Gas cooker or electric which do you prefer

I have an electric hob and oven. Whenever I use a gas one (at my mum's, or on holidays) I ALWAYS come home with a burn or two and have also been known to catch my sleeve on the lighted gas hob or even my hair! ( I was bending over to put something in the oven with the hob on). I am the Frank Spenser of gas hobs! I also find it easier to adjust the electric hob as it has numbers to adjust it, rather than guess work to the gas going to far up or too far down. It's easier to clean to without the gas burners etc, just a flat top to wipe over. With my electric oven it turns itself off once the timer finishes....perfect if you have had to pop out.

I only had an electric cooker once many years ago and I did not like it. Always use gas cooker and it is so much more economical than electric. I have just bought a new gas cooker as last one was on it's last legs, so cleaning is super at the moment the cooker is sparkling new.

Just had a new fire built in. My research and advisors from all sides informed me that electric is the way to go. Very pleased with my new electric acquisition even though I set out very much with gas in mind. I've only had my lovely replacement boiler for a year so I hope the government is not too rigid with the phasing out plan.

Gas hob, electric oven, used to have a gas oven years ago but would never go back, we are in need of a new kitchen again, reading some of these comments I may think about electric hob, also these self cleaning electric ovens, do you need to do it after every use, mine was supposed to be self cleaning where you turned it on high after use but to be honest wasn't very good, hopefully things have moved on since we last changed our oven (about 20 years ago), would love an aga but no way would my pennies ever run to one

I’ve had my induction hob for a couple of years now. I was always happy with gas and electric oven. But, now I just love my induction hob. I wouldn’t go back to gas... it’s extremely responsive and so easy to clean. It uses very little energy with a good set of pans. Cast iron works a treat but very heavy. Just love it!

Have gas hob - instant heat and quick reaction, but electric oven - really miss my Carron Cordon Blue cooker from last house.

It took me some time to get used to my induction hob but now I wouldn't willingy go back to any other. It also took me some time to realise that one of the best things about it is that it doesn't actually get hot except where it touches the pan so that you are never 'slaving over a hot stove'.

My daughter is raving a bout her new induction hob and she has been used to cooking with gas.
I'm afraid my range will need to see me out. However, I love it anyway, because it has two gas ovens, one fan assisted and five burners, including a wok one.
I have lusted over this for over forty years.

Absolutely it would get hot enough to stir fry Phloembundle; my induction hob has settings from 1 - 9, plus a super hot setting on two of the rings. And mine isn't a top of the range one either.

I have a free standing dual fuel cooker - gas hob, electric grill and mini oven and full size fan oven. I love it and when I move will take it with me if my new house doesn't have a built in one. I was always a fan of gas until I had a fan oven - so much better than gas ovens as they heat up so quickly. Unfortunately it isn't self cleaning and is currently in need of a major clean

Only ever used gas (loved it) until we moved here, but there is no gas in this village so we're all electric. I'm getting used to it. Only inconvenient when there are power cuts in bad weather.

Induction hob and pyrolytic oven are my perfect combo.

I'm stuck with all electric. There's no gas here unless you want bottled, which I don't. I'm happy with the electric hob but wish I could have a gas oven - I've struggled to make decent bread in the electric one.

I soak my oven racks in washing soda. However, I'm firmly of the opinion that most hobs and ovens, of whatever sort, have so many fiddly bits that they must have been designed by people who have never had to clean one! They are getting better, though...

We also have a self cleaning electric oven.

GrannySomerset cleaning racks is also a doddle if you use Oven Pride. Leave overnight and clean off in soapy water. With very little effort they come up like new

I'm with Auntieflo. I really dislike my stainless steel hob. I've said before, the stainless steel hob and ovens came as the package in our new built bungalow. They scratch so easily, though I am really careful, and don't look clean for long. I left my eighteen year old white hob behind, still looking as new.

Always preferred gas, but as we don't have gas & bottles are too heavy to lug about we have an induction hob & electric fan oven. Induction is as close to gas as you can get, very controllable & clean. Totally converted.

Agree with SueDonim -I changed to an induction hob some time ago and it is great - so much faster, easier to control by a simple touch of the finger and easy to clean. I also have an electric oven.

I've got gas all round. Tried electric and can't get on with it.
Unless your electric is solar powered, it costs 4 times more to cook with.
I've never had a problem cleaning, either.

Electric. Always had electric except once. Much cleaner.

Gas hob, electric fan double oven underneath. Sadly, unlike previous one, my new, fairly inexpensive fan oven is too close to the floor. The ovens ought to be the other way round.
Or do other people use the non-fan oven usually?

I like my electric oven, and have used both gas and electric hobs. My preference is for an electric hob. Easier to clean and when you get used to it, modern ones are very responsive.

I also have a gas hob and electric fan oven. Love it - best of both worlds.

Living 'off grid' and relying on a bank of leisure batteries an electric oven (or most other things that heat up) is out of the question so we have a LPG gas cooker. That's the only gas appliance that we have and a tall, 19kg bottle of LPG lasts us up to 4 months and costs £32 from Flogas.

Gas hob and electric oven ...then when one goes off...you can still cook a meal. Oh and wound never be without a microwave. Had oncecsince they first appeared ...massive big box of a thing!
