This is the drip drip drip of Americanisms infiltrating and degrad8ng our language, why? Because American English is a very simplified version of the queens English, and we have let them.
I worked for an American company and was asked to simplify my language because they often could not understand me. That about sums it up!

Actually senior is used in modern German to designate the elderly.

‘problems’ became ‘challenges’.

meet became 'meet with"
get in touch with became 'reach out'

and for the sewers amongst you when did material become fabric?

Technicians become “engineers”.

Logistics and podiatrists-I had to look both of them up when I first heard them.
Knickers-definitely the navy blue ones we wore when PE was done in vests and knickers. Pants are fine but don’t get me started on panties!

Old gummer that’s arisen because of how it sounds. Try teaching planets to a class of teenagers - some are very keen to say things like ‘how big is Uranus miss ‘ or ‘Has anyone seen Uranus?’ making it sound like Your anus’ - cue lots of giggling. Even When you have introduced the planet as YUR - a - nus!!!

katek I heard employees referred to as colleagues quite recently on tv, which was rather insulting as the most senior colleague of all was laying off his more junior colleagues.

Chemist is a general term, a chemist can be anyone from a pharmacist to research chemist, industrial chemist, forensic chemist etc.
I think the name has been used by firms over the years such as Boots, Timothy White and Taylor's (remember them?) and has become a generalised term.

A pharmacist is a person who is trained and qualified in the science of pharmaceutical medicines and can dispense medicines.

I think it became popular to say "Xxx is on Annual Leave" rather than on holiday because it sounds less frivolous and gives the impression that this is something that happens only once a year, which isn't the case.
So the customer/client/service user is meant to feel less bad about not being able to contact Xxx.

Way back in the 70s, working in a bank, a colleague always registered school pupils who opened an account as 'student', saying it made the pupil feel more grown up.

I always think of knickers as being those navy woollen things we wore for PE.

Pants rather than knickers any day - unless you are American , then it all gets a bit confusing.
