How often do you spill things

So as I've gotten older my grip strength has weakened somewhat. This combined with my already poor hand eye coordination makes life rather interesting. Every so often I knock drinks over or they slip from my hand and go all over me. Waters okay, hot tea not so fun. Just this morning I knocked my orange juice all over the kitchen table whilst trying to take my tablets. I've had tests done about my grip to make sure it's nothing serious. But results came back fine, I was told it's just an age thing.

I was just wondering if anyone else has incidents likes this. It would be nice to know I'm not alone.

I started dropping things before I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel, it's improved since I had surgery for it.

I've always been clumsy but it has got worse as I've got older. Drives me crazy at times and makes me so angry when I spill things!

Hello Babypink, yes losing grip is an age thing I'm sorry to say! I don't do too badly but I drop things all the time! Clothes pegs are a nightmare as my fine motor skills are comprised by arthritis. I also have to take care with spatial awareness otherwise I too knock things over. Don't be too worried, if indeed you are, it happens to a lot of us!

Grips OK but since carpal tunnel op, the tips of the first three fingers on my right hand have become numb which means I cannot feel things I am holding. It also explains my erraric typing as I cannot feel hoe much pressure I am putting on keys.

I am also mildly dyspraxic, so dropping things, misjudging where they are and being generally cack-handed is a way of life!

I’m doing exercises to alleviate that but do feel my grip has weakened- fingertip press-ups and grip-and-pull are definitely working. Use it or lose it etc.

Not often but too often for my liking. Usually when carrying a hot drink up to bed and not switching the landing lights on.
Although the carpets are cream I can blot with tissue (first putting mug down safely) and spraying a blob of kitchen or bathroom cleaner on the drips, then gently rubbing in a circular motion with an impregnated kitchen wipe. This has always worked excellently as I make a larger circle than the original drip, so as to stop a tide mark, IYSWIM. ?

My granddaughter saw Mum in her care home. She was most impressed that Mum had a 'sippy cup' - just like hers!

I just spilt my wine

Spilling things is a daily occurrence. I have always been clumsy.

My mum used to have tremors related to her medication, bless. She died 2y ago at the age of 87y. I miss her very much.

We used to enjoy a week together every year in Ibiza.

Our last holiday together, I noticed she would ask the hotel staff to bring her a cup of tea but in a beaker (she never called it a mug for some reason). That way, she explained to me, there was a couple of inches without fluid at the top so when she got the ‘shakes’ she didn’t spill.

Anyway - my memory from that last holiday is watching her bring 2 large glasses of wine over from the bar to our table, which were filled to the brim! I pointed this out to her? She said ‘it depends what I’m drinking!’.
❤️

Urmstongram, what a lovely story and how lovely that the two of you have had some great holidays together. She may not be here, but those memories of her will stay forever.

What a darling Urmstongran- hope you’re carrying on the tradition ?

Urmstongran Sun 19-Apr-20 20:47:20

?
We had great times.
I was very lucky to have her in my life for as long as I did wasn’t I?

She made me giggle.
We pooled our money for the week for our ‘holiday spends’. A kitty.
She used to ask me ‘does the cat need feeding?’.

Heck! Only just got that... kitty and feeding...gawd. ?
Your mum sounds as if she was on the ball with a great sense of humour.
