I so agree Phoenix the “magic words” are not anti-bacterial !
Mind you, improvements in hygiene standards were long overdue

The physical work involved replaces the gym!

And whilst we are cleaning we think that we are doing our bit!

At least it will keep away the secondary infections that could take advantage of CoVid19 knocking you for six.

Elegran I think that Covid 19 might be the 1% that none of them kill!

But I squirt Dettol around anyway.

This is a new virus. How do the manufacturers of old cleaning products know that they will kill it?

tickingbird Sun 22-Mar-20 19:26:12

I have Dettol wipes and it states on the packaging that they kill 99% of germs and viruses. I use them but also use bleach.

To kill C19 your safest bet is Milton.
I buy the tablets and dissolve in a spray bottle to clean down door handles etc. www.mypharmacy.co.uk/product/milton-sterlising-fluid-500ml/

We have Clinell wipes which state that they are effective against 99.9% of germs.
That’s good I thought, then I realised that we live on our own, we are self isolating as we are highish risk, no one is coming into the house and if one of us becomes ill then it’s likely that antiseptic wipes probably won’t help!

But I have a large pack, so that’s ok.

I've been using Zoflora for years

Scroll down to the bottom of this page for info on wipes. Some work, some don’t.

You’re better off going to the source than asking random folks on t’internet, I reckon.

This is Dettols page. www.dettol.co.uk/about-us/understanding-coronavirus/

Dettol (as far as I remember) is an antiseptic, the wipes I sometimes use in the bathroom (yes, anti wipe people, I DID use wipes but especially during my episode with campylobacter) are anti bacterial.

So, are any of these are of much use against a VIRUS?

Yes, using them is not to be sniffed at (!) and any improvement in standards of hygiene is to be applauded, but perhaps we should be careful as to what we put our faith in.
