Your treat for today

Just that really - please share one thing that you’re planning for the day to cheer yourself up in these trying times.

Could be anything from a bar of chocolate, glass of something lovely, arranging some freshly cut flowers from your garden or baking a cake to a freshly made bed, or even painting your toenails!

Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks (DH has just informed me I’m daft) as long as it puts a smile on your face!

So to start this off - yesterday I changed our bed and had the best night’s sleep! Today I’m going to make some banana bread as they’re really mottled in the fruit bowl - can’t tell you how many brownie points that gets in this house!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day back to all of you shamrock
Congrats on birthdays and anniversaries. flowers Mollygo, have you checked that out with your neighbours? grin

DanniRae Tue 17-Mar-20 14:36:37

My treat sounds a bit strange but I actually ironed a couple of pairs of trousers this morning so now I have a navy and a grey pair to wear instead of the eternal black jersey ones - (they don't need ironing) grin
This is a lovely thread - well done pantglas2 flowers

I am going to share some cherry and almond cake with my DH and DD at afternoon tea time. It was delicious yesterday so I am very much looking forward to another (largish) slice.

Happy shamrock Day everyone, even if, like me, you're not Irish or have ever been to Ireland, but one thing I know - the Irish certainly know how to party, and a party, even if it's only a virtual one, is something we need right nowgrin
I have what's quaintly called "underlying health conditions" so that + my age, squarely puts me in the 'at risk' category, so my contribution to the party is this- place a jar or small pan in a corner of the room, arm yourself with all the small change you have, and every time you hear "underlying health conditions" mentioned, lob a coin at the jarwink
This may take practice but we've all got time to improve!
And what shall we do with all this cash?
Well, I'd suggest we buy some cans of The Black Stuff with it, is what grin

Thank you for positive ideas. I went out for a short walk and saw white violets growing under an old hedgerow

Got up this morning, peered into bathroom mirror, decided hair looked a sight, rang my lovely hairdresser who had a free slot, showered and dashed to the shop - result. Feeling much perkier now and ready to tackle anything. Gardening I think - it's a lovely day, and the local nosy robin is out there 'helping' OH with the digging.

Lisagran, snap.
I have a jug just like yours, on a shelf in our porch. Perhaps I should fill it with muscari, but they last longer outside.

My treat for today was DSIL delivering the Roomba. I shall go and play with it later.

ChrissyW Tue 17-Mar-20 14:05:37

Just done a quick on line shop and added a box of Black Magic chox as a treat!

Candy6 Tue 17-Mar-20 14:02:08

I’ve been out for a walk with my dog and done a bit of shopping locally. Will take dog out again later. I really hope we’re not confined to indoors. Will be fine if I can get out to walk the dogs xx

I'll be delighted if the Gas engineer comes to repair my leaking heating boiler. If he doesn't come I'll be swimming in the kitchen.

Kittylester. Thank you so much for your link to museums and art galleries at google. This will be so appreciated both by us gransnetters and by school students stuck at home.

Just love banana bread, think I’ll have to make one now. I change up sultanas for chopped dates and walnuts. What do others do? New ideas always welcome. Stay well everyone.

Callistemon Tue 17-Mar-20 13:21:43

Found some eggs at the farm shop, everyone seemed quite relaxed in there smile

Mollygo Tue 17-Mar-20 13:19:49

Choir cancelled? and ukulele cancelled which will at least mean more time to practise. I might have got the hang of Ukulele Lady by the time we start again.
Remade the bed and loaded the washer with bedding. If it stays fine I might be able to hang it out. Walked along the sea front this am. Lovely views and fresh air.

olliebeak Tue 17-Mar-20 13:17:55

I'll pass part of my day looking for 'Freebies' to go on my Kindle Paperwhite - always better when you don't have to pay for them wink!

I've prepped for a large (Pressure Cooker size) pan of home-made soup - lots of leeks, onions, potatoes, 1 carrot, broccoli/cauli stalks, 1 courgette - unfortunately no celery sad - but will also add some Red Lentils, Chicken Stock Cubes, Veg Stock Cubes and Dried Mixed Herbs grin.

I'm sure that I've got half a box of Black Magic from Christmas lurking in my 'secret stash drawer' - under the sheets in the base of the bed wink.

Exercise class was cancelled this morning until further notice - yay! I might do some exercises at home though, as much as I don't enjoy it.

To put a smile on my face, I might make a video for DGS who is stranded in the US. I have taken to whatsapping a joke a day to my DC so keep posting to that thread please (yesterday posted Eloethan's one about the English professor, which they loved.)

Pearlsaminger Tue 17-Mar-20 13:08:19

I’m watching TV with subtitles on (my daughter hates them) today! My hearing test got cancelled so I’m indulging before My Little Madam gets home from work (she’s been sent home and is on her way!) and I watch and listen to muffled mumblings grin

Hobo Tue 17-Mar-20 13:04:33

I don't know where you all live, but it's wet and drizzly here in Cardiff. Had planned to plant some polyanthus in hanging baskets , but rain stopped play! Am meeting a friend for a walk after lunch, hope my little dog will be up for it, he seems to enjoy his bed more than exercise, can't say I blame him

Oopsminty Tue 17-Mar-20 13:01:09

Lovely boots!

I have had a gorgeous hot bath and later I'll be taking my small dog down to the woods for our daily walk

Pantglas2 Tue 17-Mar-20 13:00:26

What a lovely bunch you are! And what lovely pics you’ve sent, very cheering and just what I needed to be honest!

I’m just mashing bananas and will post my pic later (before DH gets his paws on em - he’s like a meerkat when there’s cake!)

Keep posting and inspiring us folks.....flowers to all x

GreenGran78 Tue 17-Mar-20 12:57:54

I did a bit of shopping this morning......with the emphasis on ‘a bit’. A jar of coffee, a loaf, which was the only one left, and cost me £1.70 and a chunk of Lancashire cheese. There were a few other things I wanted, but the cupboard was bare! I also bought some red wool to knit a sweater for my little GD in Oz, though I don’t know when she will get it. Posting it costs more than the cost of the wool!
Just heard that our U3A trip to Liverpool to see The King and I has been called off ? as have most of my other activities. Luckily I have plenty of books, jigsaws and wool to keep me occupied.
I will get out in the garden this afternoon, while the mild weather lasts. Plenty of things need tidying up. I may even clean the windows, if desperate enough to occupy myself!
Stay safe and warm, everyone.

Liscarney Tue 17-Mar-20 12:49:39

Will have a walk along the seafront and think about how we spent St Patrick’s day last year. Happy St Patrick’s day shamrock shamrock shamrock

Whitewavemark2 Tue 17-Mar-20 12:45:25

Just back from a two hour walk along the coast in the glorious spring sun and breeze. Now about to heat up a couple of pasties for lunch.

witzend I LOVE rice pudding especially made with full cream unpasteurised milk. Yum yum

I have never in my life had chocolate that I rationed myself with. In fact I am extremely embarrassed to say that I demolished a couple of eggs before we came away that I had bought for the ACs?

GracesGranMK3 Tue 17-Mar-20 12:41:52

Not locked up GG54? I thought you had said you were in your 80s!

Granny1London Tue 17-Mar-20 12:38:12

I plan to pour a large G and T later and wish myself many happy returns!
