ROAST POTATOES! On a TUESDAY!!!

Thanks Tangerine but it was only partly my weak effort.
It was plagiarized from an old song titled "You're Just In Love' and meant to be sung to the tune of it.
You may be too young to have heard it but it's on YouTube by various singers and a karaoke version.

Too late, cooked, eaten and washed up!

Mr P dished up, as he always does (daft rule, I cook, sit down and have my dinner served to me) and then washed up.

I'd happily eat mash with cauliflower cheese and liver and bacon. I love them and don't care about what goes with what!

You don't need to peel them just cut the eyes off.

Just boil them then saute them ,He will never know the difference

I haven't tried them yet.

They might be in for a long spell in the freezer.

Definitely not cauliflower cheese with a gravy dinner, its a dish served on its own.

Aunt Bessie got her frozen mash spot on but you’re right phoenix, she needs to go back to roastie school - bleurgh

Sorry, we have tried Aunt Bessies roast potatoes, and as far as we are concerned, she can keep them!

Have on occasions bought ready prepped fresh ones (Morrisons) and they were ok.

I hate roasties. Not the objects, but the term. It’s so twee, yet sometimes I find myself using that very word. I am full of self-loathing when I realise what I’ve said.

phoenix, At the beginning of Lockdown I made sure I had a couple of bags of good old Auntie Bessie's finest just in case Mr M should have the audacity of asking for roasties on any other day but Sunday.

I think/hope he's forgotten all about them.

No. Roasts that aren't one Sunday must be either on Christmas day or Wednesday. It's the law. Have him arrested.

I watch far too many cookery programnes Urmstongran, that's my excuse. ??

I, for one, certainly do have cauliflower cheese as a side to roast dinners (although a veggie, I have in the past and do cook meat for visitors/family) and I've had it in the NSE&W of the UK.
Gravy is poured over certain components of the meal by the diner.
Yummy.

Mr P doesactually cook. In large quantities.

We hadn't been together very long when I came home and found every pan I owned full of chilli, bubbling away on the hob.

He had cooked 2.5lbs of mince, 3 cans of tomatoes, 3 cans of kidney beans. I didn't have a freezer. The fridge in my little rented place didn't even have an ice box/freezer compartment!

Shame it wasn't Harvest Festival time, we could have made a considerable contribution to a harvest supper!

Two suggestions Phoenix
1. Hasselback potatoes, small potatoes sliced downward on a wooden spoon so the cuts don’t slice up the potato. I roll them in a little oil and roast at around 180 degrees for around 40 minutes. Looks fancy, no peeling, no parboiling faff.
2.Tell him if the lid isn’t down when flushed then viruses can come roaring out in the droplets and get you. It’s taken me 50 years, but this convinced Mr P to finally put the lid down. Silver lining imho.?

We have cauliflower and cheese sauce as a vegetable with roast dinners phoenix it’s one of my favourite non negotiable Sunday must haves!

Have you considered going on strike?

Or teaching Mr. Phoenix to cook?

If you decide on the latter, buy a set of cheap pans and knives before starting the cookery classes.

I would say pop to the shops and get frozen roasties, which I discovered just a few months ago, and are actually quite nice!, but I think popping to the shops is a thing of the past at the moment. Your dinner sounds very yumptious, he should be grateful or cook something himself. Of course, that could be far worse, but you know him best?

Mr P has been known to do an amazing cauliflower cheese, with onions, bacon and mushrooms added, meal in itself, def not a side dish. Although a few chips with it don't go amiss!

I love cauliflower cheese and mash but DH won't countenance either....
