Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus

Happy Saint David’s Day

Chewbacca Sun 01-Mar-20 17:44:17

A belated Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus!

I've just been given 3 bunches of daffodils and a leek, so I'm well pleased!

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 18:00:17

Chestnut. Lovely to see the flag, I couldn’t put mine in the
garden today, rain , rain, rain

Happy St. David's day everyone - a tad belated I know ! Just been listening to Myfanwy, which was one of our picks at our wedding 40 years ago - never fails to bring a tear to my eye ?

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 18:27:10

Myfanwy does it every time, ? , it is so beautiful.

Chestnut Sun 01-Mar-20 18:38:39

These images make me feel homesick
(even though I'm at home!)
I love the Welsh costume.

BBbevan Sun 01-Mar-20 18:39:15

My daughter had a male voice choir at her wedding. Her one stipulation was that they didn’t sing Myfanwy. Her Grampa used to sing it when he was alive. We had enough tears without that, lovely though it is

Marydoll Sun 01-Mar-20 18:39:32

I'm a bit late posting, but best wishes to all Welsh grans. I hadn't realised it was 1st March.
My father would have been 114 today if he had still been alive.

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 18:44:56

Chestnut it’s hiraeth, one doesn’t have to leave Wales to
feel it.

Cherrytree59 Sun 01-Mar-20 18:57:32

Apologies to annie and all the lovely Welsh gransnetters.

A bit late in the day to wish you all A Happy St David's Day.
So I will wish you all a pleasant St David's Evening instead.

I must be the only person who detests Myfanwy.

However O Gymru gets me every time....

Susan56 Sun 01-Mar-20 19:13:10

Annie,Worms Head is one of our favourite places. He is from Llanelli,we used to go quite often but haven’t been the last couple of years due to various health issues but one day??
My granddaughters school are dressing in their costumes on Tuesday but persuaded her to dress up for you.
Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus to Annie and all Welsh grans.x

LadyGracie Sun 01-Mar-20 19:24:02

I wore my daffodil and loved my little GD in her little outfit, minus the bonnet. Nothing could persuade her to wear it.

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 19:39:23

Susan what a beautiful surprise , the little darlings

Please tell them ‘ Diolch Cariad hardd. - thank you beautiful

Susan56 how lovely. smile

I used to love it when my youngest DD and my DGD dressed up in their Welsh costumes but one is grown up and the others feel too grownup to wear one now.

Callistemon Sun 01-Mar-20 20:34:13

They didn't sing Sosban Fach on Friday, I was disappinted.

Must remember to have a word with the HT!

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 20:39:53

? Callistemon

Callistemon Sun 01-Mar-20 20:43:46

I may have to sing it to her though, just to explain it
grin
Beyond my capabilities.

But I do enjoy listening to it.

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 21:05:20

Best not to sing it in English , how will you explain -

‘Oh tuck it in Dai’
Oh tuck it in Dai’
‘I hate to see it out’

?

Callistemon Sun 01-Mar-20 22:19:22

grin
I'll sing it phonetically in Welsh, she won't understand that.

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 22:24:36

?, wise

Callistemon Sun 01-Mar-20 22:27:34

Perhaps I won't 'sing' though, on second thoughts.

It's not very melodious, I don't have a lovely Welsh singing voice.

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 22:35:09

Don’t need one for Sosban Fach , ? , march around or conduct with arms flinging around

Grandmafrench Sun 01-Mar-20 22:39:16

Hope you’ve had a very happy St David’s Day, Anniebach, and all your Little Saucepans were gleaming in some Spring sunshine. wink

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 22:44:58

Thank you, this thread has made it a very happy Saint David’s
Day
