Slipping into slobbishness

I’m very sleepy and tempted to go to bed without a bath. Nobody’s going to get closer than 6’ to me anytime soon so why not wear the same clothes three days running, leave my hair unbrushed and leave my bed unmade?
Will I turn into a stinking slob and eventually stop brushing my teeth, changing my pants and cleaning the bathroom? Is slobbishness something we could all slide into if not vigilant?
I’ve now frightened myself and off to run my bath!

The smart work clothes are washed ironed and put away until we reopen. I did read that everyone is just three weeks from discovering what colour their hair really is!?‍♀️

I love long baths and looking after myself so I will keep doing it no matter what - I have lots of body creams and face masks to use so every day is a pamper day ❤️

I wish I'd had a haircut before it was too late. Now it's a straggly mess. Still have a shower first thing in the morning. I hate sitting around in my dressing gown.

Grammaretto Mon 23-Mar-20 11:20:36

The early shopping hour is to give us oldies a reason to get out of bed. I did get dressed but DH didn't and has subsequently gone back to bed!
I was in hospital once for tests. I was quite well when I went in but after a couple of days of lying in bed, connected to a drip and being fed drugs I was an invalid.

Having a break from making the daily effort is Ok until it becomes EVERY day. Then one day you may wake up feeling comprehensively grubby which itself generates a feeling of "what's the point?"

Still in PJ's, hair unwashed(or combed) for days, teeth unbrushed, etc, etc. Pretty soon you're looking in the mirror at the Harry Enfield creation Waynetta Slob.

Escape while you can!

I am SO glad I’m not the only ‘slattern’ on gransnet. I am keeping clean but have ditched deodorant/antiperspirant. I think I remember reading that the chemicals from them were found in breast tumours and as I’m on my own it doesn’t matter if I whiff a bit.

Standards luv, standards!!
I am up and at 'em as usual. I don't ever wear "decent" clothes, but stick to leggings (on my mountain bike) and jeans when out and about. With added tee shirts and fleece.
I never wear makeup, and l can't bear the smell of dirty hair ( mine, or anyone else's).
Back off to work tomorrow. Happy days!
Do not blame the "slobs", l just ain't one!.

If you wear your pjs during the day they become a leisure suit?

Christalbee Mon 23-Mar-20 10:57:07

I'm taking this opportunity to shower, do my hair and dress up every morning in different outfits. My partner and grown son are also at home with me (working) so really appreciate it. And it's funny cos I've lost weight too. Be positive everyone and don't let everything slide!! Missing my young grandchildren that I usually look after, but hey ho, time for me for a little while! I live next to a river and lakes, so can walk to the dog. Am very lucky! Larder fairly stocked up cos I buy in bulk and did that a couple months ago. Nothing fancy but we won't starve.

Cannot understand people washing their hair every day! My daughter does that, it’s bonkers. Even showering too much, why?
I’m very French ( the French use less soap than any other nation? but are probably using a bit more at the moment, I hope so...)
Ah well, just off to wash my groceries delivered from Asda.

M0nica Mon 23-Mar-20 10:56:22

I am up and dressed as normal. Touch of blusher and mascara. I do not want to accidentally see myself in a mirror and think I am dead.

Slobbing is limited to when I am ill. I am not ill at present so I am not slobbing.

A shower a day keeps depression away and a skin regime to ward off the wrinkles, but I’m making the most if working from home by wearing my Christmas ‘fun’ jumpers so I get more value out of them! ??

I dislike Skype and FaceTime because I have to worry about how I look. I know what my family and friends look like. I don’t need a video. Phone is fine as far as I’m concerned.

I do keep clean even so, and am very fussy about washing my hair regularly. I hate having showers, but am forcing myself. My clothes are clean but not exactly glamorous - designed for comfort!

Pantglas2 Mon 23-Mar-20 10:07:37

Showering every morning is non negotiable for me as I can’t stand not feeling clean for the whole day. I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week so no change there an don’t often wear makeup but always have a morning/evening skincare routine.

To keep my spirits up I’m treating myself to little beauty treatments with creams/potions to use them all up and will have a spending spree when this is over!

It's easy to let standards slip if you've no reason to dress yourself up but for my own self-respect I like to wash and dress each morning unless I'm really poorly.
Last week I was lazy as I'd just learned that my regular visits were off limits for the foreseeable future and was a bit down about it. I just sat about sewing, reading and watching telly.
However now that the sun is shining and I'm in a better mindset I'm going to keep myself busy with Spring cleaning inside and out. The car might even get a wash and vac.

dragonfly46 Mon 23-Mar-20 09:43:41

I am like you Urmston. I usually do not dress up on Sundays and now that Sunday is every day I see no reason to.
I did have to run yesterday though as my DS Facetimed me and I hadn't got my hat on!

Greymar Mon 23-Mar-20 09:39:12

I'm more than sorry now Urm, just done 2 minutes srepping on the stairs. Not pretty.

annodomini Mon 23-Mar-20 09:39:07

I'm lounging in dark grey joggers and a red fleece which I wouldn't normally wear in public. I have decided to augment my wardrobe by a pair of navy joggers which I have ordered from M&S. If I am still isolated by the time summer (if ever) comes around, I have several pairs of fairly disreputable denim crops.

GagaJo Mon 23-Mar-20 09:38:38

I might wash my hair today. Haven't bothered for 3 days. Normally everyday. Meh. The cat will lick it clean if I give her the chance.

Oldwoman70 Mon 23-Mar-20 09:37:36

So glad it isn't just me! I was very tempted not to shower yesterday morning as I thought I won't be going anywhere or seeing anyone but then decided that way lies madness so showering every day is non-negotiable!

Urmstongran Mon 23-Mar-20 09:16:17

Probably why I like them Greymar! I’ll be sorry in 12 weeks ...
?

Daddima Mon 23-Mar-20 09:01:42

I bought a couple of pairs of new pyjamas, fully intending to have ‘ PJ days’, but still imagine somebody’s going to call, so get dressed instead!
Hair washing is overdue though, as is colouring, so God knows what it’ll look like after the 12 weeks I hear I’m expected to stay at home!
My friend brought me 2 shalwar kameez(es?) from Pakistan for lounging in, but they are rather fancy, and I worry that folk would think I’d lost what’s left of my marbles if they saw me.
I suppose I’ll soon realise nobody’s going to ‘ drop in’!

TwiceAsNice me too as i am doing the 30min exercise dvd that Gransnet have suggested, the Leslie Sansome walking one, it makes me perspire so a shower is defo needed!!! Not bothering with make up as not going out. But like you my hair needed a trim and my fringe driving me mad, so i am clipping it back for now , not an attractive look but at least it is out of my eyes.

sodapop Mon 23-Mar-20 08:51:40

Grumppa I can't believe you are letting yourself go like that, pull yourself together man gringrin

TwiceAsNice Mon 23-Mar-20 08:46:44

I couldn’t not have a shower every day or not wash my hair. I would just feel dirty and that would make me more miserable. Am not bothering with makeup but that’s the extent of the slob! I should have had my hair cut and coloured last Friday but cancelled so goodness knows what it will look like by the time I can go again
