By several people...to get rid of my pregnancy as I was in the early stages and then found out my son was autistic. We went ahead and although it was tough she brought us so much joy within a very difficult situation.

Said before my marriage to a man ten years my junior:

Don't marry him; it'll be fine when you're in your thirties and forties, but you'll grow apart when you're in your fifties and he's still only in his forties.

I didn't heed the advice and we've been extremely happily married for thirty three years. smile

SueLindsey I also went to the Court School of Dancing and met my husband of 52 years there. Not all bad advice. ????

"Trust me - it's a rock solid investment" (he later served 4 years for fraud and deception)

Leave school at 15, it's not important for girls to be educated! This from my mother who in later life trained to be a teacher!!!

Start smoking it will make boys like you more when i was 15 which was 48 years ago

From my mother....Women aren’t meant to enjoy sex. Just let him get on with it....?

cookiemonster66 Wed 11-Mar-20 12:32:03

my mum always said " men - they are only after ONE thing!" she NEVER told me what is was , even to this day???

Don't go into teaching, it's too tiring. I shall regret it to my dying day!!! I would have been a fabulous teacher.

My parents told me to go to the Court School of Dancing to learn the waltz and foxtrot as it would "come in useful in later
life". I'm 68 and it hasn't yet!!

He's a nice man........no, he was a shite!!

angie95 Wed 11-Mar-20 12:00:00

The worst piece of advice was from my mother, who told me to do hairdressing as "you make loads of money" no you don't! I hated it, I should of listened to myself and become a Librarian!

An “expert” once told me I needed to put a pipe from my (flooded) garden to the nearest drain....as this would have involved getting water to run uphill, I didn’t take his advice! confused

My mother told me it was a waste of time going to university as a mature student. I’m so glad I didn’t listen as I went on to have a fulfilling career that I wouldn’t have had without my degree.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 11-Mar-20 10:43:07

And a friend was told “ once you’ve married him, he’ll change”

He didn’t.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 11-Mar-20 10:41:16

‘It won’t matter’ closely followed by ‘no-one will notice’

Be careful!!!

...after you already tripped/bumped into something/fell over

This one does make me chuckle though on occasion! ( as long as it’s not me having the accident of course ) ?

Following on from our thread about the gems of good advice you've been offered, we thought we should explore the flip side too.

Trying to decide my own. So many. Will return!
