While we’re all stuck indoors for the foreseeable, we thought we’d put together a Gransnet daily challenge to keep us all busy and entertained. We’ll post a different challenge every morning on a range of different topics - food, fitness, arts, crafts, writing, etc.

First up...write a haiku about your favourite person or your favourite food.

For those like me who have not yet branched into creative writing of this type, here's how to do it courtesy of wikihow

To write a haiku poem, write a poem that's 3 lines long and make sure each line has the right number of syllables. Give the first line 5 syllables, the second line 7 syllables, and the third line 5 syllables.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Bed is what I love
I long for a restful night
But it evades me

Marmight Wed 22-Apr-20 05:44:17

My Mother weaned me on it

Chocolate is bad
Recite this as your mantra
Then consume marmite

Marmight Tue 21-Apr-20 13:49:10

I can’t help myself -
Just eaten the last choccy
Is this good or bad?

Bellanonna Tue 21-Apr-20 12:25:05

No countryside hereabouts
Just house after house

So hopefully put out fires
And watered the plants

Our moors are on fire
Arsonists got bored..... idiots
Fire crews worked all night

henetha Wed 15-Apr-20 11:09:54

The moors are still there
The sea still pounds the beaches
I will see them soon

'Morning dog' precedes
A smile for the dog owner
Because 'who bites, wins'!

Grandson's two years old
Too young to understand why
We can't visit him

For those in intensive care
And for their loved ones

Talking to the birds
They answer me back whistling
Think I've got a date

henetha Tue 14-Apr-20 10:51:32

Sat in the garden
Surrounded only by birds
Heavenly to me

henetha Mon 13-Apr-20 10:06:45

A smile from Cunco.
Just a moment's slight contact
Makes us less alone
smile

Cunco Mon 13-Apr-20 09:47:39

Oops. I slipped up in the last line.

The north wind doth blow,
Trunks bend, limbs stretch, the forest's
Green morning work-out.

Cunco Mon 13-Apr-20 07:34:03

henetha That's very kind, made me smile ? and your haiku reminded me of our adopted family motto 'brace up!'

The north wind doth blow,
Trunks bend, limbs stretch, the forest's
Morning work-out.

Still reading good book
Lawnmower droning is white noise
Almost finished it
