What’s the first single you ever bought?

Confession - I can’t actually remember mine - though I do remember the first single I ever owned...Puppy Love by Donny Osmond (and I was most peeved because my brother got Long Haired Lover from Liverpool by Jimmy Osmond and I’d have much rather had that grin)

So wonderful, all those early 60s titles, ear worms galore smile I didn't get much pocket money so remember hoping really hard that I'd get record tokens for birthday and Christmas presents!

Cast your fate to the wind by Sounds Orchestral. Swiftly followed by With the Beatles.

Madmaggie Mon 09-Mar-20 14:55:25

It was Apache by The Shadows. And yes I did the footwork moves every time I played it with my imaginary guitar grin closely followed by Ruby Murray's Real Love. ?

First single brought was David Cassidy and had posters.

Sawsage2 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:50:15

'I got rhythm' by The Happenings. Still great song today.

I can’t remember mine either. I envy people who can remember things like this!

My mother bought a record player in a case for us early 60s and a record by Lonnie Donegan, an instrumental.I can't remember the name. That was the first single we had.

Marydoll I read your post about the Knorr factory with interest as only yesterday we had one of those packet soups as a very light lunch and I was wondering how they mechanically cut the veg so small!

'The Legend of Xanadu' by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Titch in 1968!

I am the same age as you Gillybob but was more of a David Cassidy fan.
Never had any money for records so made do with the radio.

Hi everyone hope you enjoy the chat. My first record was ‘ I Want You Back’ by The Jackson 5 . Way back when Michael was about 5

Granartisan Mon 09-Mar-20 13:52:39

My first record was Lonnie Donegans Putting on the Style. I guess I'm older than most of you!

Rock around the clock.

gillybob Mon 09-Mar-20 13:37:30

Sugar Sugar by the Archies for me too cavewoman . I still love it. I was born in 1962 so would have only been about 7 or 8.

I later fell head over heels in love with Donny Osmond and saved all my pocket money to buy all his records.

mamaa Mon 09-Mar-20 13:34:33

I can remember being excited buying both of these as starters to my singles collection - T.Rex 'Get it On', and R.Dean-Taylor 'There's a ghost in my house'...but cant remember which was first!

Hilltrudger24 Mon 09-Mar-20 13:33:08

I never had the money to buy singles, but I won Love on a Mountain Top, with and admission ticket to a disco once. It was a lovely soul record but I lost it somewhere along the way.

I was lucky enough not to have to buy singles.... my father worked in an industry where by he 'acquired ' the top ten every week ?. First album I bought was Blondie, Parallel Lines. And I still have it!!

Damdee Mon 09-Mar-20 13:20:27

Someone bought me Love Me Do by The Beatles. I think I was about 5 years old. I can't remember the first one I bought myself.
