So many posts in the kitchen and I feel it to be impossible to catch up or mention everybody so will just send (((hugs))) welcomes and to everyone. Dear soop your kitchen is clearly such a haven for so many of us!

I regularly watch Revelation tv and have just seen (an instagram I think) of Dr Jen Caudle giving a most encouraging message about coronavirus. If you google her name you can find it. It was all about just how many people are surviving it and there are other posts talking about how best to counter it.
I think most of us on GN are savvy enough to take great care of ourselves and each other. It is the folk on their own who need to have the reassurance of help being made available to them when needed. Hopefully everyone has a few telephone numbers they can use.
As for us, we have been told to go into isolation and as we were expecting it are well prepared. It is the fresh stuff which will be a problem a week or so along the way but I have asked for help and been promised it. The bin collection hasn't happened today which is an aspect I had not considered. I well remember the strikes in the late 1970s when the rubbish piled up everywhere and hope that will not happen again!

Our garden is showing such lovely signs of spring arriving with so many pretty flowers. Hopefully the sun will keep increasing and we can sit in the sun even if only for a short time, that will be so encouraging.

For the first time, I'll try to post a picture---don't know if it will work! It's Baker, now fit and well---and even more demanding than before his illness,but who cares? Not me.

Greyduster we both laughed at your post about the money laundering so a big thank you for sharing but have to say we would love to see the photo!

Hello the kitchen. I have spent a ridiculously sleepless night, interspersed during the two-odd hours I did get, with ridiculous dreams! Anyone know how to mend a broken spring in a sofa? No, me neither apparently!
Yesterday was, effectively, the last school run for us before lockdown. GS came home from school, though, and asked if he could play football in a friend’s garden, so I said if he ran it past his dad and he said okay, he could. I thought it would be a welcome distraction for him, especially since he had had the news that one of the boys in his football team had the virus, along with his mum. The boys were all together on Sunday and I think it spooked him a bit. I did as much as I could to reassure him that his friend would get over it and so would his mum, because young people did.?? I have promised, during my confinement, to make him a batch of Anzac biscuits (if I can get hold of the coconut!), and send them home with his dad, who will be calling in with shopping for us.
DH went to the bank yesterday and drew out some cash which I directed him to put into a plastic bag I gave him so that I could clean them before he put them in his wallet. I also made him wear latex gloves. He thought this completely ridiculous but did as he was told. I later wiped the notes down with antibac (it takes a surprisingly long time to disinfect £250 in ten pound notes!) and the sneaky beggar came in and took a photo (no I won’t post it on here - it’s truly horrible!) and sent it to our children with the caption “We have a money launderer in the family!” I thought about sending for the Leg of Lamb!
Duty calls! I will try and look in later, if I can stay awake long enough! TOYA.

Hello to everybody, and welcome to any newcomers (I am new myself) .... hope you are all keeping well, and to all those who are ill or who have poorly family, I hope things soon improve.

Thank you for all the lovely comments about Phoebe. She's a sweet-natured girl and a real tonic during self-confinement. Sadly both her brother and sister were run over at different times, and it took her a long time to adjust to being an "only child". She has needed a lot of TLC since those times, and of course has got bucketloads from me. She sends another photo of herself relaxing with her brother back in the day for all her fans.

A friend sent a text last night to say he has "a fluey thing". Fortunately I haven't seen him for 3 weeks so I think I am safe.

Like you, Izabella, I have friends stuck in various parts of the planet. Two friends who spend Jan - April in Spain in their motorhome flew back from Spain for a weekend to celebrate their granddaughter's 18th birthday, and now can't get back. Meanwhile their motorhome is still parked in Spain!!

Before my 9th birthday party, I put up a notice in our downstairs loo 'Do not use more than 3 sheets'. My poor parents were mortified and made me take it down before guests arrived. I thought I was doing the right thing as I had been told off for using too much toilet paper!
However, in the immortal words of the great Captain Pickard: 'Make it so'.

At the hospital yesterday I was asked if I was free on the 8th of April. I said as far as I knew I was free 7 days a week for at least the next 4 months and maybe beyond that. I did not have to consult my diary for once.

Sleep well everybody- Tara has been nagging me to go to bed for over an hour. I am now ready to have my annual shower and join her.

Thank goodness for the kitchen, our safe haven, no germs allowed and an endless supply of cake. I have given up chocolate for Lent so please help yourselves to carrot cake and lemon drizzle if you wish (sanitized hands before baking ?)

N&G it is difficult isn’t it. We are seeing our sons tomorrow before the lockdown really gets going. Holidays, meals and get together all cancelled but we will still try and get a walk every day just somewhere where we won’t meet anyone.
Going to have haircut Thursday. Probably last time for a while so better make it short ?
We have a few toilet rolls so I’ll put one in the kitchen en suite. Only 3 sheets per person so no cheating ?

Been absent from the kitchen for a few days so will hav e to do 2 lots of posting so I can see one page at a time.
cherrychez thank you for your hug. Yes it is disappointing to cancel plans but in the scheme of things, like those whose operations have been cancelled, not so very important.

A little late venturing into the kitchen due to my red hot phone today. We have friends and relatives stuck in various parts of the globe. Between calls I ventured to the local shop as I needed the PO to be greeted by a lovely notice on the door that free deliveries will be made to the over 70's plus a 10% discount. They had hand sanitizer so I purchased some for a neighbour. She was most grateful. And our GP surgery is closed for 1:1 contacts.

Some lovely humour upthread - thank you ladies. What we all need at the moment. CH has not broken anything but he has an MPhil. in being in the way in the kitchen. Wouldn't swop him though.

ann it would appear that you will be in luck as elective surgery is not stopping until some time in April. I will keep the fingers crossed.

I looked online for loo paper and Amazon are selling the jumbo rolls which some restaurants use. Judging from the size and number, one may probably never need to buy any again but it is a thought if really desperate. Your bank manager may be less than pleased because the price of some was outrageous.

My local pharmacy had notices in the window stating what they had for sale, face masks, sanitiser and sanitising wipes. Not cheap but a decent supply.

I may well stay clear of my local Waitrose because on Sunday it resembled a cattle market. I have a Tesco Extra where I can drive to for bread.

Sparkle Phoebe is beautiful and I think she knows it! Like Tara she collapses anywhere to have a well earned rest.

Evening All. Funny old day here, ventured out for provisions this morning, first supermarket virtually empty, the second one heaving. Neither had toilet paper. You could make a fortune renting out that bidet soop .

Just seen the owner of our nearest corner shop is offering a delivery service to anyone self isolating or in the at risk category. He’s happy to send someone with as little or as much as anyone needs. He did the same when the Beast from the East visited us, a good man.

I truly hope your surgery will go ahead ann. As smileless says kitty a later memorial service is always possible and would be a fitting if belated farewell.

Stay well everyone, please be sensible. A sincere hope that family members with the virus get well soon and a thought for all struggling with these very strange times.

Perhaps there'll be a memorial service at a later date if the numbers at the funeral are restricted kitty.

I had some jeans to take back to m&s today and thought I'd buy some jogging bottoms for the duration. We went to our large out of town store and could park right outside the door. There were hardly any customers and, worst of all, no joggers!

It is our neighbours funeral next week - I wonder if that will go ahead. It would seem awful to live 75 years and not have a proper farewell.
