Quick afternoon question, what is the most annoying advert you've ever seen?

For me it's the CompareTheMarket adverts. Can't stand those meerkats.

This thread has given me a much needed laugh. Thank you ladies.
For the record the ones I hate the most are as follows.
Tampax - far too much unnessecary detail.
Oral B - when it comes on I want to reach through the screen and slap the silly woman on it.
Viagra- that bloke looks so smug, I want to slap him as well.
We buy any car-Philip Schofield grinning like an idiot.
But my most unfavourite one is the perf with surf advert. It has actually put me right off buying it!

Anything about funeral plans. So many. Especially the one where Mary pops in and mentions Parky. Every time the old guy says “Hello Mary” we say something far less welcoming. Terrible scripts and acting, too. Still, they’re probably written by someone on work experience - and no doubt the actors are pitched in with no rehearsal. They have to eat like the rest of us.

I mute all the adverts to keep sane ?

Diggingdoris Sun 19-Apr-20 17:07:23

So many are irritating so we also record and view so we can fast forward. There are too many. In one ad break during the Agatha Christie last night, I counted ten different products! We thought they were never going to end. So pleased we had recorded it.

Those" pretty" ,( awful) black incontinence knickers.
Any of the dubbed American adverts for teeth etc.
I also hate the people with constipation and heartburn who should maybe check their diets and not eat too late.

I agree with most of those already mentioned but one of my old time favourites was Cadbury Fingers with Harry the Spiders coming out party.

priestbridge Sun 19-Apr-20 16:20:01

The new Tampax one is awful!

Greciangirl Sun 19-Apr-20 16:14:36

I watch a lot of telly, so the remote control is always within reach and my finger permanently hovering over the mute button.

Xxjanexx Sun 19-Apr-20 15:47:06

The flash one with Dave dancing around the kitchen then by magic it’s sparkles.
That the only one I can think off as I very rarely watch tv.

Conni7 Sun 19-Apr-20 15:45:37

What am I missing? Thanks for all the laughs. I never watch any of them as I record everything and fast forward the ads.

GabriellaG54 Sun 19-Apr-20 15:31:37

Oh dear! I'm now thankful that I've never seen those ads mentioned on here, only the Meerkats ones (which I skip past) on Ch4.
I hardly watch TV, preferring my phone or tablet so I mostly watch YouTube or iPlayer.

Adds I hate : perfume adds well what would you do for love
Tener lady
Vagasil why do they air it a 5.00 in the afternoon
Sun life
Far more but I can't think of any at the moment
Stay safe folks

Bijou Sun 19-Apr-20 14:57:00

The funeral insurance ones and the ones for Tena and Andrex pads. At one time there used to be only one or two ads between programmes now there are sometimes ten. I try record the programmes then I can fast forward when watching. Hour programmes are cut to forty minutes or less.

I remember when the AIDS epidemic was all in the news and it was advertising safe sex using condoms. At the time Aids was predominantly killing homosexual men but to try and get across about safe sex they used women in the advert. Women were shown looking and behaving normal in a bar and the slogan was does she look like she has HIV to you? Do you practice safe sex? The advertising didn’t want to use men as it was deemed offensive and would create discrimination. Until women all complain and not buy these products things will not change. My grandson thinks ladies wet themselves and smell down there! Ebay advertised personal products saying to remove the disgusting smells!?

Ginny42 Sun 19-Apr-20 14:48:18

I can't stand the British Gas ad. Do we have to see someone sitting on the loo doing a pregnancy test? What's that got to do with the gas going off? All the incontinence ads as already highlighted for the same reasons, the one with June's father with a glut of parsnips and anything with Alan Titchmarsh in.

nannafizz Sun 19-Apr-20 14:24:11

I do wonder why women get targeted the most for the ‘embarrassing’ adverts ! What about the men’s little problems- don’t any of them have bladder leaks??

Artdecogran Sun 19-Apr-20 14:16:42

What about that ad for vaginosis. I particularly like the subtle inflated balloons hanging above her head. You know the puffy bright red shiny balloons meant to look like the parts that suffer the smelly infection. (Not). I mean do these people go out and get drunk/high at lunchtime to come up with these cringing adverts. Mind you I suppose you’d have to be under the influence in order to have to make up adverts for some of these products any way.

Willow10 Sun 19-Apr-20 14:09:03

I'm another one that mutes the sound when adverts are on. The only ones that always make me laugh are for Haribo. I find most others patronising, irritating and/or crude and over descriptive. The new Tampax one literally made me cringe when it came on whilst watching tv with my son. And why do so many ads supposedly aimed at adults have to use silly cartoony gimmicks more suited to children's programs ? I hope there are some ad makers out there reading these posts!

arosebyanyothername Sun 19-Apr-20 13:23:40

We watch Sky News in the morning and every other advert seems to be from companies enticing us to buy gold coins!!

The best one IMO at the moment is this NatWest one

Damdee, its Balhsens. I found that ad really annoying initially, but just lately it is making me laugh. Strange.?

Damdee Sun 19-Apr-20 13:09:17

They are not precisely annoying but I cannot watch ads that plead for money and show how children, bears, dogs, donkeys etc are in desperate need. You can't help everyone!

As well as the little girl with the £1 coin ad already mentioned, I also love the 'It's a little bit fancy' biscuit ad with the long fingers growing - the way they speak always makes me laugh, doesn't matter how many times I see it! Can't remember the name of the biscuits though!

CraftyGranny Sun 19-Apr-20 13:07:11

That Cillit Bang advert with that bl***y annoying man Ughh

ayokunmi1 Sun 19-Apr-20 13:02:18

Oh my favourite the Guinness adverts.
The tick tock ..powerful.

Theresamb Sun 19-Apr-20 12:51:39

That’s from the Bing children’s tv show isn’t it

Witzend Sun 19-Apr-20 12:49:54

Not usually TV ones, more often in print or on the internet, largely aimed at the over 60s, which depict a woman with grey or silver hair but whose face actually looks no more than about 42 and a half.
