When Did....Become...?

Just this evening, on television, a caption denoted that the lady who was talking was a ' garment technician '. I don't know
what that means. Perhaps a dressmaker?

Maybe it was a Scottish 'thing' but when I was a child, the word pregnant was never used, it was always ' expecting ' .

Has anyone mentioned the use of ‘smart’ to mean clever? Another Americanism.

Oh, I nearly forgot the dreaded “ Break-out” sessions from staff training which generally involved getting into groups armed with felt tip pens and a large sheet of paper. What did it all mean?

I want to know who is removing the "o" from everyday words - such as Police - now seemingly always pronounced as "Plice"!

To has sometimes become ta, as in "We are going ta employ 1000s of Doctors ta work in Hospitals" ....listen to the Prime Minister for example.

And when, for some people, did it become necessary for every sentence to begin with ‘So,’. Drives me nuts, it sounds ridiculous!

The ubiquitous ’enjoy’ when served in a restaurant, coffee shop etc .
On second thoughts, I would put up with it now, with a good grace!

I always thought 'Personnell' was much nicer than 'human resources'. Why use two words when one was enough.

The worst of all is of course "the journey" which everyone seems to be on nowadays.

Nappy is actually a lot younger than you think. I came across the reference to 'diaper' in an account of household goods in a historic house. I queried what the word referred to and was told nappies as we think of them. Researched a bit and yes nappy is relatively modern in English language. Diaper was a 'nappy' and may have transported to USA many years ago and is still used where we changed to nappy. Full of useless information I am!
