Now people are presenting tv from home we get a look at their homes .
Do they read all those books ? Who chooses a blank background ?
I confess to loving that glimpse of their homes . I shouldn’t be so nosey should I ?

no, thank goodness

Like something I put in broccoli and stilton soup

GabriellaG54 Tue 07-Apr-20 23:27:16

One Tweet likens them to Stilton cheese which had me lol.

GN can give you some great laughs.

grin at Stilton!

Just watched The Green Goddess on Breakfast tv. She has some great plants in her conservatory. And one lovely big copper coloured plant pot. Didn't notice what exercises she was doing though .

Callistemon so relieved they're not the same as yours... it was beginning to worry me! grin

We love looking at other people's homes during this lockdown and I also thought Michael Gove's curtains were very old fashioned! Laura the weather girl on GMB has a strategically placed camera that only shows a plain white wall though which was disappointing grin

I used to join video conferences when I was at work and was often more intrigued with the backgrounds than the conversation. I always made sure my backdrop was tidy and as the only woman in a world of men that I was too grin

Sarah Vine (Michael Goves wife) posted a close up picture of the curtains, and they look much nicer.

I enjoy having a look in to all these presenters homes.

Joe Wicks has the exact same paint colour as me.

Simon Gompertz had some fabulous blue bookshelves. Otherwise, I'm not particularly impressed by anything I've seen yet.

I love nosing in people's houses. I time my " daily visit to the shop" to coincide with the time of day when people have their lights on but curtains still open. Prime time for nosing. smile

I wonder if Michael Gove's curtains are the ones we paid for during the expenses scandal? I believe they cost several thousand pounds.

MerylStreep Wed 08-Apr-20 07:50:32

As we are seeing so many bookcases now, we have started giving them marks out of 10 ? There was a real horror on the wall of an ex Minister talking on the BBC this morning ?
We were very disappointed that Hestletine didn't show his.?

Another one of my beefs is the poor taste in picture arranging ( on walls)

JoyBloggs Wed 08-Apr-20 08:07:36

GG13 I agree... 'those curtains' actually look rather nice in close-up!

oldgimmer1 Wed 08-Apr-20 08:14:40

I'm surprised at the randomness of the picture-arranging too. I haven't seen a kitchen I like yet, either.

GabriellaG54 Wed 08-Apr-20 09:13:16

Many homes now are going for the blank look, at least, that's how I describe it.
Grey and silver. Sitting room, bedroom, kitchen...you only have to look at YouTube.
Cloned ideas. No warmth or softness, it's all a bit stark, and that's from one who dislikes clutter and nick-nacks.
As for curtains with those awful holes in the top, ugh! I don't like curtains anyway.

SuzannahM Wed 08-Apr-20 09:24:22

I'm so nosey that I had to google to find the mysterious curtains and what was so awful about them. I think I would probably like them in real life - just cream toile with a blue peacock pattern.

They do look a bit Stiltonish in a small pic - blimey, next time I change the curtains should I take a pic on my camera to check they will look okay on video screen???

4allweknow Wed 08-Apr-20 09:49:30

Definitely kitchen envy. Why does every house apart from mine gave a kitchen the size of a football pitch and doors looking onto a a beautiful established garden with loads of trees. Ahhh, can but dream, plenty time for that just now.

Scottiebear Wed 08-Apr-20 09:54:34

I'm also fascinated by the books on people's shelves. Frustrating that I cant read most of the titles.

luluaugust Wed 08-Apr-20 09:54:42

They wouldn't put their kitchens on screen if they didn't look like that. Apparently the Gove curtains are ten years old.

Lclaytonuk555 Wed 08-Apr-20 10:00:38

I watched someone talking about the virus from their bedroom and it really looked like there was a pair of black ladies’ pants hooked on the door handle.....

CleoPanda Wed 08-Apr-20 10:07:36

“ Cabinet Secretary Michael Gove's wife Sarah Vine has defended her choice of curtains after Twitter users mocked the fabric, suggesting it resembled "stilton cheese".
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, Ms Vine said the curtains were in fact "very stylish toile".
"Or at least I thought they were," she added in a post on Twitter. "Now they're just always going to be stilton."
It came after keen-eyed social media users had jovially commented on the curtains' appearance when Mr Gove shunned the traditional TV-background shot of a bookcase or plain wall during a video-link interview with the BBC earlier on Tuesday.”

Tanjamaltija Wed 08-Apr-20 10:08:41

Well, these people know they are on camera, so they sit where they think it will give the best impression. Also, some studio sets are constructed to look like homes... so it could be they are not at home, anyway.

Callistemon Wed 08-Apr-20 10:12:04

Of course, Sarah Vine would probably dislike my curtains.

Many would and I decided I wasn't so keen myself after I put them up grin

Tanjamaltija Wed 08-Apr-20 10:12:38

I got curious about the Stilton curtains... so here they are, for the predilection of all: www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/michael-gove-wife-sarah-vine-defends-curtains-stilton-a4409401.html

Ps I have a French Toile bedspread in the spare room

Oh dear, it gets worse.
