While we’re all stuck indoors for the foreseeable, we thought we’d put together a Gransnet daily challenge to keep us all busy and entertained. We’ll post a different challenge every morning on a range of different topics - food, fitness, arts, crafts, writing, etc.

First up...write a haiku about your favourite person or your favourite food.

For those like me who have not yet branched into creative writing of this type, here's how to do it courtesy of wikihow

To write a haiku poem, write a poem that's 3 lines long and make sure each line has the right number of syllables. Give the first line 5 syllables, the second line 7 syllables, and the third line 5 syllables.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

@trisher fair point! We did this as a dailychallenge rather than a competition... BUT we have loved it so much (keep them coming!) that we will offer a small prize to one drawn at random. Unfortunately, prizes are in the office (ah, we remember the office...) and posting them definitely doesn't come under essential journeys, so there may be a bit of a wait.flowers

Passion is flowing with
Veins inflamed with fear
Shrouded by that cape; your heros

Don’t fret, nothing sinister.
Can’t talk on the 'phone!

Cream cakes make you fat.
There's no getting round that.
I just get rounder.

Are you going to offer a spot prize like new posters got?

Crispy and golden,
Garlic bread, still in my head
Is it lunchtime yet?

Witzend Wed 01-Apr-20 11:54:26

Where will you put him
Once he’s no more, MerlotGran?
Have you got a spade?

LullyDully Wed 01-Apr-20 11:53:36

Lots of April birthdays
I've made them homemade cards, yeah.
Let's hope they forgive me.

Witzend Wed 01-Apr-20 11:52:32

In this isolation house

Dropped off birthday cake "For Dad"
at dawn; love was here.

Witzend Wed 01-Apr-20 11:42:31

I’m craving one now
A crumpet I mean, or two
Or three, with butter!

henetha Wed 01-Apr-20 11:40:49

I must just mention
Others are available
But don't taste as good

henetha Wed 01-Apr-20 11:39:28

Warburtons crumpets
Are creamy and tastier
When you can get them

Witzend Wed 01-Apr-20 11:39:14

Oops, wrong 2nd line, tut tut, 2 syllables short
He always reads the paper

Madmaggie Wed 01-Apr-20 11:38:48

Wood Pigeons
Eating pink cherry blossoms
As Spring arrives

Witzend Wed 01-Apr-20 11:37:25

Husband still not dressed!
He reads the paper
Cover to cover.

But it’s yesterday’s
Left outside until today
To kill off the germs.
(we hope)

vickya Wed 01-Apr-20 11:36:52

Bathsheba it's ok
