Dustman now Refuse Collector. Rat/Rodent Man now Pest Controller. When younger we had Lavatory I just call it the Loo. My mums neighbour always called it the Privvy. When did settee become sofa.
My dad always asked my mum for a clean singlet after his bath he meant his vest but it was always his singlet.

Sorry - you beat me to it! As soon as I saw the thread, I leapt right up on to my high horse.

Nappy is actually a lot younger than you think. I came across the reference to 'diaper' in an account of household goods in a historic house. I queried what the word referred to and was told nappies as we think of them. Researched a bit and yes nappy is relatively modern in English language. Diaper was a 'nappy' and may have transported to USA many years ago and is still used where we changed to nappy. Full of useless information I am!

So if a post person is a postie to be non sexist , what is the mon sexist term for a milkman? Milkie??

The worst of all is of course "the journey" which everyone seems to be on nowadays.

I always thought 'Personnell' was much nicer than 'human resources'. Why use two words when one was enough.
