I had my first child at 21 And loved every minute, even though I remember coming home from hospital after a week and thinking oh my goodness I hope I can do this, lol

My first born was at 21 (almost 22)my second was a year later when I’d turned 23 my 3 was when I was 25. 4 th was when I was 33 and 5th at 34 - the difference in energy levels between twenties and thirties was very noticeable to me!!!

Married at 21, first baby when I was 25, second when I was 30 - went back to teaching a regular weekly evening keep fit class in the area where we were living when our first was about 6 months old. In hindsight it was one of the best things I ever did. .....husband was in sole charge of our baby son (if only for an hour and a half a week) I got back into regular exercise and also enjoyed the social break with other like minded young mums. It was the start of a lifetime habit which has paid such dividends in the quality of my life over the years. Now, at the age of 77, I weigh just 6lbs more than I did when I was 21 and still feel strong and healthy. It’s a good feeling to still have the energy and desire to be out there supporting our five grandkids when they play in their team sports.

Married at 25 first daughter at 26. I was horrified to be told I was classed as elderly to have a first baby. I had my second at 29.. I was a nurse so I was used to looking after helpless babies and adults.

* Braganza* I’m sure they are a joy to you, I’m amazed at your stamina.
I guess that with hindsight numbers might have been adjusted but they were different times weren’t they?
I’m sure you are very proud of your family.

Braganza Sat 29-Feb-20 13:53:48

1st at 17, 2nd at 18, 3rd at 22, 4th at 23, 5th at 24, 6th at 30, 7th at 32, 3 miscarriages, 8th at 35, 9th at 38!!!
This was an amazing experience, although we were always skint. Looking from the perspective of current population and climate thinking, I couldn't possibly justify my behaviour.

I was married at 18 and my first daughter arrived at 19 years and the second daughter, prematurely, at 20 years. I was a military wife living in Singapore when I had my first and there was no follow ups whatsoever but I was so happy and instinct kicked in. When my children were young were the very best days of my life. The marriage didn’t survive but we separated, fairly amicably, when the girls became independent. At the age of 40 I was single with no dependents and it suited me and I’ve remained single with my 2 daughters becoming my best friends. Financially it’s been tough but I always managed without going into debt but now my 70th birthday is on the horizon and I intend making changes but I have never, ever, regretted being such a young mother.

Married at 30, first baby at 31. Second baby at 33. Granny at 59. My daughter in law’s mum is 39!!!

Wow. Everyone was so young back in the day. Married at 22, divorced at 25. Then worked as cabin crew and saw the world for 8 years. Then 2nd marriage and babies at 33 and 36. At the school gate most mums of my children's friends were much younger. However, having babies in your 30s is the normal now!

Married at24 first baby at 26- far too young and immature as I had never even held a baby before and didn’t like them very much! However I loved children and as we all grew older together I felt very blessed.

Married just after my 20th birthday & had my first son at 22- a month before my 23rd birthday. Had another son nearly 3 years later. Got my tubes clamped at 30 as I knew I would not want any more children- they would not cut them as they said I was too young & I might change my mind! I wonder if they would have said the same to my husband if he had been the one to have the snip.

41 with my first, second one was not entirely expected at 45. Too knackered to consider any more.

Married at 23, first child at 24, miscarriage at 25. Am now almost 80 and feel I am now at the best stage to be a parent. At 24 I just "did it", whatever was necessary at the time. Not till much much later that I thought about what could have done a better job. But he (son) has turned out very well.

Married at 21. Did all the foreign travel, partying etc., settling into our own house and generally enjoying life until we were ready for a family. Had first child at 28 (labelled “Elderly Prima Gravida” on my hospital notes too!). Second child at 30, third at 32, then finally the fourth at 38.

I noticed that with the first one I was the oldest mother in the ward, but with the second and third I was amongst the younger ones, and definitely with the fourth child I was the youngest mother in the ward, at 38! It just goes to show that women were definitely putting off having families until later in order to pursue their careers in the late 80’s and 90’s.

Married at 23 and had first child at 27. We moved a lot so waited until we were settled. I was a teacher and always said that I’d had enough of children all day. Didn’t want any but then couldn’t get a job on a our final move. Suddenly felt broody and stopped taking the pill and that was that!

Aepgirl Sat 29-Feb-20 11:45:30

I had my first, and only, child at 31. I married at 26, and we were happy for nature to take its course. Much less stressful than taking temperatures, injecting, etc. I was also happy to be a stay-at-home mum - difficult financially, but so worthwhile.

LadyAnn Sat 29-Feb-20 11:39:29

Married at 21 precious daughter born when I was 29. Didn’t want children then changed my mind (so glad I did). Got pregnant instantly. I was called an “elderly prune” nice!

HurdyGurdy Sat 29-Feb-20 11:28:04

27. And was mortified to be described as "an elderly prima gravida" grin

BusterTank Sat 29-Feb-20 11:09:47
