I have 2 GDs who are taking exams this year. One here and another in Spain. They have both worked so hard for years for their GCSEs and now everything is up in the air. The school in Spain closed last week after a pupil has been found positive and here the threat of school closure looms. Spain is now in lockdown. This uncertainty is a such a big deal for all pupils preparing for exams at all levels. Just think a few weeks ago all they had to worry about was revision. Now they don't even know if they will be at school next week let alone whether they will be able to sit their exams. I know a lot of people are having to deal with a lot more worrying things but it is a big deal for them and their futures. The younger ones just want some time off!

Yes, I have a DGC in the same position. The exams in Scotland start earlier, at the end of April, but so far the advice is to keep on with the revision. The universities are going to have to make some different arrangements about admissions. At least it will affect everyone, which in some ways is better than if you are taken ill and can't sit your exams while everyone else is sitting them.

It will be judged on their coursework and modules I expect if the exams don’t take place.

There is huge discussion in teacher forums about this.

I think what will happen is that they will be given their predicted grades. Unfortunately, this will benefit those with over confident teachers and disadvantage those who are harsh markers. I am one of the latter, but in my defence, that is because I'm an examiner.

If a student is seriously ill (as opposed to having a bug) that is what happens. This is an extraordinary circumstance.

I read an article which said they might make pupils doing GCSEs and A levels repeat the year again but I don't think this is reasonable or practical.

Yes, I know at one GD school they have been marked hard and expect to pull up a grade.
