Well, he’s finally done it, thank goodness!
Good Morning Friday 17th April 2026
Mandelson failed security vetting. Starmer says he didn’t know
Here we are again...happy as can be...all good friens and jolly good company.
and (hugs) a plenty.
Well, he’s finally done it, thank goodness!
Galen- Amen to that!
I have not been out since last Tuesday but I had to go ut today- Waitrose was silly, Young men hanging around and chatting.
That should be my lot for a while. I also had to pick up a click and collect from eBay.
I do worry about 3 of my Macular friends, none is computer literate and each is registered blind. I cannot and would not visit any of them.
Tara came screaming in the cat flap earlier. The ginger bully was attempting to get in as usual but by screaming she knows I will help her by chasing that monster away. 2 years and he still has not figured, thankfully how to get in.
Welcome GranMarie.

Hello lovely kitchen people. Hope you are not overdoing things, Soop - in looking after so many others, it's too easy to forget self care. Remember,
and
and a comfy chair, often !
Brilliant skies today but cold wind. My DH went out shopping for the first time in a week. Wonder why we never thought of a supermarket delivery or an Arrive and Drive thru' to pick up orders? Anyway, after that lightbulb moment this morning we found no slots until after 1st April. So, off he went. It was very quiet, lots of food to buy, only 5 people calmly waiting to be let in one at a time into the supermarket as others left. Not stopped by any Gendarmes but he had his form completed and he never forgot his latex gloves and promised not to speak to anyone we might know, so that he didn't have to keep moving backwards
. Only disappointment was cat litter. I sympathise with you Charleygirl - one of our cats has recently developed an age-related kidney problem. He has the drugs, the new diet, and is putting weight back on but he can now pee for France, England and any other country of interest. So he gets through 2 big cat litter trays per day but is otherwise full of beans and spent some time outside chasing frogs this morning! He will "go" outdoors, but does like his comfort, so we get through tons of cat litter.
(Thankfully he doesn't use toilet rolls ! )
Fortunately, we have plenty in reserve - for now.
Hope that BJ's decision to do something positive to stem the scourge that is threatening all of us will save the NHS and too many lives in time. Wishing you all good health and keep safe everyone. It's so lovely to read your comments. Warm hugs (((((())))) from the Med', sleep well, don't worry.
Well, I went out of my front door for the first time since the beginning of January. I sat in the sun for 1/2 hour. It was lovely although the east wind took the edge off the temperature.
I then walked to the end of my drive and exchanged shouts my diagonally opposite deaf neighbour who was weeding her front garden. Walked back to the house and sat down exhausted!
I’m not used to this violent exercise!
Gary and Kate have decided to stop working except for me as a disabled vulnerable person. Aren’t they lovely?
TOYA I am thinking and praying for all of you in need of prayers.
Nightie Night, I am tired and extremely emotional, thank you kitcheners for being here
Not sure what I feel tonight. Scared, worried, relieved in equal parts I think. We can do this! That was my mantra where I worked some years ago, I’m bringing it out of retirement,
Hello granmarie, the cake seems to have gone so I can’t encourage you to help yourself, there’s bound to be some around tomorrow though.
Only went out for a walk today, tomorrow I have to get in the pharmacy queue for repeat prescriptions. Being more mature Mr C will be firmly told to stay home. We will walk later, so lucky to have quiet paths along the river.
Hope you can settle grannyg, I’m sorry you’re upset, sleep may help.
TOYA and just be careful out there everyone. I did love Hill Street Blues
.
Well, I`m doing my best to obey the rules, but self isolating is difficult when carers are here twice a day for my daughter. My granddaughter also lives here, and is toing and froing all the time, but at the moment she`s away in York with her boyfriend, although they`re probably a bit limited in places to go and things to do. My family were all here over the weekend at various times. Youngest son brought me bleach and washing up liquid, one grandson brought bread and milk, eldest son brought chocolates, youngest daughter 2 books, middle daughter cakes, and flowers delivered from Lynne. My granddaughter went looking for cheese and eggs, just managed 6 eggs, and today one DIL brought me a loaf of bread.
The earliest delivery available from Tesco was April 23rd, April 10th for click and collect, but I`ve managed to get a delivery slot with Morrisons for April 5th. I will need more shopping in the interim, so daughter 2 is either taking me or doing it for me on Thursday. Lynne has a hospital appointment on Friday, at the moment it still stands, but we may have to cancel as the taxis are rumoured to be stopping.
You all seem to be coping admirably, much better, I`m sure, than I will.
I love the blue tit Soop, they`re such pretty little birds.
In November my TV packed up and had to be replaced, as did my vacuum cleaner, last week it was the turn of the fridge freezer, and this weekend my laptop decided to play silly buggers. At this rate I`ll soon be on the bread line, if there`s any bread to create a line, lol!
Oh sorry, nearly forgot my manners! Welcome GranMarie!
TOYA xx
?? Granmarie. There is a banana and date cake on the side - not quite enough bananas left! I like it though ?.
I too don’t know what to feel - scared, worried, relieved? I need to have the ‘what if’ conversation with DH but don’t know when to. Would he cope? Will he stay here? What will he do with all my knitting wool??
No cartoons tonight I am afraid - too much bad language in them!
TOYA
Welcome Grannmarie, your pictures have made me chuckle.
I have been reading but must get some sleep or I will be good for nothing in the morning. I have put some fruit to soak in tea and brandy overnight, it is an Irish Barm Brack. The recipe calls for whiskey ( the clue is in the name ? ) but DH refused to hand over his dwindling supply. He is in the norty corner.

So, a text and a phone call later we find we are on a vulnerable register and will be included in some sort of hub. Told we must self isolate and CH about to join Mr Lins in the nortycorner as he thinks he will pop out to the shops!
CH thought I was mad removing my rings until I pointed out I cannot wash my hands thoroughly with them on. Ah well, I shall go and press some seeds into the warm(ish) earth with the aim of doing something productive.
Keep safe everyone.
Feeling a bit more together today, although it's hard having two little GC in the house and not being able to cuddle them or get close, 5 more days till that is possible.
My default wake up time seems to be 4am at the moment, I keep thinking that at least from Sunday it will be 5am
.
Keep safe and well.
This situation we're all in means that we need to show ingenuity to feed our families now that there seems to be no way to get supermarket deliveries. I'm now getting potatoes, carrots and eggs delivered by the local animal feed store and bread flour straight from a mill. No yeast available, so I'm making a sourdough starter from the yeast in the air! Home-made bread and veg. soup will keep us going..
Like you Izabella, off out to plant some more seeds.
TOYA who are worried or alone. Keep well.
I have just this minute strolled into our kitchen. I am touched by the many lovely comments regarding our wee haven. Thank you so much for your kindness. It works both ways. I was feeling a tad lost and lonely when I first joined Gransnet. Not now. I regard you lot as proper friends. We've shared a lot over the years. Not all "fluffy stuff" but many serious problems that needed to be aired and shared. That's what we're here for. That's what we shall continue to do for each other.
Thank you soop. You are an inspiration to us all with your kindness and wisdom.
It's confirmed. We two are housebound for the foreseeable. It's for our own good and the good of others. No cause for complaint. A neighbour collected my prescription from the village shop and left four freshly baked croissants in foil just inside the porch. On Friday, the same neighbour will do the supermarket shop for us. We are truly grateful. The GP's wife phoned to ask whether we needed anything yesterday. I am hoping that all of you are receiving the support you need and deserve.
Hello again, nice to pop in to Soop's amazing kitchen again.
I've been in my own kitchen, chicken broth on the hob and chicken curry in my new slow cooker.
It has a blackboard surface so you can write what's cooking
I wonder what's cooking in your kitchens?
Glad to hear that you have a lovely local support network, Soop, cos you have created such a welcoming virtual support network in your open all hours kitchen.
Trying to keep busy, avoid worrying... going to hang out some washing now!
Thank you Lins and all from yesterday for the welcome.
Love to all
Grandmafrench I am trawling through a John Connolly 'Charley Parker' thriller. It is a very well crafted story. So well crafted, I need to re-cap every few pages because I lose the plot.
With each reading, I drink
. like your pussy cat, I need many more wees as a result.
Do you have a photo of your cat? What's his name?
Galen Good neighbours are priceless. Ours could not be more supportive. Kindness personified.
GrannyGravy We shall overcome. I am sending you a huge virtual (hug). You are not alone.
callgirl1 You, lovely lady, are inspirational. You have a great deal to contend with. Thankfully, you have a super supportive family.
Nannytopsy
in abundance.
Granmarie That is the dearest little piggy. Makes me smile.
Lins1066 MacSporran is guarding his dwindling supply of malt. Like your dear husband, he would most certainly refuse to have it used to enhance edible stuff and nonsense. I shall sample some of your Irish Barm Brack minus the whisky and I ask you, very nicely, to allow Mr Lins together with Mr Izabella to vacate the norty corner. It sounds like a number of our husbands are gathering there. No telling what mischief they'll get up to.
I too have had the text telling me to stay in. My DH must also stay in so it could be a problem. I wish with all this time on my hand I had the energy to do stuff! Hi
Izabella Planting seeds in the warm earth will indeed lift your spirits. Nature has healing vibes, something we all need a plentiful supply right now.
GrannyMarie I can almost smell the delicious aroma in your kitchen. MacSporran will be preparing a cottage pie later this afternoon. Since we retired, he has taken on the duty of cooking and I am the very important washer-upper.
dragonfly That is one cuddlesome, beautiful dog. What is his name? I could hug him all day long.
