While we’re all stuck indoors for the foreseeable, we thought we’d put together a Gransnet daily challenge to keep us all busy and entertained. We’ll post a different challenge every morning on a range of different topics - food, fitness, arts, crafts, writing, etc.

First up...write a haiku about your favourite person or your favourite food.

For those like me who have not yet branched into creative writing of this type, here's how to do it courtesy of wikihow

To write a haiku poem, write a poem that's 3 lines long and make sure each line has the right number of syllables. Give the first line 5 syllables, the second line 7 syllables, and the third line 5 syllables.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Many sad stories
Too many goodbyes, too soon
When will it all end..?

JoyBloggs Wed 01-Apr-20 20:18:36

Sorry, OP said it should be about a person or food...

An avocado
On a slice of buttered toast,
Topped with a poached egg

Baked beans on toast for dinner

Supermarket Lament

My Waitrose? So why
Can you not deliver my
Temenite Spice Paste?

Alas, Sainsbury!
No slot but now you recall
My Branston Pickle!

Tesco, Ocado
A familiar theme but
No van Morrison.

During this lockdown
Rainbows in all the windows
Children bringing smiles

Bathsheba Thu 02-Apr-20 09:06:53

Haiku is three lines
Syllables five, seven, five
No more, no fewer

Witzend Thu 02-Apr-20 09:11:16

Oh, I missed the bit about favourite person or food.

Favourite person?
How can I choose only one
From all who are dear?

Bathsheba Thu 02-Apr-20 09:33:32

Oops! I missed that too Witzend....

Our daughter lives near
Might as well be miles away
Still cannot see her

Cunco Thu 02-Apr-20 10:47:15

My sole veg dislike
Is fennel, so fingers crossed
None of that, please!

henetha Fri 03-Apr-20 10:54:02

I've got potatoes!
So I can do cooking now
To eat and to freeze.

Maybe Shepherd's pie?
And vegetable curry,
I am spoiled for choice!

Callistemon Fri 03-Apr-20 10:58:43

Shepherd's or cottage
Pie? There is a thread on this
To help you decide
