Do you dye your locks,

No more colouring for me. Changed from "full colour" to just highlights in my 60s, as my hair went greyer. Two years ago I gave up the highlights and was delighted to find that (by then) my natural hair colour (once a brunette) was a pleasant light grey/gold. Greyer now, but I think that when grey hair is well-managed it can look great. Now I am using only a "bar" shampoo, which I think is better for me - & for the planet.

I have boring mousy brown hair naturally with no grey to speak of yet (I'm 60 in 2 weeks) so I have half blonde and half brown highlights put in about twice a year because I don't get that harsh regrowth line. It blends in ?

I colour my hair sometimes as I feel younger when I look at it in the mirror and it makes me feel better. I'm 67.

I dye my white/light grey hair metallic silver. It really lifts and brightens it.

I used to dye my hair - all sorts of colours - but decided about 4 years ago to stop. My hair is now a lovely lightish brown with natural ‘pepper and salt’ streaks. I sometimes get asked where I get it done.

Yes, my hair is quite long and originally a gingery brown colour....would be mousy grey if I didn’t colour it every six weeks or so. Have never been able to find a nice gingery colour so have gone lighter. I use a colouring that doesn’t contain ammonia so no awful smell.Trying to delay the time when I need a hairdresser to do it! Perhaps I’ll just go short and grey then.

Started dyeing my hair when I was 16. I’ve been through every shade of black, blonde highlights, years of different shades of red, tried grey, deep blue and currently a rich dark purple... I had white hair as a toddler and through teens and twenties my hair was naturally dark blonde with a lot of red strands. As I grew older my natural colour became quite dark and now in late sixties it has grey, silver strands and a lot of dark hair under the purple

Gave up dying hair but now have streaks put in by hairdresser. I have red, copper & blonde in my medium brown hair. It is much easier as I no longer get roots showing to worry about.

Have been colouring mine for at least 20 years. Always go to the hairdressers; it's caramel with blonde highlights which I intend to keep on doing. I have no intention of having grey hair!

In 70. Coloured mine until I was 61. Nearly 35 year of doing it myself and then 3 weekly sessions at the hairdressers.

Took me about a year for the colour to disappear. Took hairdressers advice and did it gradually, I used to be dark brown

Love my grey hair and so do family and friends. Suits my skin colour now.

Eloethan The sun will fade the auburn highlights. I'm a natural redhead (ginger) and as that started to fade I had highlights to brighten my hair. Gold, blonde and red. It cost an arm and a leg and then I realised about the sun and stopped doing it. At the moment it's a dull colour but once the sun comes out it'll go strawberry blonde.

Colouring require a lot of maintenance and darker colours can be harsh against an aging skin so it might be better to go lighter. As regards the bright colours - Zandra Rhodes looks great with her pink hair and and beautiful clothes.

Being a hairdresser I have been many colours, not sure of my natural colour,but now will stay blonde forever?

I was naturally blond, I’m now totally grey but I have subtle highlights every 12 weeks to add a bit of interest.

I'm 4 months in growing my grey in and colour out . I had a graduated bob cut into it but it's grown long enough to scoop up and pile on the top of my head , so hides the divide a bit - hair cut tomorrow !

incidentally it's now the height of fashion for young people to colour their hair grey or silver. mostly in their 20s.
i see many walking by; as always, one can tell that it's dyed, but at least it shews some deference to seniority... maybe.

Sometimes. Highlights with foils. I have some grey in my hair but not so much that I have to do it all the time so I just have it done for a change now and again.

I am 66 and have coloured my hair for years. Stopped briefly once when I was ill and it was a horrible grey so started it again asap. I have it done at my lovely local hairdressers, dark blonde with lighter blonde highlights. I think it still looks good and I don’t care what other people think anyway! My friend is salt and pepper grey and I think it makes her look much older than she is but would never say that to her.

I dyed mine until 3 years ago, lost it all to chemo , I grew back in a love grey not an easy way to do it I must admit . I was at the hairdresser this week she said people are paying a fortune for hair my colour.

I've dyed mine for years it was naturally blonde but but always looked dull for some reason until I found "Nice&Easy" 103 they have changed the number nowadays.It took 2 x boxes of dye to do it all over until last week when I had 10 inches cut from the length so I have saved myself a few £s

I had my hair dyed a mid brown for years and then had a severe reaction to it. I then went for highlights but have now had a reaction to that. I had it done a couple of days ago and my head is sore and I have a severe rash over my arms, back, chest and tummy. That's it I will now have to go grey. I am peed off about it but there is nothing I can do. I have tried the dyes that are supposed to be anti allergy but they don't work either. Not particularly glad to be grey.

I got to thinking that nobody believed I really had brown or blonde hair and let it grow out. Such liberation! I can now put streaks of whatever whacky colour I fancy temporarily through my silver and it looks GREAT! Purple today but deep turquoise was a big hit the other week.

At 46, I was too young to dye my silver hair; and I have been every year since. Now, I am just pleased to have my hair. Being a silver top isn't so bad, at least for a Grandad.

The problem with dying hair is that it can lead to difficult questions. Last week, when my wife was bending over our grand-daughter's bath, the little one asked: 'Nanny, why is your hair growing a different colour on top?'
