I have, this afternoon, eaten a whole punnet of strawberries without washing them.
Will I soon be a statistic? Who knows.
Just in case...in case...in........????

I've eaten half that amount--scalded with boiling water from the kettle, and with ice-cream.grin

Gabriella
I ( or OH ) who does all the food shopping and cooking have never washed a food article ever, except for meat.

callgirl1 Sun 19-Apr-20 19:00:46

I only wash vegetables, at the time of preparation.

GabriellaG54 good for you!

I read a post about a GN member washing a cauliflower in soapy watershock

What the heck is that about? Surely it will be boiled before eating? confused

I could only hold the strawb under running water anyway which wouldn't do anything. You certainly couldn't rub it to remove a fruit picker's 'fingerprints' as the flesh would be spoiled. I'll take my chances.

I don't wash fruit or veg.

BlueSky Sun 19-Apr-20 19:28:44

I've always washed fruit and veg, well rinsed in cold water, not because of this virus. Now I also rinse in hot water but definitely no soap! Fruit will be peeled and veg cooked. I've never rinsed tins or wiped packages but now I'm doing it.

Strawberries! Yum!

I suppose it’s possible that a pip might get stuck in your appendix*Gabriella54*, and grow into a strawberry plant in your innards but in general I think that’s unlikely. grin

GabriellaG54 Sun 19-Apr-20 20:02:14

I'll remember that nugget of info SueDonim and if that happens I'll slice my belly open and make sure you have first dibs.
It make sense of being 'home groan' ??

Callistemon Sun 19-Apr-20 20:28:19

I have pesky little wild strawberries growing all over the garden, SueDonim so I reckon it's possible.

Let us know what the first signs are of strawberry plants growing in your innards Gabriella grin

GabriellaG54 Sun 19-Apr-20 20:55:33

They might protrude out of my niople area. That'd be interesting... summat to nibble on. ??

GabriellaG54 Sun 19-Apr-20 20:56:28

* ? nipple not niople

SueDonim Sun 19-Apr-20 22:43:52

I’m thinking runners might sprout from your tummy button. Then we can each have a strawberry plant. The variety will of course be called Gabriella. grin

JenniferEccles Sun 19-Apr-20 22:50:25

There was talk on here a week or so ago about someone (maybe more than one person actually) who washes fruit and vegetables in warm soapy water !!
I couldn’t believe what I was reading but I am sure they were serious!

JenniferEccles Sun 19-Apr-20 22:53:38

You had better make sure you post on tomorrow’s Good Morning thread Gabriella or folk on here will be very worried about you!!

Callistemon Sun 19-Apr-20 23:01:44

More likely through your belly button as SueDonim says!

Careful where the runners go though.

GabriellaG54 Mon 20-Apr-20 09:58:17

Well, I lasted through the night phew!
Don't fancy my belly button being used as an escape route. ??
