Annoying adverts

Quick afternoon question, what is the most annoying advert you've ever seen?

For me it's the CompareTheMarket adverts. Can't stand those meerkats.

I hate the one where a woman is bemoaning the fact that after having her baby, she pees herself - but because of these wonderful black pants, she doesn’t mind one bit! Try some pelvis floor exercises - they might help you get back to your former self! There was another advert where several women were talking about peeing themselves - all trying to convince you it is “the norm” for the majority of women. I find these ads both embarrassing and degrading - I notice they don’t advertise Tena Men pads............ and as for that idiot leaping around just because he took a pill and managed to “perform” - I can’t listen to that song now without thinking of that advert! I liked the one where the old chap dropped his “blue pill” down the sink and somehow it ended up in the car’s engine!! So funny.

Not a fan of any ads, but I do like the ones with Harry Redknapp "'ear Sarn 'ave ya seen my bow tie. and Sarn 'addock or cod? etc.

Agree with all these posts about all these cringeworthy ads. Tbey are pathetic and creepy and should be banned !

At the moment it's the Bird's Eye one getting in on the current situation. Like a few fish fingers and frozen peas are going to be the difference between getting through this pandemic or notangry.

Hate that American ee guy, ever since doing a survey years ago about the so called proposed benefits about smart phones, the whole idea of having all my movements tracked has filled me with horror, so I've never had a smart phone. Now it seems we all may have to have tracking apps if we want to leave the house again.

I agree with the posts regarding bingo and gambling. I've written to itv in disgust at these. This advertising has been increasing at quite a pace and is very worrying. Tobacco advertising was banned when it was proved to be unhealthy. Isn't it time gaming was seen for what it is: it preys on vulnerable people and ruins families.

Lots of irritating ones but for me the worst is the Aviva one where the woman is asking about the door lock

Quizzer Sun 19-Apr-20 10:13:29

Perf with Surf is definitely the most irritating at the moment. I get really annoyed by the 'pretty' incontinence underwear. It is NOT normal to suffer from this after childbirth. The latest Tampax ad telling you exactly how to insert the tampon seems a bit too much information. I can imagine some weird guys watching this one over and over again!!

The ones that advertise credit cards for people with bad credit with horrendous interest rates, its wrong that they are trying to get people who have financial difficulties to get into more debt and make it sound like a good idea.

Lucky me. all the TV I watch is stored on my Virgin "box" so I can whizz happily through the ads. Don't think I miss much!

To turn the topic on its head, which old ads do you remember most happily-early ones like Murray mints, don't forget the TV times, Esso blue (boom boom boom boom) or later ones. of which my favourite was Arkwright's dog for John Smiths ale?

Hetty58 Sun 19-Apr-20 09:54:10

There's a channel (can't remember which, channel 4 or 5 maybe) that I might want to watch in the afternoon - until the adverts come on.

They are 'targeted' for the average viewer, who, it seems, has a leaky bladder, vaginal dryness, can't get up stairs or into a bath, frets about her family paying for her funeral - yet still wants to go on a cruise!

These comments about adverts has cheered me up no end. Thanks ladies! ?

I get a regular ad. on my iPad game, for some sort of gin. Philip Schofield is the presenter and it makes my skin crawl the way he simpers at the camera. I’ve complained to the manufacturers and I haven’t seen it for a while. Perhaps that’s the answer - complain. Mind you, they sometimes say ‘if you can remember the ad it’s doing its job’!

Jamtowngirl Sun 19-Apr-20 09:52:01

I am the shame as Glorybee we hit the mute button. My husband watches the discovery channel and the adverts on there last so long and they last so long there is time to make a cup of tea.

Nannyme Sun 19-Apr-20 09:51:28

Plaintive !,

Nannyme Sun 19-Apr-20 09:49:54

The Rightmove one where wifey keeps saying Graham in a plaintiff voice, poor devil totally at her beck and call, even when they move.

polnan Sun 19-Apr-20 09:48:30

very few of the adverts, imo, should not be removed/banned

the chairs that help you to get up and down,, such young looking and able bodied people showing them!! oh my!

all adverts, well very few are any good..

and the cost.... who pays for this rubbish!! rhetorical question, we all know who pays

ecci53 Sun 19-Apr-20 09:46:06

All of them but 2 things in particular: one is the money supermarket ads with the man in high heels, and also all the ads that reference old films, for example, I saw one the other day that was clearly aimed at young people but referenced the film Shaft which few of them would know. I fond I remember the annoying bits but rarely remember what the product being advertised is. The money supermarket one is an exception and I would never use them as I hate their ads so much.

Scottiebear Sun 19-Apr-20 09:44:49

The one with the sanitary pad sitting on a womans hand. It is apparently very thin. It may be thin, but they fail to mention it looks as long as a surf board.

Glorybee Sun 19-Apr-20 09:41:46

We don’t tend to see many ads, or rather hear them, as they get muted. There was one on recently which was quite red, so maybe for Vodafone, which a seal in someone’s living room. Why? (a rhetorical question, I’m not really interested!).

Esmerelda Sun 19-Apr-20 09:41:23

Yes NotTooOld, I forgot that ridiculous toothpaste ad ... well, any toothpaste ad really. And Chardy is right! Don't these companies realise they are paying for negative advertising that is just antagonizing their supposed target audience?

Scottiebear Sun 19-Apr-20 09:40:56

The bingo ones are appalling.

Witzend Sun 19-Apr-20 09:40:52

Most of them, TBH, which is why we mostly watch on catch up and zoom through them.
Worst of all IMO are the umpteen equity release/funeral plan ones - whoever makes them seems to think the target market has a mental age of about 8, or else is three-quarters senile already.

Shropshirelass Sun 19-Apr-20 09:39:21

All the online bingo and associates games. Really sensible to put these on when people are stuck at home, getting 80% of their wages and boredom setting in. Arrgghh!
