That’s going to be a big problem as far as international ways to cope with similar viruses is concerned. Quite literally those most affected have been buried or cremated and we will rely on the honesty of the different countries involved. Already figures are distorted by devious ways of producing the statistics.

One of the earlier Italian survivors said that he wasn’t going to let the €6,000 bill he owed worry him for now. Presumably some kind of co-pay system and a huge amount for some people to find. So many people will have this as an additional worry to contend with.

I do not think it is incompatible with decency to say that you have compassion for a man who is suffering a dreadful illness and for his family, whilst at the same time stating that you fundamentally disagree with his policies and believe he should not be prime minister.

I wish him well on his journey back to health, but would not hesitate to criticise his politics and the effects that this has had on those less privileged.

You failed to address my first sentence Trisher - my stepmother died under a Labour government and as a family, we too could have picked holes in the wait for care package which took weeks to arrive.

So one minute Labour are accountable for faults in the NHS in Wales etc but we can't hold this government for the huge numbers of people dying from the virus. So when [and when not] can we hold people to account for the results of their actions [or inactions]?

Yes we’re all funded by Westminster but decisions on how to spend it are made by Labour in Cardiff. They prefer to give everyone free scripts and parking and have three year delays for hip ops .....

I have mentioned on another thread about not being able to get medication without someone travelling an 80 or 100 mile round trip.
But, oh dearie me, I must not send anyone to fetch that for me!

lemon my mother was well looked after in hospital but the point is she didn't need to be there. She needed care and assistance but she could have received that in her own home. Her home had been assessed and she had all the necessary equipment but there were no carers. Anyone who pretends that this wasn't caused by the Tory cuts is simply deluding themselves. The big joke is of course that actually the cost of keeping her in hospital was far greater than the cost of care would have been. So it didn't even save money.
Pantglas2 I beleive Wales is still funded from Westminster, so the cuts would still cause bother.

Here in Wales we’re run by Labour and things are no better and may even be worse!

trisher ... older people die just as frequently in homes or their own homes, your DM would have been well looked after in hospital, though of course I imagine she did want to go home.My DGM spent ages in hospital, then went to a good care home for a fortnight and then to her own home, where she died a week later.You can never tell about these things.

Thanks Greymar and Gagajo it was the anniversary of her death recently. I'm actually pleased she was spared this shut down she would have hated it. But it struck me that there are people dying now with exactly the same things to contend with, and if your mum has just died you maybe wouldn't have as much sympathy for Johnson as some are demanding.

Politics has always decided if people lived or died. The deaths were just not quite so public. My mother died in hospital waiting for a care package. If care services hadn't been cut to the very bone, if care workers were properly paid, if many hadn't left because of Brexit, in other words if people hadn't voted in a Tory government my mother might have gone back to her own flat. She might have lived longer and when she died it might have been in her own bed. So actually I understand why some might feel that an overprivileged man who has overseen such devastation might not be worthy of their sympathy. They don't need to reevaluate them selves. It is the people who voted in the Tories who need to do that.

And tell me, who are you exactly to be telling us to re evaluate ourselves?

Perhaps Mr Johnson could revalute his cavalier attitude.....why did he shake hand with Covid patients exactly?

Is it human to expect somebody on muimum wage ( possibly up to their eyes in debt) to wear a shoddy uniform and run round to deliver an elderly person their 15 minutes of " care"?
