus is sociable. I usually know someone or hold a conversation with someone on the bus which passes the time nicely.

Yes occasionally when we’re at home. When we meet up with friends in different places we all use the bus, it saves the problem of who drives, where to park and the cost of parking. Can’t use it for work as it’s a very early start, two buses and a half mile walk with a 20 minute wait between the buses. OK in the summer but not fun in the pouring rain.

Three months to go until my bus pass! I am worried it will make me lazy when I can get a bus into town for free, will I feel motivated to do the 20 minute walk?
(I have a car as well, but I don't use it if there is a bus or I can walk)

Will do when I’m eligible for my bus pass in August this year, a friend and I intend to use it a to make up for waiting so long for our pension LOL.

Where I am I have to drive to get a bus so I don't use buses other than park and ride into Cambridge occasionally. Parking in Cambridge is expensive.

Sometimes. We're fortunate to have a good bus service here during the day but it stops around 8pm so if we bus out have to taxi back.

No, never use a bus. Still drive and one of the best life skills I ever learnt.

I use buses quite a bit as I use an electric wheelchair and I can't get it into my car. If I use my car, I struggle to get around wherever I'm going, but the buses are mostly great round here and for disabled people there can be a lifeline.
