News tweeted by Robert Peston..poor man..hope he gets well..

minxie Tue 07-Apr-20 11:08:32

I was stunned when I heard it and will be shocked to the core of he doesn’t make it. Someone said on the radio that he looks fitter than he is. He runs, plays tennis and eats well and is otherwise a healthy body.
He has to pull through for all our sakes.

I have never been a fan of Boris or his politics, but I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. He was just too blase about his own safety. It is just a tragic situation for everybody involved. Let's hope that he pulls through.

It would be nice if Boris 's experience served to change his mind about how much salary a nurse or a cleaner should earn.

Aepgirl Tue 07-Apr-20 11:04:17

Get well soon Boris. We need you.

Joesoap Tue 07-Apr-20 11:01:39

I think everyone should be praying for Boris, no matter what religion. We need Boris to lead our Country, as he has been doing so well.
Get well and God bless

Spookwriter23 Tue 07-Apr-20 11:01:21

I've been praying for him

Neilspurgeon0 Tue 07-Apr-20 11:00:54

Get well Boris, if ever the country needed strong leadership (yes I know he is like marmite ~ but he HAS got things done) now is the time.

I do NOT agree we need a Government of National Unity, because it wouldn’t be, it would be a talking shop with all the old, useless gits like Blair and Corbin coming out of the woodwork upsetting a Boris led direction of travel with which I happen to agree whole heartedly, we know what we have to do, stay in, stay safe, support the NHS,

Unfortunately another example of not following the advice

He is a key worker. Key workers arent working "agsinst advice"

25Avalon Tue 07-Apr-20 10:58:52

I think we have to face up to it that, heaven forbid, Boris may not make it and if he does he is going to be several weeks recovering. Raab needs to step up to the mark. Boris is a very sick man and would not be taking up an ICU bed otherwise. He should have rested but put his country first. I pray he recovers.

mcem Tue 07-Apr-20 10:58:14

Unfortunately another example of not following the advice being handed out to the rest of us. I wish him well of course but will risk being dismissed as a rabid unsympathetic leftie as I admit I more concerned about my 19 yr-old DGD who has been diagnosed positive as a result of working on the front line with elderly patients.

Joesoap Tue 07-Apr-20 10:53:45

Shocking news couldnt believe it last night when it came on the news, poor man, lets hope he recovers quickly. This is another blow to the country.
Get well Boris.

SirChenjin Tue 07-Apr-20 10:47:39

Well said FarNorth

notanan2 Tue 07-Apr-20 10:36:49

ITU is for people who have one or more organ(s) that would fail if they "just" had ward based medicine.

Dont read too much into statements about him not having a certain type of machine.
He is there for organ support. You simply would not admit anyone to that environment otherwise

FarNorth Tue 07-Apr-20 10:34:46

*along with Harry.

FarNorth Tue 07-Apr-20 10:34:07

As people on this thread are interested in Harry from Nottingham, he does indeed live in Nottingham and is a journalist and author originally from Scotland.
He has legitimate views about Boris Johnson, as do we all.

harrypaterson.com/about/

Asking with Harry, I hope Boris makes a good recovery.

Callistemon Tue 07-Apr-20 10:27:31

Well, it is a relief but presumably needing oxygen and a very high level of care or he would not be in ICU.

Riverwalk Tue 07-Apr-20 10:27:28

Update from Sky 10 minutes ago: 'Boris Johnson is not on a ventilator after spending the night in intensive care.'

I'm not aware that Downing Street/St Thomas' has put out an official communique, so I don't know what Sky has based their update on.

Callistemon Tue 07-Apr-20 10:25:55

Harry 'Not From Nottingham' as someone discovered, but a Scottish journalist.

MawB Tue 07-Apr-20 10:17:34

And it seems “Harry in Nottingham” has been deleted.

SirChenjin Tue 07-Apr-20 10:06:51

That is indeed very good news.

Hope that is good news.

I don't think we need a government of national unity..... we have a perfectly good cabinet, it’s just the PM that is out of action.Decisions are made by many people and regarding the virus all the health experts are working with them as usual.
What should be put off for another year are the Brexit negotiations, because there is enough to think about at the moment.
I really feel for Boris, as my DH was in the same ‘boat’ a few months ago, pneumonia is an awful thing. This particular virus affects people of all ages, and it’s pot luck if you get over it quickly ( Prince Charles) or badly.
Hope he recovers very soon.

Harris27 Tue 07-Apr-20 09:41:01

Wish him well. Knew something up when his deputy said he hadn’t spoke to him since Saturday. Hope he’s okay god what else could happen? I never thought he would get it this bad bless him.

dragonfly46 Tue 07-Apr-20 09:27:51

I agree with you Maw, a National Unity Government is what we need. Just as they are calling for retired doctors they should be consulting elder statesmen of all parties. Maybe with Kier Starmer as leader of the Labour Party that may be possible. I know JC was against it.

bikergran Tue 07-Apr-20 09:27:03

A frightening time for everyone especially his partner and family.
It does really bring it home to you,He has looked poorly but struggled on.
