What is wrong with some people? ?

I think you're getting worked up about nothing tbh.

The deliveryman took reasonable action to ensure that you were aware the parcel had arrived. He could have just left it there, of course.

I wish the delivery man had knocked on my door instead of just leaving the bouquet of flowers on the doorstep. They'd been there at least 36 hours when I eventually opened my front door and by then it was too late, they were dead. the flowers, not the delivery man

He possibly just wanted to be sure you knew it was there. A great many people have parcels stolen from their doorsteps. In the USA the courier takes a photo of where the parcel has been left so that they cannot be held responsible for it.

I can understand them ringing the bell so that you know a delivery has arrived and maybe he just wanted you to shout through the door so he knew it wasn't going to sit on the doorstep for hours/days?

This is a shielded household. I printed a notice to this effect which also stated that all deliveries should be left on the step. I then attached said notice to the front door at eye level.

Why then has a courier just rung the bell and stood on the step - staring right at the notice - waiting for an answer?? I had to shout at him from behind the door.

What bit of ‘self isolation/shielded’ did he not get?
