Please dear god, get well soon Boris. Your family, Carrie and your baby need you.

Thanks MawB, a good suggestion that a government of National unity be established. To those who accuse the opposition of 'sniping', please note that we have an entirely new shadow cabinet, with a good leader. The opposition is now hopefully effective rather than poor. This is not a time for sniping either on this thread, or in Parliament.

I'm distressed and anxious that the PM is so very ill. I wish people would stop almost putting responsibility on to him for the way this virus has got hold. Yes, he's continued to work. I was once sent home by me GP. I'd been prescribed anti biotics for a chest infection, on my way to work. I argued with the GP that the nature of my work that week meant it was impossible to take time off. He told me this isn't a chest infection, its pneumonia, go home or you'll end up in hospital. I did go home. I wasn't the PM, running the country during a pandemic either but I'd still been daft enough to think I had to keep working.

Get well Boris Johnson. Your loved ones need you and this country needs stability

Oh dear. I hope they've put him in ICU out of an excess of caution rather than dire status. there is no such thing. If he is there he is very sick and needing more support than he can get on the wards.

craftyone Tue 07-Apr-20 09:07:16

pikachu, There are several ways to give oxygen, starting with simple mask or tubes into nose. No-one should be trying to conjure up imaginary ideas on how he is being treated. It is as it is and it does not stop us worrying but we need to be hopeful. There are enough very scared people on here as it is

almostelderly Tue 07-Apr-20 08:44:40

This wasn't really a surprise but it is quite shocking. He is emulating his hero, Winston Churchill. I read that Boris' partner also has the virus and she is pregnant. One can only wish them both well.

Pikachu Tue 07-Apr-20 08:33:49

craftone I read that he was given four litres of oxygen. Hopefully that was via CPAP.

I agree with those calling for a Government of National Unity. Whatever Johnson’s condition he is likely to be out of action for a long time and I have little confidence in most of his cabinet.

Hope he recovers.

Get well Boris I think you have been doing a very good job, it seems at the detriment to your health. I prayed for you last night and will continue to do so

sodapop Tue 07-Apr-20 08:25:06

I think that is the case GrannyIggle he is there in case he needs a ventilator. I wish him well.

MawB another excellent post this morning, I agree with your views.

TerriBull Tue 07-Apr-20 08:03:38

I sincerely hope Boris recovers, such an awful illness, so inconsistent in the way it manifests itself in some in that they emerge from it having it relatively unscathed, I'm thinking of Matt Hancock Whilst it leaves others completely steamrollered even if doesn't prove fatal. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Likewise I hope Carrie will be okay, a worrying time for her particularly as she is pregnant.

PageTurner Tue 07-Apr-20 07:37:29

Excellent post*Txquiltz*
This is a surreal time in our lives.
I hope Mr.Johnson recovers soon.

craftyone Tue 07-Apr-20 07:02:06

No change from last night, no ventilator. That has to be good news. Hang onto it, be hopeful

Txquiltz Tue 07-Apr-20 03:42:23

I would hope we value the life in jeopardy. He has an unborn child awaiting him. I fear the anxiety people are experiencing going thru this time. May we each strive to be kinder, wiser and more civil than ever before as a personal gift to the world for the day when sanity returns.

fatgran57 Tue 07-Apr-20 03:20:37

Very disturbing news.

Wishing Boris a speedy recovery although I realise that it is often a slow process . His family must be so worried.

Thinking of him here in Australia and hope he takes a turn for the better very soon.

GrannieIggle Mon 06-Apr-20 23:51:56

Oh dear. I hope they've put him in ICU out of an excess of caution rather than dire status.

He's in the best hands and we can only hope and pray.

Meanwhile, I guess it's a rather sleepless night for many of us...

maddyone Mon 06-Apr-20 23:36:55

Please God, he gets well.

Atqui Mon 06-Apr-20 23:29:35

I agree Jane10 We have the best scientists and medics advising the government. And to those who criticise
“Hindsight etc etc” Get well Boris

Callistemon Mon 06-Apr-20 23:12:58

He has worked on when he perhaps should have rested as others would have done, feeling it is his duty.

He is in the best possible hands and I hope he makes a full recovery and takes time to convalesce.

Rosina Mon 06-Apr-20 22:49:29

I feel truly rattled tonight - let's hope the news is better tomorrow. Whatever your politics, this man has worked flat out for weeks, perhaps unwisely while ill, but he has striven to do his best, and as many have said, he is a son, a father, a brother, a partner .

gulligranny Mon 06-Apr-20 22:36:32

Can't bear the thought of him being this ill - he has been under so much pressure for so long, don't know how he hasn't gone under before now. We need him to pull through, otherwise we might not pull through.

As for a national government ... as Her Majesty's Opposition has done nothing but snipe, carp and moan that they would have done it all so much better, I cannot see such a thing working at all.

Sparkling Mon 06-Apr-20 22:36:16

Terribly upsetting I could cry. Please God he pulls through, it's heartbreaking for Carrie and and his family. The Country needs him so much, he's a one off.

Barmeyoldbat Mon 06-Apr-20 22:35:22

I have never been a fan of Boris BUT I will say I wish him well, it must be a worrying time for his family. But saying this and I will probably get slagged of, he just didn't follow his own advice. He had the chance to be tested and he refused, then he didn't keep social distance. Its a lesson for all of us. Anyway I hope he recovers soon.

travelsafar Mon 06-Apr-20 22:30:36

So so sad that poor Boris is so unwell. It made my stomach turn when I heard the news and i feel upset for him and his family. Wondering if life will ever get back to the 'normal' that we use to know sad

blondenana Mon 06-Apr-20 22:30:06

I really hope Boris pulls through, his job must be very stressful, and he shouldn't perhaps have tried to carry on,
He looked ill when he was shown clapping

blondenana Mon 06-Apr-20 22:21:54

Labaik what did the russians say? i must have missed that

eazybee Mon 06-Apr-20 22:20:32

This is quite dreadful; the Prime Minister has worked so hard and for such a long time under such pressure; thank goodness this is such a strong government.
