Lots of people are cleaning like they never have before.

The shops are peaceful.

People are not spluttering in public.

People smile and nod as a greeting (not the grubby grab).

Greymar at all my grandchildren’s schools (and I have quite a few in different parts of the country ) they are all washing their hand on arrival, before playtime, before and after lunch and before leaving. Under supervision but all seem to be taking it seriously. Even my youngest granddaughter at 18 months has learnt to washer her hands. It’s good that they are getting into the habit.

Nobody is celebrating anything Greymar. You are being a wet blanket on what is supposed to be a more positive thread. Just looking for tiny shafts of sunlight can help raise the spirits.

Greymar Fri 13-Mar-20 10:57:05

So, let me get this right, a pandemic is sweeping the UK and we are to celebrate because we find a parking space?

BlueSky Fri 13-Mar-20 10:46:57

Same here Farview and Lucca with DC and DGC abroad I can't see any pluses only minuses. sad

To get back to silver linings, I think it's a silver lining that this virus doesn't kill off all the children. I feel great comfort in the fact that our grandchildren will not suffer.

marpau Fri 13-Mar-20 10:45:13

I am hoping the airport will be less busy on Sunday as we head off for 3 weeks. I would like to think virus has started to subside on our return.

Aepgirl Fri 13-Mar-20 10:44:59

Lighten up GNs. We’re all in this together. It will all pass and people will go back to their rude, sloppy ways and we will all find something else to grouch about.

pollyperkins Fri 13-Mar-20 10:42:11

I hesitate to say this and will probably be shot down but fewer flights must help the environment too. I am aware people are losing their jobs and holidays and seeing family but we have been talking about the need to cut down flying to help avert the climate crisis.

Bellanonna Fri 13-Mar-20 10:38:57

That sometimes isn’t difficult Lemongrove ?

SirChenjin Fri 13-Mar-20 10:35:46

I can’t comment on your local hospital but ours don’t have separate car parks for outpatients May, not do I know why your family and friends aren’t witnessing what we currently putting in place.

Thanks curvygran smile

Hi Sandelf just got back from Sainsbury weekly shop, must admit it was a breeze. There was few people shopping and staff looked like many more online shopping taking place. Shelves either empty or not stocked up. Got what we needed for a week and paid and left, best time ever. There was plenty of meat, maybe I should have panicked bought meat.

May7 Fri 13-Mar-20 10:32:47

Funny lemongrove I'll use that one grin

curvygran950 Fri 13-Mar-20 10:30:35

Don’t bow out SirChenjin, I agree so much with what you are posting. One of my sons is a front line doc in Australia and I’ve been having extremely similar views/comments/advice from him . You are absolutely right in what you are saying, keep it up please .

lemongrove Fri 13-Mar-20 10:29:19

Hiya Gabriella ? (waves) you seem to be enjoying life as usual, welcome back.

You know how they always used to say ( when in social situations) ‘cover a fart with a cough’ ?well, now we should
Cover a cough with a fart.

May7 Fri 13-Mar-20 10:28:51

As is your perogative but no it hasn't explained the empty parking spaces to me because outpatients was busy as usual. Many of my family and friends also work in hospitals and have not experienced the measures you have described. The point of this thread was to encourage posters to look for silver linings and you are not doing that
Maybe you should start your own thread?

SirChenjin Fri 13-Mar-20 10:21:43

It appears that I’m back. I hope my last post helped to explain the reasons behind the availability of car parking spaces smile

May7 Fri 13-Mar-20 10:15:57

Sirchenjin I thought you'd bowed out of this Silverlinings thread??

SirChenjin Fri 13-Mar-20 10:08:16

No they are not full of patients yet May - as well as the things you mentioned what you’re also seeing at the moment are things like clinics being cancelled due to staff self isolating, working from home or being relocated to other roles or as a preventative measure to free up capacity elsewhere, training that is required for future professional development being cancelled, that sort of thing. Being able to get a parking not a cause for celebration, it’s a sign that things are starting to take hold and preparations are really kicking in as we try and create as much capacity by flattening the curve.

Mal44 Fri 13-Mar-20 09:59:17

That really made me laugh Eglantine21 and we need to keep a sense of humour amidst all the gloom.

May7 Fri 13-Mar-20 09:56:25

...And here's another silver lining
I got a parking space in the hospital car park just maybe that's because people are now thinking carefully before coming to A&E with minor complaints or less people visiting patients and overwhelming them when they should be resting. Or less people visiting hospitals and bringing in their own kind of germs.
Because in fact the hospitals are not full of Coronavirus patients yet are they?

Greymar Fri 13-Mar-20 09:50:46

Is that a lead balloon I see Hetty?

Hetty58 Fri 13-Mar-20 09:48:38

I agree with SirChenjin that it's a very serious threat so find it hard to think of happy silver linings. Maybe, just maybe, though, people will think more about what they will vote for in future? Perhaps they'll realise that we desperately need properly funded health and social care services for all - with ring-fenced taxation?

Alexa Fri 13-Mar-20 09:43:09

And wearing hygienic and comfortable garments will encourage what, Greymar?

Alexa Fri 13-Mar-20 09:41:31

No, it was acute after all first impressions are often right goes to show

Alexa Fri 13-Mar-20 09:40:47

No,not acute, grave
