In order to make a cheese sandwich I have to:
1) put on gloves to pick up loaf of bread, open bag.
2) take off gloves, take out 2 slices without touching outside of bag.
3) put on gloves, seal up bag.
4) take off gloves, lift up lid of bread bin.
5) put on gloves, put bread in bread bin.
6) take off gloves, put lid back on bread bin.
7) put on gloves, take butter out of fridge, take lid off butter.
8) take off gloves, get knife scrape off some butter, tub slides all over the place, put on glove to hold tub. Take off glove, put butter on bread.
9) put on gloves. take cheese out of fridge and open packet. Shake packet till cheese slides out and lands on floor. Get new packet of cheese, shake out onto plate.
10) take off gloves, slice cheese, put on bread. Cut sandwich.
11) put on glove, hold cheese packet with gloved hand, slide in cheese with other.
12) put on other glove, fold over cheese wrapping.
13) take off gloves, open fridge door.
14) put on gloves, pick up cheese and butter, put in fridge.
15) take off gloves, shut fridge door.
Turn around and knock plate on to floor where it shatters in to pieces, just like my mind!

Ardencote it was clearly meant to amuse and thank you for trying.

It’s a joke! Duh!

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 15-Apr-20 22:34:08

Artdecogran don’t you dare go into a corner! Keep on posting. It’s cheered us all up. Doom and gloom might be around the corner, but we need light relief where we can find it.
Keep it up, please

Ellen, why is making a cheese sandwich serious? I am a widow and live on my own. I have 2 out of 3 dear daughter in laws who work on the frontline in NHS hospitals. I have a dear son who works on public transport. I have a new grandson born by caesarean on 2 April, still waiting to see if he and his mother have escaped the virus. I am crippled with pain and trying to cope without any assistance. I would like to curl up and die in a corner but I am trying very very hard to keep my chin up and keep going. I just tried to think of something amusing to share. Perhaps it was stupid and futile. So I’ll say no more and go and cry in my little corner.

It's probably how front-line workers are driven to doing, not those who are comfortably watching the news.

EllanVannin Wed 15-Apr-20 22:15:40

I wouldn't be making a joke out of something serious either !!

Sense of humour failure by some ?

Grandmafrench Wed 15-Apr-20 21:38:23

Artdecogran. Should your tricky sandwich making/eating ever compel you to look for a 'plastic bib with a trough at the bottom' .........they are called Pelican Bibs !

Laughed at your post. Each action describes how my poor brain struggles to cope with all unnecessary hand washing - and fails every time. Simple tasks can take forever. ( Still, a couple more months and I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.)

Laughterlines Wed 15-Apr-20 21:31:22

Artdecogran Now you have got to go out and buy another box of gloves.

Artdecogran Wed 15-Apr-20 21:19:43

Ellanvannin, I’m a bit confused about what/why you posting on this thread. It was supposed to be tongue in cheek about the confusion of preparing a simple sandwich in these days of food coming in fresh from the supermarket. Hence the gloves. It was as long winded and as difficult as I could think up. Not actually something I had done.

EllanVannin Wed 15-Apr-20 20:43:16

Gawd ! I was stating a fact that some medics have written about. It contained children being allowed to make mud pies, and generally getting themselves dirty.
What was wrong with my post ?

Glad one poster understands !

Artdecogran Wed 15-Apr-20 20:23:27

Not jam ! Marmalade ! And a bib. I always fancied one of those plastic bibs with a trough at the bottom.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 15-Apr-20 19:33:56

I would Sodapop that jam can travel for miles onto an unsuspecting worktop

sodapop Wed 15-Apr-20 17:06:25

I don't like cheese, what do I do ? Don hazmat suit for jam butty prep. smile

GabriellaG54 Wed 15-Apr-20 16:56:20

ON not in

GabriellaG54 Wed 15-Apr-20 16:56:05

Glove in one hand only.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 15-Apr-20 16:07:38

We still have the 3 second rule for any food that falls onto the floor, and we’ve lived to tell the tale....... so far.

SalsaQueen Wed 15-Apr-20 13:50:45

In normal households, however -

Wash hands
Butter bread
Put cheese on bread
Eat the damned thing
Wash hands

Gaunt47, no just very lazy. As I’m disabled I always think things through first to find the quickest way to do things. Seems I’m also able to find the long way of doing things too. Who’d a thunk it. ?

Cherrytree59 Wed 15-Apr-20 11:47:02

? know what you mean Artdecogran
My head and world seems to have turned upside down?

Gaunt47 Wed 15-Apr-20 11:29:59

Great post artdecogran grin Were you ever a time and motions officer?

Artdecogran Wed 15-Apr-20 11:27:17

Full marks for those of you who got it! It was just a humorous (I had hoped) thought about the muddle of making something simple these days.

fourormore Wed 15-Apr-20 11:01:11

Tongue in cheek post - I know the virus is serious!

Am I the only one who can remember, in my childhood days, the odd roast potato (or similar piece of food) falling off the spoon when being served up and falling onto the floor?
All Mum or Dad used to do was pick it up, check no dust etc and whack it back onto whatever plate it was destined for!
We survived!
Oh and sandy sandwiches at the beach at summer picnics!
Could the OP be posting a bit tongue in cheek too? hmm
