Does anybody else have this issue? He is 22 so at a selfish stage and I know his girlfriend is number one- but he didnt send a text! Is this normal? He lives here- albeit like a hotel.

He needs a kick up the arse. Stop doing things for him, he's a selfish pig for not acknowledging you today

Why would he send a text if he lives with you
Unfortunately many men don’t even know it is Mother’s Day ? I wouldn’t worry too much or tell him he’s disappointed you he probably hadn’t got a clue

I wouldn’t get too worried about it. Boys do seem to go through a very hedonistic stage but eventually most grow up and begin to value your existence?

My son is now 46/and we’ve been through all the stages. He now acts just as you’d expect.

Flowers left in the porch for me where he picked up some 4 toilet rolls as he has none and we shared ours with him. Kiss blown as he walked away with wife.

He hasn't been home all weekend as he is with his girlfriend, so I did expect a text.

I don't cook for him and he is living here for very little £30 per month! I do his washing if he leaves it here

Sounds par for the course to me.

Thanks, what age will he change? He is fantastic for his girlfriend's family- cooks for them but never for me.

Auntieflo Sun 22-Mar-20 18:44:12

That was very remiss of him, and how on earth can he live with you for £30.00 Per Month?

Daisymae Sun 22-Mar-20 18:45:53

£30 a month?? If he leaves his washing with you that's just what I would do - leave it. Time for a talk about his contribution.

Yes, I'm wondering if I have been too soft with him. The charge is just because I lose the council tax single person discount- so no charge for utilities or food. He spends all his free time at his girlfriends

It happens gradually particularly once he gets over the girlfriend stage and settles down.

I never remonstrated with him, tbh I’m like that with both my children and it has paid off big time they are both so supportive and caring now particularly there like a shot if we are in any difficulty, like the odd heart attack, cancer etc?
We can absolutely depend on them now.

But to be fair we reciprocate - it’s called family.

I’m not sure that it matters how much rent you charge, it so much depends on your and their circumstances. Do what is comfortable. I never charged them anything, but we were comfortably off.

A not so happy Mother's Day for you, eh? He is only 22 -boys that age don't particularly remember these special dates..... my youngest son, when he was about 22, forgot Mother's Day, and would have probably forgotten it today, if it wasn't for his wife reminding him to call me. Don't you think his gf should have reminded him? I'm sure she didn't forget her mother
today. Or did she?

ineedamum Sun 22-Mar-20 18:57:12

Thanks everybody. His girlfriend is nice so I'm sure she would have done something for her mother so I assumed that would make him think of me.

I'm going to read a book now and enjoy the rest of the day.

Thanks everybody- why do men neglect their Mums when they meet a woman? Why do their partners accept it? One day these women may have sons.

MiniMoon Sun 22-Mar-20 18:59:16

I hardly ever received a card or gift for Mothers Day before my son met a good woman. He doesn't shop much, or watch television, so the reminders weren't there.
I didn't worry about it at all.
I don't think sons are necessarily thoughtless, but birthdays and special occasions don't seem to register with them.

“why do men neglect their Mums when they meet a woman? ”
Absolute opposite e for me. I received a card from my son. today with such a lovely message (and yes I did cry) but he fully acknowledged that his wife got the card and reminded him to post it!! Three cheers for DILS,

paddyanne Sun 22-Mar-20 19:56:37

another mother blaming a DIL or GF for her sons lack of thoughtfulness!! Why not blame him he's old enough to send a card or pick up a phone without his partner reminding him .

I think the more you do for your children the less they appreciate it! On a thread a while ago I asked was I a hard mother as my children had to make their own sandwiches for school and iron their own clothes (if they wanted ironed) from a fairly young age. However, they all clubbed together and sent me flowers today, and I got phone calls, cards and messages from all 5.

I know I must be very lucky indeed - and I'm not bragging - but my sons (38 and 36) have always got me a present and card, for birthdays, Christmas too. Neither of them is with a woman at present.
